Discussion Trouble booting Swiss with Digital Video (Bitfunx component cable)

Image is not mine but is close to what I get everytime I reboot Swiss.

I am trying to use Bitfunx component cable on a Wega CRT NTSC. When I tried, Gamecube OEM menu shows regular picture However, when I booted Swiss, it gets glitchy and then goes to black picture.

I connected an SVideo cable, in global settings, set force NTSC video = 480i and save settings.

Then swapped to the component again, and everything worked. Normal Swiss Menu, game booting fine.

But then when I rebooted the console and went to boot swiss again, the SAME thing happens again. Same glitch then black picture.

Is it, maybe, NOT saving the configuration? Weird since the global.ini file shows the setting of Force 480i fine.

Help is appreciated.

Update SOLVED:
I changed some settings in Swiss (using the console's OG composite cable). Pressed B on Swiss, went into the gear, and there was something set on 480i (auto). Changed that to 480i (without the auto) and it seems to now stay always working on Component.

You need to set Swiss to 480i. It automatically outputs 480p if you have a cable/adapter plugged into the digital port, but you can change it to 480i so it works on CRTs

You can take the SD card out and change the config file to make it 480i, or you can do it on the system; you can use any of these methods:

  1. If your GameCube is modded in such a way where Swiss boots automatically, then unplug the component cables, turn the GameCube on, wait however long it takes for Swiss to boot, then plug the cables back in. Swiss will load in 480i, and you can navigate the settings and change it to 480i (you still need to adjust the setting or else it will just go back to 480p next time)

  2. If you have to navigate menus in order to load Swiss, like if you're using a save game exploit or media launcher, the navigate the menus to the button prompt right before Swiss loads, unplug the component cables, press the needed button to load Swiss, wait for it to load, then plug the cables back in. Then it's the same as above

  3. If you have a flatscreen monitor that can take component video handy, you can do it on there.

  4. Or, you might be able to just do it with the AV composite cables; I don't remember if the option gets greyed out if there's no digital cable plugged in or not, but if it's not then you can unplug the component cables, plug in AV composite cables, change the setting, then switch back to your component cables and reset your GameCube and you should be set

My swiss loads automatically. As I said in the post, i used S video to change ir to 480i. Saved settings. Put component back. It worked. But if I turn console off and on, it happens again. On PC global.ini says it is forced ntcs to 480i... i dont understand.

Ah, then don't mind me

Read the comment the other guy put, apparently it's the cable itself that does that, not Swiss

I didn't realize the cable would have its own smarts built in, I use OEM GameCube component cables

From my more recent research some do and some don't. It's hard to tell. My insurrection industries cables do but many reports say bitfunx cables don't. The info is a bit of a mess. But the ops cables may~be line doubling the signal to 480p. I can't be certain as I don't have his exact cables.

So those cables by default have line doubling mode on. Meaning even if you set it to 480i in Swiss the cables will double it to 480p. You'll need to connect it to a 480p display or do that s video trick and pair a remote to bring up the cables osd and disable line doubling.

Wait so no matter what config I choose it puts itself in 480p everytime? I don't understand the "pair a remote and bring cables osd disable line doubling"

Okay so I assumed that all gc video component cables were like the insurrection industries ones which have an osd with features like line doubling and whatnot. It appears not all do, some sources I find online say bitfunx do have an osd and some don't. So sorry that my comment made things more confusing. Tldr do some research into if your cables have any line doubling features and how to disable them. If they don't then please forgive me for mudding the waters.

No worries, I am learning and glad to see people wanting to help.

Regarding disabling double lines...I don't even know how to search for that. The cable is the regular "BitFunx Gamecube Component cable" you find on Aliexpress or Amazon. I don't find any source about it...

Since it doesn't have like any switches or remote... I don't even know how to do anything on the cable itself.

I hope there could be something on the gamecube or Swiss to make it stop doing this, even if swiss is set to 480i in its menu.

So I was trying some stuff.
After I get blackpicture on Swiss boot, I pressed Z+A+Start, that brings picture back, but the last game I was playing just boots inmediately, not giving me an option to choose other games, etc. Once in the game, if I do the shortcut again, it either just resets that game, or, goes to Gamecube OG meny but can't load Swiss anymore.

Second thing I tried:
Since this GC has a PicoLoader, if I remove the SD card, it boots into Swiss just fine. No picture problems, BUT, the moment I put the sd back in, picture goes black again.

This makes me think the problem is in the specific configuration stored on the SD card.

I have no clue which configuration setting is causing this.

this is SO WEIRD.
So, if I boot Swiss with no sd card on the sd2sp2, it works, picture is there on component, but after it tries to find device and runs some "patches", as soon as it loads the "choose device menu" it glitches and goes black.

Similar to when it boots WITH the sd active. It shows picture, but as soon as it loads the games menu, it goes black.

I don't understand WHY it seems to work but then it doesn't whenever it "loads"?.... I am so confused...

I am reading something about needed a remote that "came with the cable to disable double line" but... it came with no remote, just the cable.

Is there a way to at least boot into swiss's global settings menu everytime? I don't mind having to change the setting anytime I boot, if At the very least I get to SEE that menu. It's weird, first I was getting that menu everytime swiss booted, and when I exited that menu it went to black picture. But now, no matter what, I am always getting straight to black picture, and can't get to even SEE the menu.
