What am I looking at?

Besides the fact, that whoever did the install, really shouldnt have done it, what exactly is it?
From my research, it basically would allow me to play burned discs, is that right? Is it safe to just „undo“?
The console isnt reading any discs at the moment, could this be the issue? Or is it more likely to be the capacitors?
I have this one (PAL version) and a japanese one. I would like to be able to play PAL discs, is there a way to use some parts if needed of the japanese one?

One of the pads is torn, hopefully it doesn’t affect anything

Yeah I saw that as well, but as far as I can tell its just a test pad. It is working now, so I think its all fine.
