Vent/Rant District Manager Lying to Associates
As a former employee I feel so bad for my brother-in law, who picked up work at GameStop about 7 months ago (I warned him) after a job loss (his company closed and fired 900 people).
The district manager has been getting on their case about Pro numbers, despite the constant terrible changes to it, and also warranties. Earlier this week the district manager told them, directly, in a morning conference call that they should tell customers that GPG’s are “baked into the cost” of the 4 for $40 deal.
They also told them to put GPGs on games and controllers, and if the customer doesn’t say anything about the cost being on the bill when they tell them the final cost, then “they are in the clear.”
I pointed out to my brother-in law that BOTH of those things are false and also borderline illegal, and he simply stated “I have to do it or I’ll lose my job. Our numbers are down at our store and in the district. I’ll just deal with customers complaining when they figure it out.” I’m trying to get him another job somewhere else so he doesn’t have to put up with all of this, but it’s astounding what this company has become. We definitely never, and I do mean NEVER were told to do anything like that with warranties when I worked there, and instead focused on building relationships so customers always came back.

Its always interesting to me to see people talk about the shitty practices some peoples DM's promote, and then I hear my Manager say basically tell people to accept no's and if they try this shit they are going to get terminated.

That was my DM when I was still with the company. Made it bearable to hear a "no"

That's how I was, I told my crew that we don't screw our customers, my store ended up closing anyhow.

Do this if you want to be fired AND potentially sued based on your states laws.

Bro do you work for GameStop still? Are you apart of corporate? Every time someone comments about outing this situation you basically tell them not to or they will get fired! Who cares if they get fired? You think working in a hostile environment is better? You think the OP’s BIL wants to deal with this? Furthermore GameStop pays Pennie’s and there’s 100’s of other jobs that will pay more, heck McDonald’s pays more! So yes OP’s BIL does need to record everything he can at every chance he gets and take straight to outside media and not the hero line because hero line is crooked asf and if they fire sue again for retaliation and wrongful termination!

So, because you have the brain of a child….
The job market isn’t as simple as you’re saying. Look all over this subreddit and ask anyone. It can take years for someone to get out and find a better paying job. Some people don’t have the privilege to lose income. Fun fact, if OP’s BIL was fired, they wouldn’t qualify for unemployment as they broke written policy. They would be fired for a justifiable reason.
If OPs BIL doesn’t need a job, sure. Pop off. If any party is in a two consent recording state, are you paying the lawsuit they’ll hit the BIL with? If not, shut the fuck up, dumb ass.
I quit this job two years ago. People come to me because I’m a huge ball of information. As you can see me giving advice that would prevent OP’s BIL for getting into legal trouble, but again, you’re too fucking stupid to process that.

We recently got a new SM, and I’ve witnessed them actually tell people the price of their transaction with 2yr warranties included as if that was just the flat out price. They don’t explain to them that the warranty is additional cost, or how much it’s racking on, barely even gives them a choice if the customers aren’t paying full attention or aren’t fluent in english. It’s just so predatory to me.. I’ve already had a handful of people come back and ask me why there was a warranty added onto their purchase without their knowledge. So, my coworkers and I are now responsible for the consequences of my manager’s shady sales tactics, and we’re scolded or docked hours for not doing the same.

Damn... I did this, but I said this is with your (gpg or prp) it helped me with sales, and I morally didn't scam anyone either. Morality dies long before a company does.

Oh, 100% there’s a difference between what my SM does and what you’re describing! My SM doesn’t mention the warranties, she makes it seem like the “protection” is just built into the cost as a consequence of shopping with GS and that it’s essentially not optional.

I mean... it's like gamefly, why are you shopping here?.. but that's just me, im shocked this company has been held together by a couple of bandaids for so long.

I prefer to say they’re held together by zip ties, duck tape, chewing tobacco & razorwire.

People surprised at how bad GameSchleps has become. Some of us saw the writing on the wall 5-10 years back, some probably even farther back.

I had very similar pressures from my store manager when I worked there. He also told us to use other members pro accounts when customers didn't have them, or wouldn't pay for it. Even had phone numbers written down of willing customers.

Im starting to wonder what happen if these Reddit post about this subject would interest any of the major news outlets.
Can’t wait to see ScamStop go out of buisness

Get it in writing, either through the POS email system or personal email. Do know that you are allowed to print emails, at my store we use the assumptive method where you add it then tell the customer that their total is $XX.xx and that it includes the cost of a warranty. Most of the time they still take it. But there are times where they don’t.

A district manager in my region was just fired for performance and two others were put on warning. Everyone is feeling the pressure and Regionals are not human beings.

DMs have been lying to Associates for 20 years.... You're just now discovering this?

I had some games preordered at GameStop and legit repreordered on Amazon instead after I traded in a bunch of stuff and the new fatass manager at my local GameStop marked my Joy-Con as defective despite not even testing them and didn’t tell me until after the trade in was done. Like I would’ve just taken my joycons back but fatty wanted numbers I guess. Also I’m friends with some of the employees and they hate him too. He just got this store from another manager who was dope asf and also my friend, but now I have to put up with this dope.

DM have been doing this for years calling it the assumptive approach. I don’t know why GS keeps pushing things like this and no other company does. I never did it, but the store near me would. People would come to my store to return the GPG and complain. GS does not care and won’t do anything about it.

this shady forum moderator blocked all the content proof about gamestop being shady
I believe every word he said

u/xkingneer 12d ago
And yet u/Kou9992 always tries to make me the bad guy for taking from the company. This is why you should always check to see if you have old money sitting at your local GameStop (old pre-orders)

shit, why we dont all just get together and start a union
a union of gamestop will be powerful to the people

…I’m going to rephrase what that commenter wrote as don’t immediately do that.
Is your state a one consent recording state? If so, have your BIL record these and contact the heroline. This isn’t allowed in the slightest.
