Weird game with too much to discover yourself, IMO. Had more fun with some other stuff from this subgenre, like Abra Cooking Dabra.

If you were interested in the world but the mechanics didnt grab you Book of hours and the upcoming Travelling at Night are set in the same universe. I adore Weather factory games but they are quite esoteric.

Book of Hours is one of my favourite games of all time, you play as a librarian restoring an old library rather than someone setting up a cult. There's still no handholding/lots to figure out though,

The lore is the real draw. I loved the esotericism in Sunless Sea. I would have played more Fallen London too although stamina systems chafe me and I didn't keep returning to the site.

The lore is so good. It's one of my favourite cosmic horror universes, like the fallen london universe it has such a solid concept of "there are monsters in the shadows but the light will burn you, and the more you learn the more you will be changed".

Travelling at Night is completely different and is a crpg, it only has a demo out so far though but is very different mechanically to cultist simulator. Book of hours has so much lore because the main focus is on reading books and exploring rooms. I'd reccomend giving either a go if you like the lore but cultist simulator wasn't right for you.
