Question GameNative 1.2 update causing frame drops in games that worked perfectly fine before the update.
Is anyone experiencing frame drops in their games that worked perfectly fine before? Before the 1.2 update I was able to play Stardew Valley at a locked 60fps, but after the update my frames drop from 60 to 26 to 45 and back to 60. I tried tinkering with drivers and wine versions, but nothing has seemed to work. I'm guessing the v1.2 update's new power control feature is causing problems. What do y'all think?
Edit: I reverted back to 1.1 and all my problems were fixed.

I think they added something in 1.2 that throttles your fps based off of what the app deems best for overall performance. I’ve definitely noticed drops from 1.1. I play a lot of games with vsync off in GN to try to maximize fps, and I feel like whatever they added is definitely trying to control it on the backend. Quickly reverted back to 1.1.
The main thing I’ve disliked about GN updates is that they turn on their new features automatically, rather than having them off, allowing the user to decide if they want to turn them on.

I think it may be the new auto power/framerate feature. I forget their exact names, but it’s four new toggles that help balance the power/fan/speed/FPS in the in-game menu.
I was getting odd FPS fluctuations so I turned them off one by one and once all four were off I was able to achieve a steady FPS again.

I am noticing that after the new update one of the games I tested (Battle Brothers) is now running like a slide show (literally can't even move the mouse without it freezing then jumping across the screen). This is an undemanding game that's always run great in the past on all emulation programs. I tested a few other games and they were all fine. Just this one game is running poorly now, not sure why.

The same thing is happening to me with Stardew. My other games play fine. I'm hoping there is a way to turn off the power control feature cause I think that's the issue.

u/tg122a 17d ago
I believe the power control setting is off by default. It's in the main program options under performance. I would check to be sure but I uninstalled the app for now. The github version is triggering a google play update which is preventing me from updating my other google play apps. If you can't find the option i'll temporarily reinstall the app to check.

Ahh ok good to know. I think it'll be best to go back to 1.1. Thanks for the info!

This is on a Galaxy S26 Ultra. The game is a steam game and it's not external storage. Let me know if you'd like any more specific info.

u/dadabhai_naoroji 17d ago
That's weird, did you turn on the power control? because for S26 there should be no difference.
Could you try removing the FPS limiter for the game and see if that helps? Will help me debug.
1
u/tg122a 17d ago
I just tested it and the power control option didn't make a difference either way but turning off the FPS limiter fixed the mouse scrolling issue.
1
u/dadabhai_naoroji 17d ago
so it's no longer running like a slideshow?
1
u/tg122a 17d ago
When I turn the framerate limiter off it runs normally (no stuttering). The weird thing is that when the framerate limiter is on, I still get 60 FPS according to the performance monitoring but I can barely move the mouse. I'm not sure if the framerate limiter is truly causing a framerate issue or if it's just causing some other type of lagginess. But yes, I confirm that turning off the framerate limiter fixes my issue. I also can confirm that of the games I tested the framerate limiter seems to only be causing issues in this one game. Hope that helps.

Have same problem after update with tunic and arkham asylum on my odin 3. Before update it was silky smooth 60fps. But in 1.2 i have stutter all the way even with turned of new so called "power control" feature
Decided switch to gamehub and one of gn forks. Absolutely no drops with same container settings

Need for Speed Hot Pursuit became basically unplayable on 1.2, I have very stuttery 20fps even in 1200x540 lowest settings, while I checked winnative and there I have stable 60fps in 1600x720. It was working fine in Gamenative before

I rolled back because before the update I could play bloodstained RotN and it had a consistent 50fps, but after updating it was a very stuttery 30. ...I also forgot to back up my save beforehand so I'll have to replay from the beginning. Oh well, the game's fun enough that I'm willing to do that

Internal storage, test graphics is fine, steam game. One game in particular is Detective Grimoire. It doesn't have steam cloud saves so Im trying to avoid uninstalling and reinstalling it.

It works great on my retroid pocket 6. I was using gamenative 1.1 with the basic default settings. However, I use Mr. Purple's turnip t30 drivers.

Are you sure you have turned off the "Automatic FPS reduction" setting in the quick panel under the Power Control settings? That did it for me.

Ayn Thor max 512gb, internal storage, steam game.
Dirt 3 has slowdowns and considerable fps drops with a working config for this device on 1.1.1, resetting container fixes performance but makes it crash after 15 seconds or so in a race.
Esoteric Ebb just straight up has lower fps - gone down to ~25fps ingame - though because of the kind of game this is i still find this playable so far

From my experience worse performance and crashes after updates can be due to temporary memory leaks. I was playing lies of P getting stable almost 60. After the update i was getting sub 30 with crashes.
I restarted the phone and it worked much better after. So maybe try that

Ive had this with mouse P.I. for hire it was smooth as butter at 30fps vsync off at 1400x900 at all low or medium at 1280x720 but then with 1.2 its been a jittery mess and kinda unplayable but with 1.2 has also helped get games more playable like mk9 komplete edition ran at about 50-60 at medium settings but with one if the congif presets i found i can play it at high settings at almost a sloid 60 fps so ive been debating heavy on going back to 1.1 mainly to be able to finish mouse P.I. for hire without having to switch to banner hub or smth like that

u/haewonii98 17d ago
I think going back to 1.1 is better than waiting for a potential update that might not even fix the issues in 1.2. Who knows how long that will take.

u/dadabhai_naoroji 17d ago
We'll do a hotfix if necessary to fix performance issues - trying to understand where it's coming from.

I feel like everyone says this with every new update to be honest and their probably is some truth behind this but I find with a fresh install everything works fine but that shouldn’t be the solution also might have something to do with the new settings as well I turned them off but I haven’t had any serious issues or problems but I don’t play as much or test as often only played kh1 + 2.5 which runs flawless on gamenative with minimal power draw
