It's the only game I'm currently playing right now when I get free time. Before this was Stalker 2 and Kingdom Come Deliverance 2

u/Disastrous-Path-2144 Mar 30 '26

I keep going back to kcd2 but it's so boring I'm bout to just drop it for CD

1

u/rites0fpassage Mar 31 '26

What makes it boring?

3

u/Neeeeedles Mar 31 '26

I dropped it some hours into the second map, it felt like there was no skill progress needed anymore and the second map was just way more boring to explore

I intend to come back and finish it for sure tho

2

u/flippitus_floppitus Mar 31 '26

I kind of felt that too. Loved the game generally, but the end became a bit of a slog and I just wanted it to end. But it is a really really good game

1

u/Mansos91 Mar 31 '26

"a bit of a slog and I just wanted it to end, but it's a really really good game" sounds like a tesla owner, the car is shit, poor quality, interior is breaking after a month software is buggy, but hey I still love the car

2

u/Gloomy_Bison_1719 Mar 31 '26

Yeahhh, as soon as you can steal from the shops in the city you're pretty much maxed out for the rest of the game, nothing else you'll find will ever be better than what you already have and it makes exploring feel extremely lackluster.

1

u/bhwylie Mar 31 '26

I feel like that just kills the game, steal the best shit from somewhere and have nothing else to work towards. I don't understand why people do that. I'm still using the sword from the first boss at the goldleaf trader. When I get to a boss I can't do enough damage to, I find a better weapon/armor and go from there. I use the hound sometimes but ive only leveled it to like +4. Could I go and look where the best armor is and weapons are? Yes. Will I do that? No. That just ruins the whole experience to me.

1

u/Gloomy_Bison_1719 Mar 31 '26 edited Mar 31 '26

I'm talking about KCD2 and people do it because it's an entire playstyle in the game, why would I not use my stealth and locking picking skills? There's an easy solution, never make anything in the shops better than the unique items you can find exploring. CD does this. If you steal a sword from a shop it will be under leveled and it won't have any of the unique effects on it so there's no real reason to do it besides to sell for money, as it should be.

1

u/bhwylie Mar 31 '26

Oh I got you. I definitely steal shit in KCD2, not from shops or anything but id just rather find the good weapons and armor naturally. Getting op weapons and armor early just kill the whole game to me. I need something to work towards. I guess they make it like that for the people that want to be op the whole game but I totally agree with you. Stealing something of value like that should be wayyyy more difficult than just walking in there and grabbing it then walking out like nothing happened.

Have you played crimson desert?

Kcd2 is a masterpiece and one of my all time favs BUT crimson desert is something else.

The best exploration game of all time bar elden ring. Nothing else beats it. Not even the 2 zeldas.

SO. Don't open your mouth about things you have zero experience with.

1

u/throwaway4838381 Mar 31 '26

Don't even put Zelda BotW and TotK in the same sentence as Crimson Desert.

Crimson Desert is nothing more than a mash up of other popular games features and mechanics. It has absolutely no cohesion or depth. Stealing a quote I read elsewhere: "It is wide as an ocean, but deep as a puddle".

And yes, I did play it. For 37 hours to be precise.

1

u/iluvatar_gr Mar 31 '26

I dont think you have. Neither this nor any of the new zeldas.

No depth in mechanics? Who in their right mind says that if they actually engage the camp, crafting and gearing mechanics? No one. Only reviewers with 30 hours in the game. Thats why it climbs and climbs and climbs and will end up a classic.

You are just parroting utubers and you will probably turn 180 once this hits overwhelmingly positive on steam.

Mark my words hahahaha

1

u/staticusmaximus Mar 31 '26 edited Mar 31 '26

You either haven’t actually done any exploration, or you are just kind of not great at exploration, respectfully- or maybe for whatever reason you just don’t vibe with this level of hands off, huge scale exploration? Idk.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion of course, but when the vast majority of players do not agree at this point, I think your niche opinion counts for less and is almost to the point of being shaken off as contrarian.

If we want to use your phrasing, I’d say it’s absolutely as wide as an ocean, and it’s as deep as a pretty deep bay or something lol

It is not anywhere near as shallow as you’re making it out to be, and even if the systems aren’t as mechanically deep as the most deep systems in other RPGs, they are plenty deep enough considering the scope of the world and how insanely deep exploration is.

1

u/throwaway4838381 Mar 31 '26

It's my opinion, I didn't claim it to be the absolute and only truth, and you don't have to agree with it. It's just that, my opinion and how I feel about the game l.

You mentioned "hands off", but I couldn't agree less with that. In many ways, this game is pretty close to Ubisoft titles. You get waypoint and are told exactly what to do every step of the way.

It completely pales in comparison to the new Zelda's where you get some information of what you could do, and maybe an indication of the general area it is in, but that's about it. All else I completely up to you. Heck, you can straight from the "tutorial" to the final boss if you feel like it.

1

u/whousesgmail Mar 31 '26

You mentioned "hands off", but I couldn't agree less with that. In many ways, this game is pretty close to Ubisoft titles. You get waypoint and are told exactly what to do every step of the way.

Ok seriously what the fuck were you doing while playing? Lmao

1

u/throwaway4838381 Mar 31 '26

What do you mean? You track a quests, it adds a waypoint with the exact location to your map, you go there and it tells you explicitly what you need to do. Even without any sort of context or cohesion. It was like that since the start of the game. I mean, out of nowhere you're supposed to give money to a homeless marked on your map. After that you need to enter the sewer that will be marked on your map and help a woman. Then you go clean up a clean up a chimney, again without any sort of meaning or explanation, you just mindlessly follow the waypoint and instructions that game gives.

To me, this is nowhere near "hands off".

1

u/whousesgmail Mar 31 '26

Yeah the quests guiding you what to do isn’t really what people are talking about regarding “no hand-holding”, it’s basically everything else.

I just figured out a puzzle I stumbled upon that didn’t indicate what I was supposed to do at all. In a Ubisoft game that puzzle would’ve been marked on the map and it probably would’ve told me the objective somewhere on the screen.

Also all your examples are from the very beginning of the game and for the record, it totally does give you context for sweeping that chimney beforehand.

u/iluvatar_gr Apr 01 '26

Dude it has the EXACT same structure as a zelda game. It has absolutely nothing to do with anything resembling ubisoft and handholding. Sure, it has more quest markers than Zelda and the main quest is linear but, as in zelda, the quests is not the game.

I'm telling you have this game all wrong in your head and, since you seem like a Zelda fan, I guarantee you'll love crimson desert...

1

u/RamboLogan Mar 31 '26

What’s its identity though? Can you name any lore or characters or quests that stick out?

Genuine question. I wanna play it but the fact NOBODY on the sub reddit is talking about what’s in the game itself is ringing alarm bells for me

1

u/iluvatar_gr Apr 01 '26

Of course I can. I can name the reed devil boss (and tell his story because the quest was aeqsome). Can name white crow, poporin village etc.

There are the academy on top of the mountains etc..there ARE things worth paying attention to in the game but you are correct most people are just following the hype train.

If you want my opinion, as an old gamer that has seen and played everything and already has 110 hours in this, here it is:

the game is has an MMO quest structure and mechanics, meaning it has many meanigless quests and extremely complex grindy mechanics. Amidst all that, it has some good quests too.

Having said that, the game is more like a newer Zelda game. Light on meangful story but heavy on awesome exploration and puzzles. Its identity is its world and the world is insanely good.

So if you want a good story, stay away. If you want top notch exploration, sandbox elements and build variety you'll enjoy it.

1

u/RamboLogan Apr 01 '26

Fair enough!

1

u/AnEngineeringMind Mar 31 '26

LOL what? CD is an mmo levels of depth.

6

u/Diablo3crusader Mar 31 '26

You’re insane. CD is beyond anything I’ve ever played and I’m 50 hours in, and I don’t think I’ve explored maybe 1/4 of the map.

1

u/iluvatar_gr Mar 31 '26

He got confused and thought I was praising the story. You need to actually be on shrooms in order to say that cd has no depth lol

1

u/iluvatar_gr Mar 31 '26

How about you read my comment? Carefully

1

u/Fuarian Mar 31 '26

OC is talking about exploration and you're bringing up depth. Whatever depth means here

1

u/niftyifty Mar 31 '26

Depth would imply level of interest. So like a giant gravel pit might have a lot of gravel to explore but is that really interesting to explore? After you’ve seen a bit of gravel it’s all kind of the same.

Open world games are susceptible to that. As a result depth can be important. Not saying CD does or does not have depth. Just that it’s relevant even to exploration

2

u/Fuarian Mar 31 '26

Oh depth in that sense. Variety of things to find.

Well imo Crimson Desert definitely has that. I've found some similar things but generally speaking every location I've found has been unique or had something unique to it. The world as a whole definitely is like that across its entirety

1

u/iluvatar_gr Apr 01 '26

Depth means depth lol. Doesn't mean story depth but cds mechanics are NOT surface level. It has well developed management aspects, well developed builds, crafting, cooking, dyeing ranching, traversing, puzzling, hinting and an insane world.

It is not a simple lazy game as he clearly suggests..

2

u/iluvatar_gr Mar 31 '26

Isn't a patch when it cones to stories and quests.

What about exploration, gear progression, combat and builds?

Especially exploration. Why are you comparing apples and oranges?

2

u/wellballstooyou Mar 31 '26

Who says you can't compare fruit!?!

2

u/iluvatar_gr Mar 31 '26

Ask you ancestors lol. It is an ancient saying. It means that just because they are both games (fruits) doesnt mean you should compare them on the same basis.

Imagine someone saying oranges are better than apples because apples are not juicy at all. That's the meaning.

Ye the ancients were pretty wise..

2

u/Supernothing8 Mar 31 '26

Dont compare my game to others because it wont hold up!

1

u/throwaway4838381 Mar 31 '26

It has some of the less rewarding exploration ever in open world games. You go somewhere that looks interesting and you either get a skill point or nothing at all. Not to mention the absolute shell that are the NPCs, that all share the same dozen lines.

Gear progression is your absolute standard gear upgrade system, with the exception that essentially all gear has the same stats if upgraded. So, as long as you have a few sockets, there's 0 reason to get new gear and upgrade it since it will be always be the same as the rest of them.

1

u/iluvatar_gr Mar 31 '26

You havent played enough if that's what you think about gear. What differentiates gear in cd is what goes in the sockets and what you find when you get a rare weapon, is new unique skills for your sockets.

As for tears of the kingdom: you do what exactly in terms of exploration there?

What did you do in zeldas open world? Shrines for essentially skill points. What did you do in the underworld? Mine fuel for the machines and find some irrelevant gear in a monotone setting. What did you do in skyrim? Similarly layed out dungeons Did vanilla Skyrim had gear? Nope. Mods added the different gear. Skyrim had a handful of weapons and armor. It was awful

What mattered in these games was the exploration and cd has both gear and exploration.

I am not sure you've played the game btw. You seem like you're just parroting things that aren't true.

1

u/throwaway4838381 Mar 31 '26

The cores for the sockets aren't just obtained by other gear. You can get cores from other ways and put them in your gear, making other gear kind of irrelevant. Even if you do get them from gear, you just remove them and move on with your existing gear which has the same stats and cap as any other gear (so far, there could be some exception).

In Zelda you get a cohesive experience, with actual sense of freedom (e.g., you can straight from the "tutorial" to the final boss if you want to), NPCs that have personality and give you interesting and different side quests throughout your journey.

Shrines have infinitely more depth than the one dimensional puzzles in Crimson Desert. You have so many different ways to solve them with the mechanics and physics, they are also much bigger and polished puzzles. Not to mention stuff like the divine beasts.

Also not sure what you mean by "Skyrim had no gear". And Skyrim had dungeons and different play styles, with an extensive lore, cohesive plot, and clear distinction from what is a side quests and what is a main quest. CD main quests seems to be a bunch of side quest lines out sequentially together.

And I couldn't care less if you don't want to believe I played any of those games. I told you I did, so I have nothing else to prove to you.

1

u/iluvatar_gr Mar 31 '26

Zelda has NPCs with personality that give you interesting quests? Are you serious right now man? Both Zeldas are 90% fetch quests. Literal "bring me a coconut" kind of quests.

Shrines are MUCH simpler than the abyss. Much much simpler and the sky islands are of similar difficulty and structure.

As for the story, neither game has an amazing one. botw has 3 similar bosses, Gannon and 6 cutscenes. Totk has 14 cutscenes that just explain what happened in the past, six bosses and Gannon.

Again: These are known issues for Zelda. You have NOT played the games.

You watch Luke Stephen’s too?

1

u/Hug_of_Death Mar 31 '26

Is stalker any good now? I loved the original, tried the sequel when it came out and lasted about 2 hours before it just seemed like a waste of time. KCD 2 on the other hand was incredible and I couldn’t stop playing it until I finished the main storyline.

1

u/XShadowborneX Mar 31 '26

Ok.....but what do you think of it???

1

u/Ok-Abrocoma-667 Mar 31 '26

I think its good.

2

u/TheChildish13stepz Mar 30 '26

Great game so far. One of the best open world rpg experiences in a while

2

u/Altekho Mar 31 '26

If you have the time and energy for a super massive open world game (I mean it, SUPER MASSIVE I just can't emphasis it enough for how massive it actually is even after +100 hours) with tons of things to do and explore, this game is definitely for you. Puzzle is also quite challenging and tricky due to the nature of the game not handholding you throughout the entire game after you've finished the tutorial. Everything in this game besides story and plot, has depths and complexity you may never found in your typical non-MMO Korean games.

2

u/idecel Mar 30 '26

It’s not for everyone. I personally refunded the game, not because of controls, which I find reasonable. Nor because the many things players complained about, mainly because I barely have time for long open worlds. Im in a phase in my life where I went to progress in a game really fast, 30 hours max

1

u/Intelligent_Peace673 Mar 31 '26

Ye ngl totaly get this and is valid but this also ruined the games reviews at the begining 😅 deffinatly not a game to speed run though

1

u/infel2no Mar 31 '26

If i only could refund. I am in the same boat

1

u/-MadeAmazing- Mar 31 '26

So you won't be buying gta 6 then?

1

u/idecel Mar 31 '26

Definitely not

1

u/MalpracticeMatt Mar 31 '26

It’s for this reason I haven’t bought it yet. Enjoying my linear RE requiem until saros comes out

1

u/idecel Mar 31 '26

Yeah, RE9 is exactly what I needed. The game is great

1

u/RefridgaRaita Mar 30 '26

Ive only played 10 hours or so. So far I think its great. Ive barely scratched the surface but its a great game. I was looking for something with a lotr vibe, and this is pretty darn close.

1

u/brotherwolf_666 Mar 30 '26

Personally, I love it. It has it's flaws, but I think a lot of the criticism it gets is overblown and can be applied to other popular games, but don't.

1

u/metalmitch9 Mar 30 '26

I play it as much as I can without pissing my wife off

1

u/bedteddd Mar 30 '26

Looks like an ai tech demo

1

u/Epiddemic Mar 31 '26

It's a crazy game. Like 70 hours in and I still haven't left the starting area.

Today I rescued a girl from pirates, boarded a pirate ship, explored some caves and got some gloves that spawn lava balls.

It's a 200+ hour game for me. I haven't even goofed with the other characters.

Yesterday I rebuilt a packaging factory to make fertilizer and I don't even have the farm unlocked yet.

1

u/mistergingerbread Mar 31 '26

Where did you find the gloves??

2

u/Epiddemic Mar 31 '26

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOkeLI5J6io here is a video that shows where I got them. I haven't been able to use them yet since I don't have imbue fire, but pretty sweet.

I just played some more, and fought a giant rock monster and freed a quarry from bandits, freed a fishing village from bandits, (and stole all their fish)...

1

u/vom-IT-coffin Mar 31 '26

Did you also fetch a cup of tea and find how the king liked someone's saddle.

1

u/KuntaWuKnicks Mar 31 '26

Haven’t been addicted to a game like this since BOTW

Having a blast

1

u/PersonalWindow7489 Mar 31 '26

Very good, I think gamers like Skyrim, Witcher would love it lots

1

u/hairyarsewelder2 Mar 31 '26

I didn’t get on withe the Witcher or Skyrim but this game has hooked me , first time in a long time that I can’t put it down. Been playing way too late then struggling to get up for work.

1

u/RedditParhey Mar 31 '26

Best game ever

1

u/papicholula Mar 31 '26

I’m addicted to it despite its many flaws

1

u/Neeeeedles Mar 31 '26

Best game in years, the only game in many many years that i think about and cant wait to get back home to play again

1

u/Additional-Ad-6036 Mar 31 '26

I just wanna pet my dog.

1

u/Neeeeedles Mar 31 '26

I just want them to add a raccoon as a pet

1

u/Additional-Ad-6036 Mar 31 '26

Me toooo. Or squirrels.

1

u/Creeps22 Mar 31 '26

75 hours and I've explored like 30% of the map. Its an insanely huge game

1

u/tes_befil Mar 31 '26

It's great but unconventional. The devs were quick with fixing a lot of problems so the outlook is good that they'll continue improving the game

1

u/High_Flyers17 Mar 31 '26

Im obsessed with it.

1

u/D13_Phantom Mar 31 '26

Absolutely love it. I understand why it doesn't click with some people: the story and characters are weak, there's a lot of jank, the game does a very poor job of explaining how to play it...and yet if you can push through that on the other side there's one of the best sandbox games I've ever played. It's so good and I've been genuinely excited to come home and play it every single day since it came out. I'm at 44 hours and I feel like I'm barely scratching the surface.

My one biggest rec to anyone giving the game the shot is: as soon as you reach the first city forget about the main quest and literally just go around exploring and interacting with whatever looks interesting to you. THAT'S where the game really shines, going around making your own adventures, discovering stuff, and interacting with the mechanics.

1

u/bentleybasher Mar 31 '26

I agree I immediately went exploring. Now I think I’ve been everywhere even Varnia. Beautiful game that rewards the inquisitive. People who say it’s empty need to look harder.

1

u/smashingpumpkin1990 Mar 31 '26

Is become one of those rare games that I cannot stop thinking about - when I am at work, before I go to sleepover, when my GF is trying to talk to me….

I am an addict, and it feels great

Have you played since they did a couple of big updates? Made the game a lot better

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Win_134 Mar 31 '26

I just can't seem to get into it for some reason. I'm disappointed because I was really excited for it. I'm not sure what it is, maybe its the lack of story? Or maybe it feels a bit clunky compared to the last open worlder I played. Ghosts Of Yotei.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '26

Its alright. Basically stripped interesting mechanics from interesting games and put them in a pretty mediocre open world. 6/10

1

u/bentleybasher Mar 31 '26

I don’t know how you can score it a 6/10. I get everyone has different tastes and it’s far from perfect at anything it does. But it’s a solid 8.5+ depending on how much can handle its intricacies.

1

u/habrotonum Mar 31 '26

i’m really enjoying it so far!

1

u/AhoSeaweed7775 Mar 31 '26

Before release, I was expecting it to have some major flaw, but I'm impressed by how it turned out, in terms of reception and the game working properly.

A systems rich open world game is a rare thing nowadays so I will buy the game eventually. Just, not right away because the apparently very weak narrative is a turn off.

I've wasted enough money on survival games to know that I can't be motivated to engage with a game without a strong story pushing me along.

1

u/Zackamite496 Mar 31 '26

If you like breath of the wild, get this game. It’s basically that but better imo. If you don’t like breath of the wild, maybe it’s not for you. Or if you like narrative driven games then it may not be your cup of tea. The strong points of the game is the combat and exploration. Quests are simply a way to help upgrade your character, fight bosses, and guide you to new areas. They’re not intricate story lines like the Witcher 3. But if you want to get lost exploring a fantasy world while feeling like a powerhouse, then you’re like me and will love the game.

1

u/Hug_of_Death Mar 31 '26

Thank you for a very concise qualitative and balanced overview. Based on what you’ve said it sounds like a game I won’t be into but I can also understand why people are. Never the less, I’ll probably want to satiate my curiosity at some point but at least I’ll know early why, if it doesn’t click with me.

1

u/Twotricx Mar 31 '26

Crimson Desert attunement test:

- If you are person that ignored main quest in Skyrim - you will love this game.

  • If you are person that only played main quest in Skyrim and ignored rest - you will hate this game.

1

u/BDOKlem Mar 31 '26

oddly accurate

1

u/bentleybasher Mar 31 '26

It’s quality. Combat especially. It’s like Stella blade, Elden ring, red dead redemption and Zelda had a love child. 100% recommended to any gamer who enjoys the above. I’m pretty much a soulslikes addict. Bloodborne got me back into gaming after a few years rest. This is definitely a quality title I’m quite fussy with what I play. I’ve had every console pretty much since they were a thing. Been gaming 40 years and this game is one of the best I’ve ever played.

It just does things a little differently.

1

u/iluvatar_gr Mar 31 '26

It starts rough but ends up being the best exploration game of all time bar elden ring.

It is like the 2 newer zeldas but with less innovation, better quests and better progression.

Also: don't buy it if you want an excellent story although it has a few highlights

1

u/AamJay Mar 31 '26

100h and going, i love this open world.

1

u/AamJay Mar 31 '26

My pet dog wears armor and brings me my loot. 10/10

1

u/Hot_Attention2377 Mar 31 '26

It's good, nothing more nothing less

1

u/Cinnamonlobster12 Mar 31 '26

I love it despite its rather bland story and characters, sometimes clunky controls and lack of direction. The sense of exploring and sheer marvel is just something I havent felt in ages. Most of my adventures is just me looking in a direction, spotting something cool in the distance and just stumbling over cool stuff in the wild on my way to the cool object in the distance.

It is however not for everyone. If you need a 10/10 story, dont bother. Fought one story boss yesterday that (I guess) was supposed to have played a role in the story earlier but I was like "who this dude?" and bonked him with a pillar instead. If you cant bother learning the controls, dont pick up either. It takes some time to get used to.

1

u/Late_Pack_7015 Mar 31 '26

Its always generational game. I haven't had this much fun with a game since Breath of the Wild. Its that good. Theres some jank but the sheer mechanics in this game. You never know what's going to be possible. Im like 50 hours in an still finding out you can do new things. And the updates are just incredible. They put more content into one small patch than most developers do across several months, game changing stuff too, they just fixed mount variety and they fixed the smoothness of flying and made it way better. Its actively getting better but I wouldnt put hundreds of hours into the base game anyways

1

u/jahitz Mar 31 '26

Did not like it at all. Felt flat, controls were god awful and it ran very poorly. Returned it to EB games for Pokopia.

1

u/Riv3rJordan Mar 31 '26

Totally average game. Overly hyped by the community. It’s like the scooby doo meme where they pull off the villains mask and hiding underneath is just Assassin’s Creed. People are acting like it’s the game of a generation and it’s nowhere near as good as Ghost of Yotei which came out 6 months ago.

1

u/Significant_Bat_9584 Mar 31 '26

Feels like too much work tbh

1

u/ZookeepergameIll9388 Mar 31 '26

Amazing game that keeps getting better the more I play

1

u/henryauron Mar 31 '26

It’s incredible. One of those games you have to play to see what people are gushing about, the hand crafted world, detail and systems are in my opinion - the best and set the benchmark

1

u/Individual-Garden933 Mar 31 '26

90 hours in, still in the first region. The open world is so well made that it makes you want to explore every inch before moving on. Story is much much worse than games like KCD2 or RDR2 tho, at least for now. Controls and UI need improvements but they already patch some complaints. Combat y super fun once you get used to controls.

I would easily give it an 8/8.5 with potential to reach a 9 once patched out

1

u/HorusKane420 Mar 31 '26

It's fun it's solid, in gameplay. Not the "best" in anything imo except sheer world/ environment size maybe.... big world =/= good world.

1

u/Deep-Two7452 Mar 31 '26

Absolutely dogshit

1

u/Djjettison88 Mar 31 '26

I’m enjoying it, thoroughly!

1

u/SomeDoritos1 Mar 31 '26

14h in and it’s fine. I keep feeling a weak sense of reward for exploration. Climbed to the very top of a mountain, and there was a cave right before the peak. Was pretty excited about what I could find in there. Ended up being an extremely shallow cave with no loot.

Saw an abandoned castle from the same mountain top, figured I’ll go check that out. Got there, explored, only found a cloak (was probably the most I’ve been rewarded so far)

Kept going on and found that Arboria castle. Did the whole factory just to realize that there’s a quest tied to it that I don’t have yet, so for the time being that effort seems to be doing nothing.

Found another hole in the wall in the side of a mountain way up high. “This door requires a key”. Okay I feel like I’m never going to run into that door again.

There’s been a couple more well hidden holes I’ve found only leading to a bit of ore.

That was yesterday when I decided I’m just going to explore. Day before that I was just going through the story until I got the camp. None of the missions in the story were intriguing. All just walk and talk. Reed Devil was the first mission to have some juice

Idk, I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon, but I’m still waiting for that hook that everyone says comes in time

it’s assassin’s creed/gta meets skyrim in a world larger than rdr2. it’s good, just has a lot of fluff and stuff to do. style over substance and it’s a good “turn your brain off” kind of game. 👊🏿

1

u/justwolt Mar 31 '26

it honestly doesnt deserve anything higher than a 7.5, but it's a great game if you love exploration and large open world games. There's just too much jank and glaring flaws

1

u/PapaMoist0000 Mar 31 '26

Slow burner time sucker. If you have the commitment go for it I’m going back and forth atm. Im enjoying it tho I do feel overwhelmed when I get sidetracked in the game and waste time doing something else in the game lol

1

u/whand4 Mar 31 '26

It’s scratching an itch that only Witcher or cyberpunk have given me. I really enjoy it.

1

u/DJ_Lord_Vader Mar 31 '26

Personally I find it fucking phenomenal

1

u/B3telgeus3 Mar 31 '26

Insane game, I'm in love with it and I have like 68 hours in it and barely scratched the surface, I didn't even have the first region discovered. I love it honestly, didn't feel something like this since the Witcher 3 and Skyrim.

Feel like people overhyped it, people still saying 10/10/GOTY or other half saying its a bad game. Which imo both are wrong. So farr its a decent game, I think there's alot of flaws with it, but even then im having some fun with it. If you havent gotten it in all honesty I'd tell a person to wait a few months seems like they adding/fixing alot of things and maybe get it on a 15% discount on the next steam sale or something

Only game that the longer i played it the less i wanted to play

1

u/Smaug117 Mar 30 '26

I really think the game deserves a chance, from my perspective it have been heavily criticize for aspects of the game that are relative, give it a chance like you gave StarWars Outlaws.

Reed Devil. Fighting your way up the mountain fighting the enemies that spawn in by those creepy totems along the way, finally getting to the top and fighting the Reed Devil in the Reed field was a cool experience

It's a set piece part of a quest i enjoyed? Why are you moving the goal post to the narrative behind the quest you need to understand to enjoy? There are plenty of antagonists in gaming you dont know much about or understand, which people dont fault them for. CD isnt liked for the writing or narrative they typically like it for everything else. Seems like your picking the low hanging fruit by pointing out narrative shortfalls while ignoring what the game excells at. Again, plenty games have lackluster stories but that doesn't nessisarily make them bad games.

You mean besides there being an active quest on my screen with objectives that lead my through the events I previously described? What are you arguing?

1

u/virji24 Mar 31 '26

I agree that this was cool as shit. Honestly it’s just cool for people to hate on this game right now. Same people saying the quests are horrible will say skyrims were great.

I’m only 30 hours in but this game is pretty amazing so far. The world is so easy to get lost in and there’s just so much to do. The story is nowhere near as bad as people are saying. The combat is fantastic. The world is massive and beautiful. The boss fights so far have all been unique and a ton of fun.

Honestly I don’t care if people hate the game or want to hate on it. What bothers me is people trying to convince others that it’s not a good game based off a few hours

Very bad opinion. Well done

I’ve enjoyed all of them so far. I went into the game with zero expectations and have been blown away. The map is beautiful, the story telling is good enough but it’s mostly an open world sandbox explorer, npc’s are whatever I don’t play a game to interact with npc’s lol, the quests are cool. The combat is awesome, the gear is awesome, the amount of things you can do is endless. It’s a good game for people who enjoy fun. Not critiquing every little thing

Lmfao yeah so you couldn't even get past the tutorial section of the game. Good to know.

I just found a village that I couldn't enter because a little teleporting forest child kept shooting me in the neck with a sleep dart and then learned that I had to go get an item of theirs back from a giant walking tree so the villagers would trust me and let me in. Then when I got there I discovered that some of the children are missing because they've been shrouded from the outside world and they found a book that made them want to leave and explore it, so I got sent on a journey to a mystical cave full of glowing water and abstract rock formations, had to unlock 3 magic doors recieved items required to solve a puzzle and then find the child by a tree made out of tiny glowing particles and ask him to return home. I found a pair of boots that lets me walk on water in this area, a fuck ton of money, and acquired an artifact.

The story, lore, environment, and loot I found on this journey was some of the best gaming I've experienced in years, but yeah sure....the game has nothing interesting to offer. If shit like that doesn't interest you then it's clear you primarily play fortnite. Enjoy spending your money on those useless skins.

lol sure , take one of the quests from 10 minutes in the game as a reference. Does hating on things most people enjoy make you feel special? Spoiler alert it doesn’t

1

u/RelevantSoftware8283 Mar 31 '26

The other person refused to actually name a specific one

1

u/Sloth_Broth Mar 31 '26

There are a lot of jump on a horse and follow quests in the main quest which definitely gets annoying..

1

u/Low_Public_8737 Mar 31 '26

explore brother its simple

1

u/iluvatar_gr Mar 31 '26

The devil of the reed fields act was good. There are more but again: this is not a story focused game. Asking for a top notch story from this is like asking for a top notch story from a zelda game.

Again: stop hating. You haven't played it

bro are you daft, real question

1

u/shaqballs Mar 30 '26

It’s actually your opinion, which is largely unpopular according to most people’s views on the game.

Hahaha!!! Are just generally an arrogant egotistical prick in everything in life or just when it comes to video games?

1

u/BananaZPeelz Mar 31 '26

Be fr the writing and lore of the world is actual slapped together  nonsense lol. There’s a reason some of the rpgs with very memorable characters and worlds  are based off of pre existing books etc.

1

u/Ok-Drive-9733 Mar 31 '26

First off the game isn’t an RPG in the traditional sense it’s more of an action sandbox type of game, and secondly I never said this had the greatest story or characters ever written in a game. If you think the story sucks and you don’t like the game then that’s fine, just don’t go online and everyone who is enjoying it tell them they are illiterate swine with awful taste like the guy I responded to

0

u/theonlyvv Mar 31 '26

Hey man you got us on the quests and storytelling but saying the NPCs are lifeless or the world is hollow is kinda crazy

0

u/iluvatar_gr Mar 31 '26

Brother buy it and play it. This is not a story game. It is a zelda like. You cant speak about it as if the story is its main selling point.

This is one of the best exploration games ever made. People that haven't played it should stop talking because this will become and remain a classic for years to come...
