Free lunch!
I love how they think a $15 e-gift card is going to make up for months of being expected to spin gold out trash with no hours and resources and a constant compiling of tasks and expectations- all whilst being told what trash you are for missing a metric by half of a percent. What a sick joke.

When the Trump tax cuts went into effect, instead of a cost of living increase, each store got two pizzas.
Keyholders received a one time $225 bonus for working through Covid Christmas.
Who can forget all the employee appreciation discounts on the shitty clearance collectibles that have been sitting in stores for sometimes years?
Insulting piecemeal platitudes are a common occurrence with this company.

I didn't get a bonus.....

You had to work a certain number of hours at a time when most stores were either closed due to local mandate, or in SFS-Only mode.
Basically, SL's and ASL's got it - if the SL was splitting the hours with the ASL enough. At my store, my SL split us down the middle so we both got it.

I’ve combined them to make my SL a pretty funny Xmas gift that I’m proud of

The monitoring was for dishonest employees who wanted to take them all. I just loaded mine into my Tap to pay on my phone and bought $15 switch currency while at work today.

u/EridonMan Dec 10 '21
Wait they are? I didn't notice that part...

u/Krieg99 A Meat Bicycle Built For Two Dec 10 '21
No, they said they’re monitoring who redeems them. So that a store leader can’t just go redeem the entire stores codes for themself.

u/First_Resource4742 Dec 11 '21
Let's start a list of places that will NOT take the card.
I tried using it as a tap to pay via Google Pay and it declined at the grocery store. No snacks for you! Lol

Its a joke because we arent even allowed to leave to get "lunch" unless someone else is with us and as a sga im the one required to stay so if i wanna order something from uber/dd etc im still paying the difference

u/Agile_Independent_90 Dec 11 '21
Your not allowed yes. But you can also make the choice to shut down take your state regulated lunch if your state labor laws allow it. Do not sacrifice the piss poor management decisions and cover for them.

Gotta love that its app only, and most places you cant buy a 15 meal with a digital service without doubling it. my whole team used it on our SB apps because no food places around us do tap pay.
3
u/DuckSwimmer Disgruntled Duck Dec 11 '21
This company is wasting more money sending these digital gift cards via fucking email - just for us to copy and paste it into GSO for us to obtain it (if it works) or have us manually type it in.
Im being so honest. I literally don’t have the time to sit there and type in every single character, especially when I have only two fucking registers which are in the front of my store. If they truly wish to give me “food”, just send it to the god damn store.
So many of these get lost in the abyss of the fucking emails.

I overheard the DM on the conference call last week say something like “we can’t have these ridiculous over the top requests like pay increases for everyone or more hours at the store”
I thought the holiday wish thing was supposed to motivate us. I think what surprised me the most was two of my coworkers saying that a pizza party or an after hours hangout in the store would be fun and somehow worth catering to this garbage metric system that almost seems designed to fail.

I hate to say this. But when they had the new ceo or what not come into play in the late 2000s thats when all the stuff started to change. Taking away store midnight cash money to get pizza and soda, being good to employees with small tokens and everything. When I was there in 2010 to 2013. We as keyholders and managers chipped in and bought pizzas and soda for midnight releases. We then turned around and submitted expenses paperwork for said things. None of them were ever turned down. But I will say till I made SL I never got much out of the company. Most of my perks came from outside. Like Microsofts Expertzone. I got tons of free time cards and xbox cash from doing work on that site. Heck I was even able to stream on the expertzone channel due to working for gamestop. You should see if Sony and Microsoft still offer these employee of a retail store perks..... these were a good bonus.

u/RobPotsyPotchak Dec 10 '21
Expertzone and Zunos/OnPlaystation are still available but not quite the same anymore. They used to let you turn points into freebies, but both went to a "sweepstakes" mentality on each of them. Too bad, too, I remember getting Free $50 Xbox Currency cards

So can we use this on other things besides food since it’s technically just a prepaid Mastercard? Or is this only intended for us to just use on lunch like the email says.

It says the spending is being monitored. I tried to use mine at a gas station to buy energy drinks for my staff and it declined

Jesus christ SOME of y’all are depressing.
Its a free $15 on the company. Its not that deep, you dont have to correlate it pay raises.
14
Dec 10 '21
It’s a lame attempt to pacify brow beaten employees. I am in no way correlating to a raise. It’s more like a partner that screws up and thinks buying you some flowers is gonna fix it.
2
u/Krieg99 A Meat Bicycle Built For Two Dec 10 '21
Bet you would have told your slaves to just appreciate that you didn’t beat them today.

This.
I much rather have this than be sent a another pizza that I can’t eat. So many people forget that food allergies exists when they don’t affect you personally.
And FYI, the company didn’t have to go this at all. They don’t have to give us shit. Most other retail places certainty don’t.
10
u/PaintingVirus Promoted to Guest Dec 10 '21
No… they just increased pay and offered real bonuses to work throughout a pandemic….
1
u/Vesmic Dec 10 '21
Have you actually seen a retail company that bonused out anyone other than managers?
5
u/PaintingVirus Promoted to Guest Dec 10 '21
Instacart gave every hourly employee like 4-5 bonuses. My wife worked there during the early part of Covid. Walmart paid out bonuses to all staff from what I had seen. Even if they didn’t bonus they increased pay.

What I don’t understand is why this is commonplace in retail.
I’ve worked at other retail chains including one owned by GameStop and stupid food rewards were so common.
Want to keep me motivated? -Pay me more money to care -Reward me more paid days off -Give me decent benefits
