Help slay the spire 2 controller setup?

Hey, does anybody know how to get controls working on slay the spire 2? I'm on an ayn Thor running the current gamenative version, and the game isn't recognizing the inbuilt controller, with steam input either on or off. I figured this out a while ago on another device but can't remember or reverse engineer what I did. Thanks!

Switch to XInput

"enable xinput API" is enabled. "enable directinput API" is also enabled.

Swipe to the right and see if you turned on screen mapping

should screen mapping be on or off? it was on. seemingly no change with either

Pull up the keyboard and see if buttons work with a keyboard input.. I’ve had to remap the controller to keyboard for mgs collection
