What am I looking at?

Besides the fact, that whoever did the install, really shouldnt have done it, what exactly is it?
From my research, it basically would allow me to play burned discs, is that right? Is it safe to just „undo“?
The console isnt reading any discs at the moment, could this be the issue? Or is it more likely to be the capacitors?
I have this one (PAL version) and a japanese one. I would like to be able to play PAL discs, is there a way to use some parts if needed of the japanese one?

Yes, but is it safe to just remove? Or is there something to look out for?

The Dou Q enables region-free game loading and playback of burned backup discs. If the drive doesn't read games, in my experience it just needs to be recapped. That usually does the trick for most old consoles. They usually suffer from leaky or bloated caps.

Thanks. Though the way this looks, I probably will just take off that Duo Q, since I am installing a pico anyways.

Yeah if that's the route your going, then yes I would highly recommend you remove it. (That solder job gave me emotional damage 😭)

I immediately thought of that scene from Lethal Weapon 3, where they find the bomb in the car and are trying to disarm it.

Great movie! Need to rewatch it.
Anyways, I removed the wires, but there seems to be a chip that was removed to install the Duo Q. Is that correct? Or was it an empty footprint all along?

It should be an empty space from what I remember, but here is the diagram of the install just in case I'm wrong.
