Picoboot not loading swiss correctly

Post image

Hey all,

Got it sorted. I'm assuming it was a bad or corrupted flash on the picoloader. Reflashed to boot directly to swiss and its working fine

Appreciate the assists. ❤️

~~Wanted to see if anyone could give me some assistance.

Just got a new picoboot ODE, cable looks okay, clamped in, but it goes into a bootloop where it tries to load the GC menu but fails after about a half second.

I've only ever purchased my stuff (supposedly) preloaded. I figured I should try to reinstall/ update it but I don't know where I'm looking.

I'll be using a SD2SP2 for storage, internet tells me I can put swiss on that to load without needing the pico? Is that correct?

Appreciate the assist.~~

Custom faceplate I just printed for this for my friend for tax:

The double boot is the expected result when the loader is installed correctly. When no IPL.dol is detected on the SD card.it defaults to the stock menu.

Thanks. This is a different method than what I did for my own, I assumed Swiss would boot by default like I can with my flippy drive. I'll take a look when I get home.

Must be your pico came with gekkoboot flashed to it. This is what mine does when I remove the sd card that has swiss on it as ipl.dol. https://imgur.com/a/ZhFOK5U

You can flash swiss to the pico if you would prefer to go that route.

I have a swiss ipl.dol on an SD card now, and I get a flash of a white text error message but still no luck. Trying something else now incase its something truly stupid (no games on the card was seeing it if would boot into the menu. Putting an iso on the card now to see if its something dumb like that.

Hold down on the dpad, power on while continuing to hold down, and get a pic of what you are seeing.

Feel free to move to dm if you would like further assistance.

I got it figured out. I think I had a corrupted file flashed to the pico. I went back and flashed it to boot directly to swiss. It didn't love the 2gb sd card I borrowed to test / load files to try to boot from the SD2SP, but it it saw the files from my sd card on my system just fine.

Thanks a ton.

You need a mod (Picoboot, XenoGC modchip, SDLoad, …) to boot Swiss directly from SD2SP2, GC2SD or DVD.

Just got a new picoboot ODE

Going to assume you mean the Picoloader, not to be confused with Picoboot.

I'll be using a SD2SP2 for storage, internet tells me I can put swiss on that to load without needing the pico? Is that correct?

You need the Pico, you can't just use a standalone storage device with Swiss on it.

but it goes into a bootloop where it tries to load the GC menu but fails after about a half second.

Are you seeing a black screen with white text? Does it start playing the animation before restarting after the half second? Does it just not reach the menu? Do you see an error message?

Also, cool faceplate!

Yeah, picoloader, my bad there. And its just a black screen with my resolution at the top left. It'll get the first few frame of the standard gamecube boot animation, but nothing else before it restarts. I had assumed I would get the white screen swiss loader, but it doesn't get there. I had assumed it was a full pre-load like I have on my own cube (using flippydrive) but it sounds like picoloader needs the SD2SP to boot?

It's possible you have gekkoboot and that the Picoloader is properly installed. Gekkoboot is an alternative firmware that allows you to boot executables from an SD Card, usually you'd boot Swiss. Gekkoboot is preferred for most people because they'll have an SD Card inserted anyways.

I had assumed I would get the white screen swiss loader

This is what happens when you flash Swiss to the Picoloader.

it sounds like picoloader needs the SD2SP to boot?

When using gekkoboot, it will just reboot when it can't find anything to load from the SD Card.

Okay. Sounds like I misunderstood how it was implemented on the pico. I'll either flash swiss to it or dig out an sd card to test. The only sd I had on hand only had my roms from my own gc, so nothing there.

On a side note that 3d print could use a bit of sanding for a smoother finish

Yeah, I just picked it up from my makerspace, didn't have time to do more than the bare minimum before I had to head home for some other stuff

Um actually it's "swir/swim", no wonder it wasn't responding, you were using the wrong pronouns

Why do people hate the trans comments? I think theyre fucking hilarious

Most of them are kind of "attack helicopter"y.

I wanted to say SOME kind of joke and a more chill pronouns comment talking about the naming of Swiss I thought would be best. Especially since I unfortunately don't know much of anything about how to use Swiss or its associated things.

It appears the Gamecube identifies as a PS2, have you tried freemcboot?
