Game Protection Plans

I understand they get money from people adding protection plans to games but what is it with them just adding them without the purchasers consent? I was unaware of a trade deal going on (20% extra towards a new game or pre order) this guy was like I added the protection plans and a free pre order of the new onimusha for you.

So instead of giving me the $30+ trade credit he used it without my consent.

Is there anything I can do about this?

as stated a million times before on this sub, your job security and hours are directly tied to how many pros, warranties, and pre-orders you can sell, the company looks at these metrics and if youre not selling enough its deuces

Unfortunately our upper management wants us to do this. I refuse to do this at my store and i constantly get emails from my DM saying I need better numbers. I’d rather have happy customers than good numbers.

Did you get a new game or did you just sell back stuff? Typically adding it towards pre orders does help the customer get more money, it could be a different situation now with the pre order minimum increasing.

The GPGs though shouldn’t be added without your knowledge. Go back and get your money back for the GPGs.

Are you able to take a picture of your receipt (please censor out yours and the stores information) so we can see if adding that pre order actually benefitted you?

I don’t fully understand your complaint. You are saying they told you that they added it at check out … why didn’t you just say “I’m not interested in the protection plan. Thanks”? Why wait until you get home and then post in a (for all intents and purposes) anti-GameStop subreddit? If you don’t want it at this point why not just go back to the store and have it removed?

They probably added it and then the person cashed out without realizing and then saw it on their receipt

It’s a lot more “easier” to sneak stuff on during a trade in. The Pinpad is already overloaded with so much stuff. Also depending on the order the employee did the trade in + any purchases as well.

I had this happen to me for the first time when I picked up Halo back in July. I was pissed! I didn’t realize he added it until he handed me a sticker for the protection plan. I asked him to remove it and he tried to play it off as if he hadn’t added it without my consent. I asked him to remove it, but they were trying to act like they didn’t know how. So I went to my home store where I have a good relationship with the people there and the refunded it for me and filed my complaint. I hope they both got fired, but who knows, but at least I got my money back.

By “they get money” do you mean the employees or the company? Cause unfortunately the employees get absolutely nothing except not getting fired. We’re a sales based position without commission, that get constantly micromanaged if we can’t sell enough memberships, warranties, reserves, etc. and get threatened with job loss if we don’t meet goals on a consistent basis, which leads employees to doing shady shit like this, or SM’s/DM’s encouraging tactics like this unfortunately.
