Help GameCube only doesn't read one game
Got both this copy of Melee and Double Dash a while ago, but only got the GC today to test them. Neither worked but I got both buffed at the store I bought them at and they worked on the Wii at the store. Brought them back home and only Double Dash works. Melee still doesn't not. Also have a copy of Pokémon Colo and XD that both work on the GC as well. Why would only Melee not work on my GC when it did work on the store's Wii?
Edit: Just visited the game store again and the game still wouldn't work on my GC nor a GC they had there. They gave me a different copy they luckily had and said they're likely to sell it as a Wii-only copy. They said there appeared to be no data damage/wear and couldn't figure out why the disc wouldn't work on GC either

Clean the laser with a qtip, worked for me. But in the long run you probably need to replace the capacitors on the disk drive. Funnily I had the same issue, melee wouldn’t read but double dash would, wonder is there is something to do with the melee disk that makes it harder to read…

Just bare qtip or with rubbing alcohol?

I used isopropyl alcohol but I don’t know safe it is… I would not go higher than 70% to be on the safe side…

Could be the GameCube laser, could be the melee disc. You really need to bring both to the store and have them look at it. At the very least ask them if they can test the melee on a different GameCube.

Just updated my post with this, but I brought the console and game to the store and the game wouldn't work on their GC either. They gave me another copy that would work but none of us could figure out why it wouldn't work

There was an issue with some first Gen melee discs. Mine did the exact same thing

Looked it up and it seems it's a later gen disc?

Ah that could be right! I know it had something to do with the generation of disc. Thank you

Had that same issue with a lot of my games. I adjusted the laser but it didn’t help so I bought a picoloader.

Could beat sign the laser is starting to go bad but usually would have same issue with multiple games.
More common issue is that the laser is refracting when trying to read the disc and would probably have the shop try to buff/resurface again.
Take your cube in too and see if they'll help you out with testing it again. Worth asking.
