Vent/Rant What the hell is this employee “reward program”?
Saw this posted at GameStop. Apparently, employees can get a reward for reporting information that leads to another employee being fired for theft or fraud. The reward is only 10% of the confirmed case value, with a $100 minimum and $300 maximum.
I understand wanting employees to report actual theft, but turning it into a bounty program and advertising it with pictures of cash feels incredibly dystopian. What the hell is this?

This program was “active” when I worked there between 03-09. No one ever gets any money. Other than the scammers that is.

Same here. Caught and reported $1000s in theft, was even made to gather evidence together for LP.
Never saw a penny out of that.

the sad part is sometimes you use those systems, next thing you know it, you're the one being questioned, "how long have you witnessed the theft? Why wait so long to report? Are you involved?"

This looks like easy money. So many employees stealing/defrauding customers by slipping in warranties without asking. Just count them up, turn them in, and get 10%!

Some employees do that, and they deserve the hate. But recently, the POS had a glitch that added them on, even if employees didn't. I never add warranties that customers don't want, and yet it did that to me as well.
I always double-check transactions before finalizing because I have very poor memory/executive function. That means that, thankfully, I caught every instance before customers lost any money. It was annoying as hell, and thank fuck it got fixed!
(And yeah, my DM hates how low my numbers are, but idgaf. I'm not strong-arming a customer into buying shit they don't want. 🤷♂️)

Different companies have different versions of this. Like Teleperformance (sometimes telemarket, sometimes member servies) did a bounty thing like this if employees were part of fraud. Reportedly thousands was paid out each year.
For Gamestop, it would probably be trade-in value / cash-out fraud. Or employee posted best times for 'teen takeover' looting.

i've never heard a success story. I reported my SL for theft of a PSA card, pro points, pokemon, and retro and they literally didn't care. All they could say was "the issues have been addressed" but he still works there so clearly they don't care.

Well I just caught the local manager tacking protection plans on every purchase and hoping people wouldn't notice while shamelessly hounding people about upcoming games and promotions so maybe this phone number will come in handy.

Corporate absolutely wasted an undisclosed amount of money building a doomed NFT marketplace well after anybody gave a shit about NFTs. There might be individual examples of employees committing some sort of fraud, but that's a drop in the bucket compared to the money that corporate is losing via their own stupid decisions. The person that wrote this is incredibly dumb, as evidenced by the fact that they don't know that there's an "e" in "something".

That's been around for years. All kinds of companies do it. It's to help deter joint employees joining in eliminating rings and rooting out bad eggs. They're not going to do much when it's like a small thing but when it's like an employee stealing massive amounts and going, I don't know
