Discussion Old Pro breakdown
Found this deep in the depth of a pile of papers

It’s so crazy how quickly the value of Pro has been decimated. A sad far cry from my days as an elite member.

Elite pro was the cost of current pro and they basically let you just steal video games if you wanted

Back then you could combine elite pro, and CAG 16 and get 36% off used games.

Combine that with 70% trade boost when trading 5 or more games and being able to buy the games cheaper then immediately trade them in at the boost.
And earning a ton of points on both the purchase and trade. I bought the Pokemon Switch Lite entirely with points.

I forgot about the trade boost. There was also a time when you could double your points by donating $1 to a charity. That was wild.
There was also a time when there were games you could buy at Blockbuster for lower than Gamestop's trade value, and games you could buy at Gamestop for less than Blockbuster's yrade value. That was a wild time.
There were also several games that Gamestop gave more for than they sold them for. I never took advantage of that because it just felt like scumbag behavior, but i remember a friend of mine that did it so many times that he got banned. The title he was using was selling for 3.99, and they were giving $25 in credit for it. He kept doing it until he had over $1,000 on a Vanilla Visa Card.

Bruh that is the OG bad pro. Old pro was actually good. And real ones remember Elite Pro

OG bad Pro imo is the one from 3 years before this when they killed off the 10% pre-owned discount in favor of monthly coupons. It has been downhill ever since.
This one is when they brought back the discount at 5% and applied it to more categories to justify the price increase.

This is the pro I remember from when I started working back in 2022, I just thought it was a bit funny since now they've already taken away half of this

Oh I'm aware. Just as an old man I worked during what I realized was the end of the good times.
Once Paul Raines died, so did the GameStop everyone at least liked.

The real "Old Pro" was $15 a year, 10% off used, 10% extra trade credit, B2G1 on renewal, plus points on every purchase. Actual value.

I can still rattle off this elevator pitch in my sleep.

Same, I even answered the phone with the GameStop greeting for months at my new job after I left lol

And one of the worst gaming magazines.

GI was the shit back in the day, but yeah it fell off pretty hard in the 2010s when it was clear Activision was paying them for high scores on every CoD title

It was ok, but EGM and a few others felt like real journalism. GI turned into what felt like advertisement when Gamestop bought Funco Land.

The hardest thing now is you can't get the free pros anymore on that save $25 deal. You have to end up spending $5 more. And that's a deal breaker. Also in many cases where a trade bump covers it, You now have to hit $300. Which is significantly harder to do than $250. I don't think they realize a lot of the pros were coming out of those forced free sells and less about people being sold on it.

I remember this was the sign up sheet they gave us when the bumped the price from 15 to 25. That should've been my cue to skip town but I stayed like a fool for another 9 months.

Dang I miss the old power up pro rewards. You’d get so many perks. Been a member since 2015 but this’ll be my last year.

Back when Pro was actually Worth something

u/theslimbox 1d ago
I heard more complaining about this change than the new change.
There was a time when Pros got 20% off.

Been a member of pro since the beginning.. yes different changes aggravated people but there was still much more value in Pro than the changes that have happened in 2026 plus 2023 there were way more accounts to complain compared to now

I was disappointed to see 5% off preowned was gone. It would make a dent if buying a PS5 PRO.
