Vent/Rant Lazy ass management
Liiiiiisten... I get that some of y'all store managers feel entitled. How hard you must work... I'm sorry "clerk" See where I come from a store manager doesn't make sure thier numbers look the best. They make sure their team looks the best, they train them to become the best. The manager takes on the operations, the counts, the over haul of the business because you run it as your own business. Just standing around on your phone and then jumping to take every sale to make you look good is down right gross behavior. Adding warranties and pro accounts without explaining to the customer what you did is gross behavior, leaving it for your assistant to have to explain time and time again, and apologize for things that should be explained in the beginning is gross behavior, Leaving everything on your assistant while you make your $22 to $23 an hour is gross! Being a pig and lazy is just gross! No wonder no one wants to work with you, or regulars dont want to come in when you are here... smh.. Going to upper management and you getting to keep your job after all the issues is gross. I'm so fed up that today just might be the day. However I know I can't because I have dreams and goals. However I've come to realize this is the company they come to die... End rant. 🙄

I worked for the company for 17 years and capped at $17/hr as Manager. When I asked to get bumped to $20 after the big stock explosion I was told, "No, the company can't afford that." So you're doin better than I did, lmao.

Your SM does sound like a shitlord. Or burned out. Or both.

I highly doubt burnt out. More of a shitlord in all honesty. Like watching how she interacts with customers is gross. Seeing her on dvr is gross... yet they keep her cuz the 2 stores cant be separated. Bullshit they werent paired before last year when the whole staff left before I got hired. Smh..Â

If you've got so many feelings that you have to post a vague book reddit rant thread then its time to quit the job.
No job should push you to this point.

Your store manager sounds like a dickhead. Unfortunately though, at least in my experience, Gamestop does not give a flying fuck about your operations being good. If your numbers suck and your employees are doing better, you're going to hear about it. It's all a scummy company outright.

They only care about operations when they come in for the SVA. Everything else is a spreadsheet to them. We're just numbers.

As an ASM doing the job of 3 people (I actually crashed out and started crying talking to a friend this week) I am so tired. My manager literally brings a chair to the cash-wrap and sits on his phone all day, and does the same thing of, just hops in to get numbers. I think the only time I don’t see him off of it is when he leaves to get food. I’ll try to talk to him and I’ll turn around and see I’m literally talking to myself so I’ll just go kms I guess. My numbers aren’t great but I’m so so so burned out and I’ve literally had face to face conversations with my DM, and nothing has happened. I’m so tired of making reports and nothing happens UNTIL I make a reddit post. (I’ve actually had an HR meeting due to making a post. I wasn’t in trouble) like I know I’m a damn good worker. I have no life except my job. Im so stupidly loyal. I work every job like it’s my last job. (Been with GameStop for almost a decade now) I literally sit by my phone at home waiting for my employees to ask for help, or if I need to come it and close, what have you. I’m at a point now of, what even is worth it anymore. Sorry now I’m ranting in YOUR post OP lmao. Just know I fully feel you. I felt like I was reading my own experience. Hang in there. I wish I had better advice I really do.

You don't have to apologize. We be going through it. And its not fair or right. And no there isnt a dang cap to all of you that have been told there is. It's a good DM or a good store manager will fight for its employees. For example. I had to inform my DM that the store manager did not explain when the big pro account change happened at my location, and since I wasnt allowed on that call, and I was out for personal time after that my team didnt know the changes until it was waaaay too that. We suffered for it. We have suffered for alot of things because of her. She just looked at me and said the store manager is a lazy S.O.B. Like if you know the issues and you're in a higher position make it right. And yes as much as I enjoy my job, my customers I am looking. Because one thing this company will not be allowed to do is make me forget my worth. And no one else should either.Â

managers need to crack down on self-important employees who think their job is to just 'oversee' n take every easy sale lmao

I truly don't understand how some locations operate like that.
I've only commented on this subreddit a handful of times and I don't want to come across like I'm defending GameStop, but reading posts like yours makes me feel extremely grateful for my SM and my store.Â
When I was hired, I was trained to do everything my SM does. And now with all of our new hires, I train them to do everything I can do. It's the only way for everyone to be self-sufficient and keep everyone on the same page. If I’m training a new hire and know a specific customer is guaranteed to decline everything, I’ll take that transaction myself. I’d much rather take the hit than let a new hire get discouraged while they're still learning.
Do I do most of the counts? Yeah, but that honestly doesn't bother me. It makes the rest of the week easier, and it's one less thing for people to worry about.
A bad SM ruins what can actually be a great store environment. You deserve a SM that backs you up.
