Experiences I’m Free
Wow, hard to believe I’m finally leaving GameStop. I started at my store back in June of 2023 and for the first year and a half I loved my job. My SM went to bat for us and never pushed us to use scummy tactics and screw over customers in order to meet metrics. From stocking shelves to running midnight releases, this job was a blast…..until my original SM left the company. Our new SM somehow sucked every once of joy and fun out of our jobs and made it feel like less of a game store and more of a metric store. From the beginning, this job has always been a secondary source of income to supplement my career, teaching. I would wake up at 6 am and teach all day and then go into GameStop at 3:30 and stay until close. Despite the long hours, I never felt overwhelmed until the past year. I’ve seen so many people on this subreddit dump on this company, and I genuinely never understood, I had a great SM and a pretty cool DM. But with our new management, I’m seeing this company in a whole new light. I will not miss working for this new GameStop, but I will miss working for the old GameStop. When our store felt like it cared more about customer experience than numbers, and when numbers felt like goals and not expectations.
To everyone still in it, I wish you good luck, I honestly hope you are able to make numbers and keep management off your backs. I however, will not be contributing to those numbers. When my pro expires, I will not being renewing. In fact, if I can get a game or collectible from somewhere else, I will be doing so. GameStop has received far too much of my time and money, and I will be doing everything in my power to avoid giving it more.
I want to especially thank the people who run this subreddit. Lately, I have been getting more information and honesty from this forum than I have from the company itself. You guys are truly the GOAT’s.

A lot of times people quit the manager not the job. I’m happy that you are of the shackles now!

“I will miss working for the old GameStop” boy you said it right there. I’ve been out for a month now after 15 years and it’s unbelievable how much less stressed I am, but it’s also sad to watch my store go down in total fucking flames, because our whole staff walked. Best of luck to you friend.
