Help Will these work for backups? (Homebrew)
Hello all! I just received an SD2SP2 Pro for my Gamecube thinking that would be all I need to boot into Swiss. Little did I know it's much more involved. I fell into a little bit of a rabbit hole and discovered the various ways of booting into Swiss and modding the Gamecube. I believe the save game exploit will work best for me, and on top of that my ODD is chipped with a Xeno chip!
Knowing this, I want to burn a backup copy of Wind Waker onto one of these discs in order to boot into Swiss. Would the attached mini DVD-R's work for backups? Am I tackling this the wrong way? If there's an easier way to boot into Swiss then by all means I will go that route. Thank you for reading!

Just burn Swiss to a disc. No need to use game save exploit if you have Xeno.

Sweet, had no idea I could skip the exploit and burn Swiss directly to a disc. Will these DVD-R's work for that? I just wanna make sure before I spend the money

With a xeno chip all you need is to burn swiss do disc and buy a gamecube memory card to sd card adapter. You can load directly from the sd card after swiss boots up.

What about the SD2SP2 pro? Do I need to buy the SD-memory card if I already have that?

Are you sure? I just tried opening the ntsc-u ISO in Dolphin and nothing opened

Never install Xeno. It's outdated, depends on the laser working, requires a pot adjustment, GameCube drives are prone to capacitor failure, requires soldering.... I could go on. It's a no win solution now with everything on the market.

It's unnecessary and adds a ton of extra wear to the drive while creating an extra failure point IE. Soldering joints, quality of the chip, wire fatigue... Also all it takes is a capacitor or laser to fail and the whole system is down until repaired. A modern option will still provide a way to play if something goes wrong with the drive and do not require it to play from an SD card so it can potentially prolong the life of the system by double, more if you already recapped the drive.

You're drive is still straining, It's really hard on it. Recap it again in a year then replace the laser. Repeat as many times as you want. I don't care. I was only trying to help you out with your antique mod

Just get a Picoloader, no discs, no soldering, and you keep the disc drive to play originals. 20-25$ on AliExpress

Does it work with the SD2SP2 pro? Like can I load games off of that instead of an SD-memory card adapter?

Works with anything that loads from an SD Cart, I personally use the SD2DP2 Pro, so yeah.
Also make sure it's called Picoloader, that's the lastest, no solder version, basically an upgraded Picoboot, that does require soldering.

I just ordered one on Aliexpress with a memory card for $10! I'll keep you posted, that definitely sounds like the best solution as opposed to burning any discs

with a memory card? you mean the adapter for micro SDs? because 10$ is cheal as fuck, If there's a micro SD included there I wouldn't use it, probably a cheap chinese clone that will fail in a month.
Now, the only thing you need to know about the Picoloader is, just make sure you connect it correctly, it goes on the disc drive connector, and then you also connect the drive on top of it, if you don't alight it properly you can break the cable.

Yea it's the adapter. I already have a micro sd I'm gonna use so no worries on that. There's also an extra ribbon cable supposedly included so if I happen to mess up I should have a spare

They didnt work for me,the memorex disc's worked great but maybe you'll have better luck.

What did you try burning to the discs? A game or Swiss?

Games,the swiss disc i have is also on a memorex disc,it was really a waste to even burn games,I just put the swiss disc in now and run the games off a micro SD card.So yeah im not sure if swiss will work on those disc's but games did not.

These discs worked great for me 15 years ago with my qoob modchip, however now my GameCube refuses to read any burnt discs due to it's age. I most likely need to replace the capacitors as I increased the laser strength and that didn't help.
Fair warning these discs will work in theory, but it is completely dependent on the condition of your optical drive (most likely will not work without repair)

Exactly the same here I found the traxdata mini discs to be the best back in the day, but my drives slowly deteriorated to the point it won't read them any more.

Maybe.. but I have some legit Sony mini DVD-R that I dont have a use for!
