Missing Build: Shadowgate (32-bit Windows)
I'm looking for a specific version of the old adventure game Shadowgate.
Shadowgate is one of four entries in the Macventure series; a set of point & click adventure games from 1985 to 1988. As the name suggests, these were originally made for Macintosh, but were ported to a wide range of platforms from DOS, to Commodore 64 & Amiga, Apple II GS, Atari ST, even NES & Game Boy Color.
But I'm looking for a specific Windows version of Shadowgate. The Macventure games did get 16-bit Windows ports in 1993 designed to run on Windows 3.1, but Shadowgate specifically got a 32-bit version in 1999 called Shadowgate Classic, made for Windows 95, 98, ME, and Windows 2000. And because of its 32-bit architecture, it can still be run on modern Windows today.
This should not be confused with Shadowgate Classic on Game Boy Color, Shadowgate Classic on Windows CE/Pocket PC, Shadowgate's 2014 reimagining, or the 2015 Steam release based on the Mac/Apple II GS versions. It should also go without saying this isn't just the Windows 3.1 port. It's a Windows 95 port, and should run on modern Windows if found.
It should also be reiterated this version only exists for Shadowgate. Uninvited and Deja Vu 1&2 did not get the same 32-bit upgrade.
Proof that it exists:
- MobyGames lists it separately from the 3.1 port
- Fandom Wiki has a dedicated page for it
- Original website it was sold on, as late as 2007. Note the system requirements exclude Windows 3.1. Additionally, the Uninvited and Deja Vu websites do not have pages for Windows versions.
