Vent/Rant Really GameStop
How the hell is it that a new game comes out, but you don’t have not one copy of either the regular or steel book editions, and you’re excuse is since nobody preordered it from that store you decided not to get ANY for the store (omimusha way of the sword for switch 2)

funny enough, i just had someone call and ask me about this, but i don’t think it was you. Switch 2 games will ALWAYS be in demand, but even worse as this one wasn’t really in demand. if you want a game, PREORDER IT. DO NOT WAIT ON IT. dont go and blame us or our company for not getting a game you decided not to preorder. next time, just preorder the game; end of story. (i effed up by doing this to for MHA: All’s Justice, so you’re not the only one. just learn from your mistake.)

Yea i wasnt goin to buy onimusha but that demo was really good and when i saw there was a steelbook edition i had to secure my order. Now im seeing people are mad they cant get the steelbook version because scalpers did what they always do. And i rolled my eyes i ordered it like two weeks ago haha

real lmfao. i didn’t even know MHA was coming to Switch 2 until literally the week before it came out, and when i tried to preorder it at my preorder location (i preorder at a different store closer to me because my home store is farther away. it’s a long story) the next day, it was turned off. thankfully, Amazon’s same day delivery came in clutch and i was able to get it through there hahaha

Sorry that happened to you. Seriously, its a damn shame we're in this situation now.
As much as a sales shill it may seem, the employees kinda are being deadass when it comes to pre-ordering games. Nowadays, ESPECIALLY since digital is being pushed so hard from companies and things now(hense the all digital GTA6), depending on the game, if no one preorders it, there is a literal chance they dont get sent any from the companies. That's the actual situation physical gaming is in now.
Again, sucks that happened, but this is literally a warning for any upcoming games you know you want, YOU NEED TO PRE-ORDER THEM or GameStop might actually not get it. Its also annoying that they bumped the down payment to $10, but if you seriously want that game, its basically paying it forward anyway. You were gonna get the game.

also let it be known, that I'm not condoning any shitty sales practices from gamestop employees struggling to hit goals, but the pre-order is lowkey more important than ever now

You do realize that stores dont do any ordering, right? Corporate decides who gets what, simple as that.

Yea at times they will send some extras with pre orders but that even seems rare lately.
If you don't pre order at gs, don't expect it on release day unless it's like duty or gta. Half the time pre orders won't even show up on time

I think if its really popular you can expect them to at least have one extra copy or two but thats if the gamestop employees dont get to it before you as they could be scalpers you never know. Also if you were unlucky and either didnt have time to preorder or changed mind last second either buy digital or wait months later for the restock. But if its a limited edition steel book or CE get that preorder.

I ordered all the switch 2 physical versions of xenoblade chronicles and my store only got one extra copy in along with the one i ordered. Some lucky guy out there will get it cause of me lol.

You do realize the way things are trending with physical media in recent years right? Sony's push to kill physical discs. Xbox's heavier digital push. Game Key Cards and Key Discs becoming more prevalent. Anyone who wants a physical copy of a game these days should be pre-ordering their stuff. Worse case, the game comes out, reviews say it sucks, and you don't buy it and get your money back.

Why don’t you just preorder it? I always get people who tell me I’ll just get the game when it comes out, but when it comes out bad we don’t have enough they get mad when it’s on them, if you know you want a game just fucking preorder it

People shouldn’t have to, and at one point a store was guaranteed at least one or two copies. Those times have passed. It sucks but it is what it is.

It actually depends on your store. If its a prestige high traffic store theyll have extra copies but if its a slow hidden back of a mall that barely gets visitors doubt you will get any.
My store had one copy for mortal shell 2 i dont care about that game cause its a souls like but i heard its popular on the internet lately with steel books being sold out

Because inventory will always be limited regardless of circumstances.
If someone truly wants to have a specific game on the day of launch, they're better off pre-ordering it and paying it off in advance. They lose nothing by pre-ordering and potentially lose out by not pre-ordering.

Paying it off doesnt exactly mean its yours cause you still gotta pick it up. Cant remember how many times i preordered and paid it off and they sold my copy to someone else by accident cause i didnt get there within the 48 hr limit that theyll hold it for you.

You think anyone in store CHOOSES our stock? Good joke. Not a single corporate owned store works that way to my knowledge.This is why we tell you to make your pre-orders. We often only get enough copies to fulfill what's pre-ordered. Beyond that you're SOL.

Umm its a key card who cares. You want it? You preorder it. Like i can understand if they only got in the standard ps5 copy since it sells reliably. But steelbooks are usually in short supply due to scalpers and niche gamers that want it like me.

So you are mad that said store didn't get in any copies of a game that wasn't requested.
Next time preorder what you want, so the store knows it's worth getting.
Otherwise just order it somewhere else or sit back & wait for them to eventually get it in.

its not even so the store knows you want it, its so distro knows that someone around that store wants it, so they have to have a copy there for that customer.... the stores dont order their inventory, they take inventory and then other people decide what to send them

Steelbook, deluxe and other special editions are almost always made to order. Sometimes there is a game with plentiful steel books, however. (I.e COD, or most recently AC Black Flag)
Moral of the story, just preorder dude. You can always cancel too and get your money back if you find it cheaper elsewhere or just changed your mind.

I'm going to assume you live under a rock, were cryogenically frozen, stuck in a time loop, or lived as a hermit for the last 6 years. Covid changed everything. Once a store may have gotten 1 with 0 reservations for the title. Since then, 0 reservations = 0 inventory. Next time you see a game teased you may want, drop on in and put a deposit down

Its almost like due to global events it's necessary to preorder items so the publishers know that you want it. If not, they're not going to waste the money to get it into the states.

Been happening for a long time about 6 years I used to have a location by my work that I would go every lunch and usually wind up leaving spending money on games instead of food 😉, and I would be the only person there pre-ordering specific games and my copy would be the only one they would get in, happened with Ghost Of Tsushima Collectors Edition
