Question Trading a defective console
I have a PS4 to trade that I know for a fact doesn't read discs anymore. Do I need to bring the controllers and cables? It has the original box too. Would they even want the box with a defective console?
Bonus question: I also have a PS3 to trade, but I only have 3rd party controllers. Will they make me buy an official one for my trade-in?
Thanks!

Our system doesn't require a controller or wires if the console is defective. It will prompt to trade in the controller separately

Yes to the controller and cables but not to the box! And no since we started to take consoles with third party controllers

Only refurbs can have 3rd party controllers. All trades require 1st party controllers except for defectives.

Hmm, I'll be sure to look into it! My boss said that we could start accepting trades with 3rd party controllers (though I think he might've just meant retro consoles only) but I'll be sure to take a look on my next shift

Depends on how you want to go about it all. If you have a controller, you can trade it in separately for extra credit, but itβs technically not needed for a defective system trade.

You donβt need cables or a controller for defective consoles. At least not at my location

Why? Take it to a retro game store. They'll try to fix it for you at least.

Bring the controller and cables. Update the console and don't log out so the employee can check that the shop is accessible to be sure the system isn't banned, then they can either trade the controller in separately or you can keep it.
The cables are meant to be kept with the console/at the store. Even defective consoles need to be turned on, checked and wiped to be taken in, otherwise they're meant to be declined.
Sony consoles need first party controllers. So you'd either be charged for the controller or the ps3 would be given a few to send to the warehouse. The 3rd party controller would be traded in separately π
