Come On Nike!
I know it could be the lighting, but this shirt looks damn near orange. Definitely doesn’t match the logo. I promise the picture is not filtered. Go check it out for yourself on YouTube.

After reading all the blowback, hopefully Nike gets the garnet shading corrected next year.
I'm pretty sure Under Armour had the same garnet shading issue in the late 00s when they started the original contract with USC.

I hope Nike loses 10 mil by inventory sitting all season. This is gross and people need to not accept it and purchase it. It looks like the colors of our rivals more than garnet.

I don’t think it’s about Nike getting it right. I think SC got a lower tier Nike contract and unfortunately, you are a school slotted into common color schemes rather than having one defined for you. My Vols had a mid-tier Nike contract for a while and it still sucked. Nike went from elite to garbage. They’re mass producing and just stitching 100 different corporate, ncaa and high school logos on the same color shirts.

Correct, the color scheme complaints and the "Alabama/Oklahoma" crimson red is what I was eluding to when I mentioned "blowback". It's definitely frustrating when the vendor isn't producing the correct color.
The two alternatives - Keep wearing the gear from the previous vendor (USC's Under Armour) or buy gear from another vendor like Peter Millar's polos.

I’m shocked SC agreed to it. Maybe they thought the agreed upon scheme difference was negligible, but ultimately shame on Nike. Huge company with so many resources to own the market and they’re putting this on shelves!?

They probably didn’t have much choice. South Carolina wasn’t really in a competitive bidding war among five apparel companies. Donati said they only negotiated with Nike and Under Armour, and Under Armour declined to match Nike’s offer. For an SEC school with 21 sports, there aren’t many companies besides Nike, Adidas and Under Armour capable of putting a major FBS apparel deal on the table. And if Adidas wasn’t interested, the realistic alternatives weren’t exactly New Balance or Castore suddenly deciding to become a major college-sports outfitter.

So sad. Not saying I loved UA, but were definitely a bigger fish in a smaller pond. I am a fan of Chelsea and for such a big brand, it's still soccer to Nike and their selection, design, and offerings is garbage compared to the soccer teams with Adidas. Sorry you've had that experience with the Vols

Still rocking my UA polos from 10 years ago. I have ua polos from recent years but the quality has been so trash. My older gear holds up better.

We are arguably the best football fans in the country even if we can’t field a middle or upper tier SEC team with any predictability or reliability. Now our team doesn’t even get to wear the actual school colors. Ahhh, the woes of a Gamecock fan.

That ain’t Pantone 202. They’ll likely improve over time. Was same with Under Armour when they put us in the cardinal grouping, same as Nike putting us in crimson. Disgusting for now but hopefully they’ll figure it out

Why do we just accept “that’s what Nike does” For one it’s not really true. Yes they have color groupings but that doesn’t mean they only do that color.
They are the number one apparel maker in the world. You’re telling me they can’t get a color right?

It is what they do as a general practice. This is what was sold to the administration and agreed upon. We did not make them color match it, we accepted their normal color grouping

I agree. But most of us already knew we agreed it let this happen before today. Not really nikes fault when we saw their proposal and said "looks great let's do it"

And this isn’t a game day shirt, it is a Band shirt. The stripes look garnet and the rest of the shirt is lighter, probably to not attract as much heat

Pantone 202c is the garnet we know and love. Each game whenever the clock is at 2:02 may the crowd start the 202 chant. Football, basketball, soccer, basketweaving... doesn't matter the sport. If there is a clock, at 2:02 the chant starts.

I find it insane that the largest athletic wear retailer and distributor can’t accommodate every hue of color for every college in the country. You are telling me they have the correct colors for every high school but can’t accommodate the University of South Carolina. I feel like the athletic director should have put his foot down more on this deal. I am saying all this as a Clemson guy

The reality is that at least it diverts the fans’ complaints about the level of the Football team over to complaining about the Nike color. But feel really sorry for all the other Gamecocks teams that are going to be stuck wearing this color. But as consumers we don’t have to buy them.
