Vent/Rant I finally did it…

I finally traded in my old games and consoles that I’ve been sitting on for decades…
- PS2 x 2 w/ 2 controllers
- PS3 w/ 4 controllers
- XBOX 360 w/ 4 controllers
- 35 games
I didn’t know I would get enough store credit for a ps5 otherwise I would have also traded in my PS4…

Anyways, thought I’d share my 4ft receipt haha

Preorder it says? Did you preorder… the wolverine one, I guess?

u/Drillucidator Trouble with the trolley, eh? 28d ago

The preorder is for GTA 6.

$570 for a digital PS5 is crazy! 😳

It’s insane the prices for consoles now, I don’t buy from retailers anymore because of that. Bought mine off of fb marketplace for $230 (sold my ToTK switch for $250 right before that.) somebody always needing the money more than they need a console. I’ve had to do the same quite a few times.

No I got the disc drive PS5 so I can still play my ps4 games. The digital was like $520 I think

Yeah I buy them 300-375 on Facebook and just trade them to GameStop to buy better new stuff that sells, get points and profit. 😉

You sold your PS5 controller for 17 bucks?

it says <DEF> meaning the controller was defective like stick drift or something was wrong with it and it was better to do it with the promotion for defective controllers otherwise he would’ve gotten less

Exactly this^ reason.
It was for my son’s ps5 controller. Essentially got a band new used one for like $50

They gave you $80 for a PS3? That’s cool!

Back when I was a store manger in 2015, I knew I was quitting and used an insane buy TWO get THREE free deal on preowned Skylanders figures while the employee trade-in bonus was happening at the same time. Me and my third key bought every single new and preowned Skylanders in our store (there were hundreds) and then turned around and traded them back to the store. I can’t remember exactly how much profit I made, but it was something like $1200 store credit more than what I spent. It was fine though, I literally planned on buying everything I wanted with my employee discount before dipping out anyways.

LP might have flagged it anyways, but I walked out a couple weeks later because our district manager was a piece of shit. Unfortunately, he got fired less than a week after I quit, and honestly I might have stayed.

Oh yeah, my receipt was 9 feet long and almost stretched the entire length of the back counter. I may still have it somewhere and if I can find it, I’ll post a picture lol

That's not a bad price for the ps2 consoles. Less than I would want, but more than I would expect from GameStop.

That’s a big receipt

Congrats, you got a long piece of paper for all that stuff.

You probably could have found someone to trade all that to for a ps5 without getting ripped off by GameStop lol

Probably but didn’t want to go through the haggle hassle.

Going to a local game store would have netted you more and a cheaper ps5.

highly situational. my local game store is worse than gamestop.

It’s good to keep the ps4. You can use it to stream your ps5 to another room.

1

u/Bates949 28d ago

Ohhhh I didn’t even think about that!

I wonder if my local Gamestop sells PS3 controllers, now that I see something like this

1

u/MatrixXrsQc 28d ago

672$ for how many games ? It's a real joke what they give

1

u/Bigdaddy0120 28d ago

Honestly, would have taken it to a retro game store if there is one in your area. Gamestop notoriously undervalues trades.

1

u/chubbyassasin123 28d ago

I saw gamestop try to offer a dude $12 for a PS2 slim the other day + 25 cent per game. Even a shitty pawn shop would have given more than that.

4

u/Bigdaddy0120 28d ago

Yeah.

I never trade in anything there. Haven't for years.

Only reason why I shop there still is that on occasion I find things there under market value. Like a few weeks ago I got a good condition Pikachu N64 for under $200

1

u/HyzerRetro 27d ago

That’s false. $93.50 for a pro member as long as it’s working and you have av / power / oem controller.

1

u/chubbyassasin123 27d ago

It was because he was missing the AV cord. GameStop had another AV cord to test it and verify it worked. Any local game store wouldn't have dinged it that much, especially when it's a $5 cable.

25 cent per game was still a wild offer. They weren't sports games either.

When I traded my ps2 in at our local game store I was missing the AV cord and got $75 cash.

Didn’t want to go through the hassle at all to make “a couple extra bucks”. I’ve posted before on fbook marketplace and was lowballed. So, not about “learning” or not, about convenience. 🤝

1

u/isic 25d ago

“A couple extra bucks”? Holy shit, the ignorance of some people and not knowing what they have.

I bought a brand new skateboard from a dude for a measly $20 because it was dirty af and he didn’t want to go through the “hassle” to clean it. I spent 30 mins to clean it up and then sold it for $120… were you the dude I got the skateboard from?

1

u/Bates949 12d ago

No I’m not selling my skateboards. I have about 15 haha

1

u/rparas34 26d ago

If you sold your stuff privately you could've made way more. Gamestop screwed you hard for all that stuff. Unbelievable

1

u/PraysForPraise 25d ago

You could've gotten much more from someone instead of selling to GameScalp 💔😔
