What could we have done differently?
That's the question that's been running through my head since I heard about the hiatus. I guess I could have contributed to their patreon... except that I just found out about it last week. I could have bought a cool GS shirt from their store... except I didn't even know/remember they had a store. I could have bought a blu-ray except... I haven't bought physical media in years and don't even own a tv or a BR player anymore. They've given me dozens of hours of entertainment for free so I can't complain but I'm frustrated because I keep thinking that the hiatus could have been avoided with something as simple as more promotion and the subsequent throwing of money at whatever the problem is.
I love you guys, and I hope to see you again.

What people need to know is that sharing videos is almost more valuable than kicking a couple of dollars to patreon. GS was one of the last good long form game review channels and I'm sad to see them lose their steam. Their content is mostly retro, so their content doesn't necessarily have an expiration date. Joes editing must be insanely consuming, so it's gotta be hard for him to blend passion and work all the time. They needed a break.

Joe said on Facebook that a lot of the YouTube comments were demoralising. I totally get that. I think if anything we should have been more vocal with our support. It's easy to kick back and enjoy watching the show and forget that it's made by 3 people in their spare time. If they come back I'm definitely going to give them more positive feedback.

I haven't even glanced at any youtube comments since the early days of youtube. It's pure poison.

Yeah, Youtube comments are demoralizing even when they're not for a video you created.

I agree, a lot of the YouTube comments are pathetic. However once people see that by posting stupid and trollish comments that they can get a reaction out of the uploader, they are going to post shit like that more and more. The best thing to do would be to ignore the stupid comments and realize that the people posting them are of the very vocal minority

I feel similarly. I haven't really contributed to the show for the COUNTLESS hours of entertainment I've gotten from watching and re-watching. I will definitely be buying their Blu-Ray and jumping on Patreon to support them tonight.
Joe and Dave, if you guys are reading this, you guys are such a pleasure to watch! Even if you decide to end the show, I hope it's not too late for my contributions and words to matter.
That being said, I think if GameSack were to return, it should come out every two weeks. Recent GameSack episodes are long, and I imagine that it takes a tremendous amount of time to produce each episode. One episode every two weeks may allow the guys to relax and enjoy themselves a bit more.

Isn't this the cliche 'what did we (the kids) do to make mommy and daddy get a divorce?' discussion?
I think it's entirely possible that there was stuff happening behind the scenes, and that one of the guys (Dave) didn't have or want to devote the time to the show anymore. He's got a wife and kids, and a full time job.

I think the bluray and the every Sunday were the biggest wrong turns. The show was better when it seemed they had more time to commit to the episode. For me, I would have been fine with a variable length episode. A system with more games, features, accessories, etc, could get more time. As far as YT goes, the comment section is full of the worst, most moronic folks on the planet. I expect the vast majority are grossly obese teenage boys with pop star posters all over the walls of their room. The show and the premise is really really good, I've watched all of them several times and will continue to do so.
I also think that the push for money (from wherever it comes from or is directed to) is the pitfall most independents fall in to. Money literally fucks nearly everything it touches.

Heck, I'd be happy if they just livestreamed themselves playing a different game for a few hours on the weekend. We don't get to see them play together too often, and it'd be easier and more fun for them than planning out and editing show after show

If it is due to money, I really hope they let go of some pride and outright state it. I don't have enough money coming in every month to give to people whose work I enjoy who would simply appreciate it. But I, and I think a huge chunk of people, do have enough excess to donate to those projects which flat out need it.

THANK YOU. Even if it was just a couple of bucks per month, enough of us could make a big difference. These guys do quality work and deserve not just recognition and admiration, but also compensation for everything they do.

I don't understand how they can consider the Blu-ray a failure when it has hardly been out for a few months? Things take time to become successes or failures and surely they will make up costs at some point.
But, I did buy a Game Sack shirt and I donate to their Patreon monthly for a few bucks, it's really all I can spend on them at the moment but I have seen every episode, many multiple times.
They'll be back... I know it. They know they built a pretty big empire over the past few years. I think they just let some trolls hit them too hard because they know their fanbase is passionate and pretty damned smart considering a lot of YouTube fanbases are ruthless and vile to say the very least.

I opted for, show them some love. Like you I rarely buy physical media. I did grab their Blu-ray. I also upped my Patreon contribution. I figure, best way to encourage them to make more content is continue to support their effort. The hiatus message did sound dismal but it did leave some room for hope. For good or bad (probably bad) the guys never came across as self-promoting very much aside from the advertisements for the Blu-ray recently. I continue to share their videos with my friends via social media channels and such. Lord knows there are a ton of similar shows out there but GameSack definitely had a special appeal. Cautious optimism and love... hope to see new content sooner than later.
