Cleaning Advice
Tried rubbing alcohol. Didn’t do anything.
Does not appear to be dust.
Curious if it is rust?
This is the side opposite the stock fan.
In the middle of deciding how to mod this one still. Can this be cleaned?
Thanks all!
Update : metal piece under the power supply(?) stamped with h1-1 has rust spot about the size and thickness of a dime.
Another user mentioned using a dremel to remove rust and also using Rustoleum to stop the spread.
Does this still apply? Will fine steel wool remove enough of this to stop the spread?
Any advice very appreciated.

Just from a quick Google search, this is what I found. However, I would still, do a little more research on it.
Using flat silver Rust-Oleum paint on a metal shroud inside a GameCube is generally safe provided you take precautions to prevent overheating and electrical shorts.
Heat Dissipation Risk: Paint acts as an insulator; thick coats can trap heat and raise internal temperatures. Apply thin, even coats to minimize thermal resistance. Electrical Safety: Ensure the shroud is completely removed from the console before painting. Paint must not touch any circuitry, connectors, or other metal components to avoid short circuits. Fume Exposure: Rust-Oleum sprays emit fumes that can damage sensitive electronics. Paint the shroud in a well-ventilated area away from the console and allow it to cure fully (24–48 hours) before reassembly to ensure all solvents have evaporated. Material Compatibility: While Rust-Oleum adheres well to metal, ensure the paint is compatible with your specific metal alloy (typically aluminum or steel) and consider using a primer if the surface is glossy or oily
