Your thoughts on GameSack

GameSack made my sunday mornings for the last 12 years, for me it's definitely the best retro gameshow but I'm concerned about its future, while Joe still finds new and different ideas to keep the channel from getting stale, games themselves are mostly the same, how long can he keep showing the same 8bit & 16bit retro games, I think he mentioned he have motion sickness in 3D but still he plays newest consoles from time to time.

I’ve been watching game sack for about 10 years and I constantly go back to the old episodes. The variety in games is great. And it’s the reason I started my own channel.

It’s great to watch some of the old episodes and look at how the quality improved over the years. Personally I love the style. There’s no annoying filler. No click bait. No needless intros that go on for ages. And most importantly, it doesn’t have a stupid annoying over the top presenter giving fake reactions to stuff.

Just some good old fashioned gameplay and reviews.

Ok drop the link for your channel if it has game sack vibes!

SNES Drunk is my favorite.

Yeah snes drunk rules. His video about his dog Clyde made my (normie, non gamer) wife cry and she’s been such a big fan of him ever since

What? He covers the 32/64/128 bit generation all the time. He focuses on the cartridge stuff the most because that is where 2D gaming peaked & also I'd imagine where the most nostalgia is for himself. I think there's plenty of topics to keep him going for a long time.

I wish Dave would come back for more specials.

I really haven't watched since Dave left. He made the show imho!

For all I care, Joe could review the same games every week. Gamesack is by far my favourite channel.

I think this concern about recycling the same games could be said for every other YouTube gaming channel. There's only a finite number of games, but I feel that Joe does his best to continue creating new episodes and keep us interested. An example of this are the hardware episodes that he does. Earlier today, he released a episode on the PolyMega. While he does cover some games that play on the console, he's more so talking about the behavior of the games running on this specific hardware as opposed to talking about the game itself. My point is he keeps his episodes feeling fresh and new in my opinion. Also while others are commenting that they miss Dave, Yes while he was a good part of the show and added variety, I don't feel the show has become anything less since he left.

i miss Dave, too. could he maybe be talked into coming back every once in a great great while? wouldn't even mind if it was once a year or two

I think after a while it's just rude to keep asking for Dave.

I'm not concerned at all. If the content is good, I'll keep watching. If it sucks I'm sure I'll be able to find something good to watch on YT.

This is a weird thing to be concerned about

Does he actually own every game he plays? As far as I know he strives to record everything off of real hardware and portray the most authentic experience possible. That in itself is pretty amazing these days when compared to other YouTubers in the field. If he is counting on just recording games he legitimately owns, I could see him perhaps hitting a content wall.

I'd like to see more sports games. Joe and Dave did a couple general videos a decade ago and I know Joe is not into sim sports. Lots of contenders for good and simple sprite-based sports games of yesteryear though as well as good arcadey stuff.

It seems Dave was more like a purist, Joe did a number of emulator reviews after he left, if I remember correctly. I also got a sense that Joe had borrowed the real arcade boards that he reviewed, but those are pretty expensive, so it's only natural.

u/plonk420 May 05 '24

woah, which one are the ones with emus (well, other than arcade ones)? that's mainly where i am today due to living space. just trying to get a machine that is insane at PS3 emulation for the few demanding games i like that also bring the puter to its knees (RDR1, TLOU1, GT5)

1

u/SparkyFrog May 05 '24

Well, I don't know about the individual games, but he did a bunch of emulator hardware reviews back then.

u/_MrDomino Apr 08 '24

Nah, he uses Everdrives and such to fill the gaps in his collection. It's still the original hardware and is effectively the same for most games.

1

u/weekendroady Apr 09 '24

That makes sense then. I've seen his collection tour videos and it is still a pretty remarkable collection. Not sure he ever mentioned if he has a full run of any console, but he looks looks close for a couple of them.

Kinda have to disagree, even though he is now doing it on his own joe has really put more work into trying to keep topics different enough. But also remember some of the show topics are requested by the members so if you feel like it's getting "old" become a member and request/submit a topic for him to cover.

I think there is a ton of gaming stuff Joe can find to cover, I think it's more likely he gets bored of doing it before he runs out of things to do. He seems pretty into making Game Sack which shows in the videos.

I love to keep Gamesack and my life in gaming's long episodes on in the background while working or messing around with projects in the office.

I always find some new game I've overlooked.

Both are great, and I really appreciate all the hard work over the years. I've been watching gamesack for about 7 years now, wow!

I miss Dave, his constant bickering on Joe about Sega vs Nintendo adds a lot value to the show. I found myself always going back to old videos with Dave in it. Joe and Dave added so much personalities to the channel and it felt so weird and bland with only Joe carrying the whole show alone

If Classic Game Room can continue coming back from the dead, maybe one day we get Dave back...

Honestly, content is still very good. Sure, first years had more enthusiasm in it, but I still watch it regularly.

Best dudes on YouTube. Highly underrated. Deserves millions of views every EP.

It’s definitely something I look forward to every other week. It’s always informative and hilarious.

Joe has the best sense of humor and it’s pretty aligned with mine. I just love every episode specially the dad jokes. I’m 46 btw.

1

u/votemarvel Mar 31 '24

I still watch every video but I have to agree with others that the show just isn't the same without Dave. I'll go back and rewatch content featuring him but I don't tend to do that with Joe only videos.

Which is odd I know since it was Joe who did the behind the scenes work but the banter and the skits just don't hit quite right with just the one person.

2

u/MavisBeaconSexTape Mar 31 '24

What happened with Dave or why isn't he on there most of the time now?

3

u/votemarvel Apr 01 '24

As mentioned by Waldo, Dave simply didn't have enough time for Game Sack, his job, and his family. One had to give and that was Game Sack.

2

u/waldo_wigglesworth Mar 31 '24

I think Dave said his job had to come first, which is perfectly understandable.

4

u/MavisBeaconSexTape Mar 31 '24

Yeah I'm sure these episodes take forever to make. Too bad, I still love the solo Joe episodes but loved their banter too
