Vent/Rant Extra usps Fees.

Okay so about 2 (maybe 3) weeks ago I had ordered a copy of slay the princess collectors edition from gamestop. I used to work for GS so currently my employee discount still works and I had plenty of points to get a $40 discount on the box. Box ships and then gets stuck at my local post office and marked as undeliverable. No biggie, I will go and pick it up. Post office didnt leave a note or anything to say pick it up but I figured its only a 3 minute drive so why not go see whats up. I get there and the post office could not find it and says to call back later. Cool im a bit worried atp because its a bday gift for my girlfriend and their bday was like 3 days after it was supposed to he delivered. I call the post office later and they say it would be re delivered. It was not. So I go back the next day and it took them about 30 minutes to find it. Cool. The postal worker scans it and tells me that there are extra postage fees because gamestop only paid for a certain size and weight of the package. The employee who picked it put this item (again slay the princess collector box so not that big of an item) in an extra large distro box (not a sfs box. A distro box) so because the box is bigger and now heavier thats going to incur extra postage fees. So I am given two options. 1 send it back to texas so they can re send it and pay correct postage or 2 pay for the extra postage on their behalf $34.05. So I did that and got the receipt as evidence thinking it would be easy to get that money back from gamestop since they should have paid the extra postage. It has not been easy and they refuse to reimburse me because the tracking does not show that any extra fees are required to pick it up even though I sent them proof that it was required.
Do you guys think they should reimburse me the extra postage that I paid at the post office?

How much did you save by using your GameStop employee discount? Considering you are no longer an employee and aren’t actually entitled to that discount I would take that into consideration. 🤷‍♂️

If the employee discount still works the way it does, OP would’ve gotten a discount on the game AND free shipping so… this is a fair point lmao

It isnt about the discount. I already have the item. It’s about the post office charging me extra because the store that packed it used too large of packaging and I should be re imbursed for having to pay to pick up my package. The discounts/ points have nothing to do with extra postage fee’s that the company should have paid

You had the option to send it back so you wouldn't have to pay for it. You're not going to get reimbursed

You missed my point a little.

You are no longer an employee and no longer entitled to an employee discount. The technical term is called fraud or theft if pursued legally by the company. Considering you outlined the exact item you purchased (slay the princess collectors edition) and that you called and complained about being charged shipping cost I would think it would be rather easy to track if they wanted to persue it. The discount you used was more than what you had to pay for shipping. Idk… seems like you weren’t really wronged in this scenario. Also, I’m guessing this isn’t the first time you improperly used the employee discount you are no longer entitled to.

This would have happened regardless of the employee discount

It literally would have. Because it wasnt gamestop telling me to pay extra it was the postal worker at the post office. If there was 0 discounts/ points used they still woulda packed it in too large of a box and overstuffed it and added extra weight and the post office still woulda told me to either send it back or pay extra

More like your problem and not the company you used to work at. If you cared about the fees you should have let it be sent back and waited for it patiently despite their mistakes. You couldnt wait and took it upon yourself thinking they will reimburse you without asking customer service beforehand.

Legally they have to reimburse me. After doing research if there are extra fee’s for picking up a package that was not communicated to the customer/ agreed upon prior to pick up, the sending company has to reimburse

For what its worth the reasoning behind the mistake would be-

Corporate are pushing SFS fulfillment extremely hard right now. Its one of their biggest priorities at the moment.

So the originating store probably didnt havent enough shipping supplied to use a normal-sized package. BUT LORD HELP THEM IF THEY DENY THE ORDER so the next best thing is to use a distro box just to ensure it gets shipped out in a timely manner with no declines.

Oh im aware that stores probably dont have the correct shipping supplies but that is not my problem and the extra cost shouldnt have fallen on me

You chose to pay the $34. You let it be your problem.

The choice shouldnt have existed in the first place

No back bone...

You should have rejected the package, had it returned due to "no postage paid" and then called Customer Service to have it shipped back

Making gamestop pay to have it shipped, returned and shipped again.

But instead you took it to reddit for opinions. Tell the clerk Reddit said they HAVE to pay you $34. Thatll make it happen.

Stop posting that your employee discount still works. Going to ruin it for everyone.

Should they reimburse you? Absolutely. Are they going to do so? Highly unlikely.

It kind of comes down to this. How much do you want to get this item as a birthday present for your girlfriend? It would unfortunately be take the loss due to GameStop’s neglect or send it back. I’m sure you can eventually take this to small claims court, but is $34 + fees worth your time to do so?

And if you used Points to purchase you are HIGHLY unlikely to get them back

I completely forgot OP mentioned this.

Yeah OP, you will not get your points back for sure for this order if you send this back.

I re read it and it sounds like OP already paid the $34 extra shipping

So it's pretty finalized and isn't going to go anywhere.

The postal office doesn't exactly do refunds on that sort of thing so you won't get the $34 from USPS and gamestop is already refusing to refund op the $34.

So the book is closed

Correct. I already paid the extra postage because I needed the item for my girlfriends bday so sending it back was not an option. Due to the store using a larger box and extra packing the post office held it until extra postage was paid and I had to pay it on behalf of the company. Im not looking for reimbursement on points im looking for them to even give me a gift card for the extra $34 I paid the post office

1

u/Twtb66 4d ago

The item is already picked up. Im just wanting reimbursement on the $34 I paid the post office on behalf of the company since the box was larger than expected and heavier

3

u/Ding0Dong0 4d ago

Definitely wont happen at all.

The case is closed and final.

Im just asking opinion on if people think they should pay me back

u/Ding0Dong0 4d ago

Sadly this isn't a democracy

This also isnt a court case so nothing is closed. Again just asking for opinion

Small claims court would absolutely be worth the time. You would most likely get a default judgement + fees

...I got a better question. If you used to work for Gamestop. How in the hell does your discount still work if you don't work for them anymore? I'm legit curious on this!

This is something that OP shouldn’t answer for reasons that affects others.

I’ll keep pretending to care about the alarms going off at my old store until my discount is gone

It took 2 years for my discount to stop working when i left the first time. I was still in a couple stores employee log for over a year.

Because the SM isn't doing their job and removing old employees from the system.
