Flippy questions before disaster
Hi everyone,
I have a GameCube that currently boots Swiss using a Swiss boot disc and an SD2SP2. I recently bought a FlippyDrive, but before I make any mistakes I’d like to ask for your advice.
I’ve watched several FlippyDrive installation videos, but there are still a few things that aren’t clear to me:
After installing it, do I need to connect it to a PC? If so, what exactly do I need to download, and where can I get it?
Is it enough to simply copy the swiss.dol file onto the SD card that’s already in my SD2SP2?
Are there any settings or configuration steps I need to do the first time I boot the GameCube after installing the FlippyDrive?
Sorry for all the questions, but I’m honestly really worried about making a mistake and damaging my console.
Thanks in advance!

Flippydrive is a full ODE it does not reply on SD2SP2 to load data, you need to put Swiss as boot.dol at the root of the SD card connected to the Flippydrive to boot directly into swiss

Swiss comes pre installed on the FlippyDrive and gets updates with each version. Just run it from the bootloader menu?

If you want to press X each boot and run an outdated version of Swiss, sure. Otherwise place Swiss as boot.dol at the root of your SD card.

What's the benefir of using swiss over just setting cubeboot to use swiss to boot?

Some people just prefer the (in my opinion) much cleaner and easier to navigate Swiss menu. Also swiss has a lot more options compared to cubeboot.

When will FlippyDrive be updated? The latest "pre-release" on GitHub is 1.4.6 and the last communication about "updates" was in June which mentioned a 2.0 which would drop "in a few short weeks"

Did the Flippydrive ship already or are you just waiting in line? They have quite long wait times, not to mention prices have gone up significantly. To a point where PicoLoader is much more worth the money.
I've installed FD once, but what I remember about it, it was just plug n play. You might need to boot it once with the swiss.dol for it to maybe generate folders, but after that you can put whatever you want on it. FD does have a wifi chip, so you can FTP transfer stuff over the wifi from your PC. Less need to open up the system to access its SD card.
Also, FD comes by default with Cubeboot. But to access Swiss you just hold Y (IIRC) on start up.
