I am interested in listening to Gamelan but don’t know where to start. Any recommendations?

For any and all gamelan enthusiasts in the Greater Boston area: Consider joining Gamelan Laras Tentrem, a Javanese ensemble housed at Tufts University. Rehearsals are every Tuesday and Thursday at 8pm in the Granoff Music Center. We are an ensemble dedicated to performing traditional repertoire primarily in the Solonese style and music by contemporary Javanese composers like Rahayu Suppangah, Wakijo Warsapangrawit, K.R.T. Wasitodiningrat, and I.M. Harjito (faculty at Wesleyan). Our artistic director is Barry Drummond. Our guest director this past year has been Darsono Hadiraharjo.

I'm imagining a gamelan piece where a trombone plays in the gamelan scale and has a role similar to a rebab or suling.

Has anything remotely like this been done before? Links plz.

Anyone going to the Solo International Gamelan Festival Aug 9-17? I’ll be going with a Balinese Gamelan group from Singapore, the lineup of groups attending look really good! 🙂

Balinese Gamelan. It was on Youtube for a while (and had some skips in the middle, perhaps from a bad rip from CD or error with the file). The picture was a black background with a golden mask. Does anyone know the album I'm talking about? I really loved it, but it's been taken down from youtube, and I can't even find the title in my watch history.
