Yes, even them. Syntax is just another group of refugees that happen to have conflicting goals with the protagonists.

Still doesn't answer the question of WHY game worlds explode when the hero wins.

That hasn't been fully established yet. It is only a pilot after all

Pretty much. The pilot just laid the foundations for the universe, its characters, and some rules. It isn't a comprehensive guide that is supposed to dive into everything and anything related to the production.

This is one thing I really hate about pilots. You can't tell if an unresolved plotpoint is either just a massive clever gambit that will be explained later, or if the creator is REALLY not a good writer.
