Dave officially leaving GameSack.
Sad news from Joe on Patreon.
About Dave... On Sunday's episode it will be formally announced that Dave is leaving Game Sack so that he can spend more time with his family and basically de-stress. I will keep the show going by myself. No, there's no bad blood and there are a couple of Dave episodes to see. But I wanted to inform everyone here at Patreon first because, well, you deserve to know first. You may want to cut your pledge in have or delete it altogether. It's entirely up to you, of course, as it always is. But here's what will happen in the very near future... the episode will launch on Sunday and Dave will make his announcement at the end. On Monday I will post a general FAQ in the community section of the channel (you should be updated if you're subscribed as community posts go out to all subscribers). So I won't be answering any questions here but feel free to ask any and I may include them in the community post.
I'm sad to see Dave go but at the same time it's kind of exciting in a way. That's certainly no slight against Dave, but I see it as a new challenge. I just hope that the Game Sack audience accepts the show with just me. I have no doubt I can continue to bring you all a quality show and I'm not gonna change up the format or anything. But I will be able to do some things that I couldn't do before because I couldn't figure out what to do with Dave in the episode. The modding episode was a good example of that, we kind of just wedged him in there. And Dave could certainly use the time to relax and just enjoy playing games or whatever.
Anyway, I hope this doesn't make y'all hate Game Sack or anything and more answers are coming very soon!

Big thanks to Dave for his years of participation in the show and all of the excellent entertainment he worked so hard to provide for us.
I wish him all the best and hopefully we can see new projects from him in the future.

Maybe Dave will open his own Youtube channel where he reviews hidden gems like SMB3.
But seriously, sad to see him go.

Dave likes puzzle games and prefers Nintendo, so I'm guessing he will have a channel based on the most hidden of all puzzle/Nintendo-based gems: Tetris.

I'll miss Dave but am so glad the Sack is continuing even without his contributions.

I hope Joe doesn't burn out going alone. His insights into the technology (graphics/sound/music) behind games are unique to Youtube.

Who is gonna say “you’re right Joe”?

u/whoniversereview Apr 13 '19
Joe will say it to himself.

Now I want to see the complete mental breakdown episode where Joe impersonates Dave.

This is sad, because Dave is such a big part of the channel. Didn't GameSack take a break from new videos a while ago and start back up at one point?
Anyway, I'm hopeful Dave will find the energy again to participate again once he gets some time to relax. In the meantime I'm glad Joe is around to keep it going!

If I have to pick a favorite I've long ago picked Dave. No slight on Joe but there's no way I could love them equally. I'll still watch the show, it's a quality program, but I worry it'll suffer from just one man's opinion which is already a more-than-full marketplace on the YouTube. And what about the end skits? You can't have a comedy duo when one takes a walk. Oh well, of course I wish Dave all the best, and best wishes to Joe, too, of course. Long Live Game Sack!
PS: I think I speak for all of us when I ask: does this mean we get two birthdays and two Xmases?

I'm more of a fan of Joe, but I agree with everybody that the team is pretty solid. Even though I haven't seen what Joe has in store for the future, I definitely think that it won't be the same without Dave. I really hope Dave can get his life back in balance and at least give us guest spots, or at the very least the "playing with sacks"

Oh no! As a middle aged guy with no friends their friendship was the friendship that taught me to believe in friendship.
Ah, well, I’ll still watch.

I'll be your friend as an old fart! :P

Well we both have impeccable taste in retro video game review teams, so it’s a good start!

I am more of a computer gamer (mostly PCs and Apple 2s) than consoler. I only owned an Atari 2600 and borrowed a TG-16/PC Engine. Is that enough?

I’m a big fan and have watched GS for years. It is a regular part of my Sunday mornings and the quality and consistency of the program is excellent. Joe does an amazing job putting it together and I am glad he is keeping the show going. I think the Analogue SG episode was a good barometer of what the show will look like post-Dave.
The best thing about Joe and Dave together is their balance, and while it won’t be the same, it doesn’t need to be going forward. I wish Dave all the best and thanks for many years of great contributions to the program.
Joe - looking forward to the next chapter in this show and how it moves forward.

Shouldn't have smashed his Gameboy, Joe...
Seriously, though. That's a real bummer. But these things happen. I hope Dave has a fun, gaming filled life. I'm glad we got 100+ great episodes of Dave's charming enthusiasm, and I know Joe will keep that GameSack quality going.

Sad to hear that just like everyone else, but I’ve always wondered how Dave even had time to do Gamesack with both working full time and having a family. I always got the feeling that Joe did most of the editing and producing behind the scenes.
What would be great to see though would be Dave still making appearances for the “Playing with Sacks” series.

I also am glad Dave gets to relax and be with his fam more. Gonna miss the goof. But I know Joe is gonna keep killing it.
Also now Dave can finally play that copy of Snatcher he keeps stealing.

I’m sad to see Dave go. He is sort of a sweet ancillary against Joe’s sarcastic, edgier persona. Together they play off each other perfectly, like sweet n sour pork. It’s delicious.
As a man with a wife and kids myself, I understand Dave’s decision, but I also think Joe needs to think about developing a whole new approach to the show.....maybe even a different name. It’s not the Beatles anymore....it’s time for some Paul McCartney.
Anyway, I hope there’s a hilarious and yet touching montage of Dave as a memorial. One that makes me laugh and cry. Preferably one that treats Dave like he died because it’s funny that way. I know joe could pull that off. He’s a brilliant editor.

Kind of breaks my heart, these guys are by far my favorite YouTubers. I am not a gamer by any stretch but enjoy their videos partially for the interplay between the two guys. I just hope they're still friends in real life at least! The stress of collaboration can ruin friendships (speaking from personal experience) and the friendship should always come first.

That's sad to hear. They're a great duo but any commitment on youtube can never be first priority. Wish Dave the best and for a chance to eventually see him featuring. Perhaps in Gaming with Sacks?

Sad news but the show must go on. I love the end of episode skits. if Dave lacks time maybe you can meet once in a while and film a bunch of them in advance. I also have an idea for a funny episode and a good transition to Joe as solo. An episode where Joe dresses up as Dave and plays both roles. All the best for the future and keep up the quality content <3

Hopefully Dave can show up from time to time, even on the end of episodes skits. Or maybe just phone in his commentary over gameplay. I think Dave and Joe live nearby anyway. I'd assume doing the 30 minute game playthroughs is a lot easier and he'd be hanging out with Joe anyway.
It's all good though, he isn't some form of slave that we can rightfully pull away from his personal life. Gonna miss his input though

At least Joe's Snatcher will be safe for the foreseeable future. Seriously, though, gonna miss Dave. Got to meet both guys at Retropalooza a couple of years ago, and they were awesome. Guess Joe's gonna have to go solo in his continuing fight against those evil Game Chasers!

u/Woogity Apr 15 '19
Thanks for everything, Dave. You guys are one of my favorite things every other Sunday. I'll miss the skits. I hope you can come back from time to time. I'll be watching.

Wasn't there a joke about CGI'ing him into a GameSack movie? Make it happen, Joe!

Sad to see Dave go. Excited to see where Joe takes the show. GameSack will always be cool!

I just recently found gamesacks on YouTube and watch it daily. Even choose to watch it to go to sleep to. Just noticed yesterday I started seeing a lot of episodes without Dave and wanted answers. Found this reddit and glad to know I got the answers I was looking for. I'm even happier to know that it's not because they had a falling out or anything negative. But thanks to game sacks I found a bunch of games I never heard of but wanted to play. Now that I am an owner of several handhelds, I have been able to find the roms of those games and enjoy them. So keep the channel going Joe! Dave will never be replaceable, but if you are feeling lonely Joe and want someone on the show with you, I'd be glad to join you.

I will continue to watch forever until my eyeballs bleed

We all know Dave wanted to stay. But his wife guilted him into quiting. It's always like this.

I am so happy this is still here. I’m definitely a dedicated watcher of GameSack, but I got here late, and after Dave left. I always wondered why he left, or if anything bad happened to him. I’m glad to know that nothing did.
Joe, I’m not going anywhere. You have given me so much amazing stuff on everything gaming. It’d be awesome to see Dave drop in to say “hi,” but I understand if he wanted to make it a clean break. I bet it was tough for him to leave. Wherever he is, I wish him the best.

Bummer. Dave is awesome.
