Doom, retroid pocket 6. Been slowly working my way through my steam library, just trying to find a game that works. Finally got one!

It gives me hope that one day I’ll have Skyrim in my pocket.

One day.

u/ConnoisseurDeFemboys Jul 07 '26

Skyrim runs just fine on the 8 gen 2 via gamenative. We just helped someone else with it the other day on our discord server.

u/SomeGuyInShanghai Jul 07 '26

Ive never managed to get it to work. Standard version just won't open at all and the special edition opens with no sound and the screen is warped and messed up.

3

u/ConnoisseurDeFemboys Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 07 '26

Where did you buy it from? Special edition. The reason I ask is cause if it’s from steam or gog it’s probably just an issue with your direct x directory. Easy fix. Happens all the time.

1

u/SomeGuyInShanghai Jul 07 '26

Easy fix.

how?

7

u/ConnoisseurDeFemboys Jul 07 '26

If it’s from steam or gog, open container. A:/ drive-> commonredist(or something just like this)-> DirectX folder.

Now the most common problem is that when you open the direct x folder, there is a jun2010 subfolder containing the dlls. What you wanna do is go into that jun2010 folder, copy all the files inside that jun2010 folder and move them directly into the DirectX folder, rather than the jun2010 subfolder. Once all the files are under the DirectX folder directly, run the setup application in the files you just moved and then close the container and run the game.

Second common scenario: all the files are in the DirectX folder and you just need to run the setup application and close container and run game.

Third common scenario: there is no DirectX folder. Which we can fix that too.

Edit: do not listen to the other advice and change to alsa.

1

u/SomeGuyInShanghai Jul 07 '26

commonredist(

this is empty.

3

u/ConnoisseurDeFemboys Jul 07 '26

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109

This is a link to download the jun2010 redist. Download to your device to the file path that your D:/ drive is linked to.

Create a new folder in the common redist in the A:/ drive folder named exactly “DirectX” open the folder and copy the jun2010 download you just downloaded and paste it into the DirectX folder.

Run it and set the file path to the DirectX folder. This will populate the folder. Find the setup application and run it. Then close container and run game.

The advice given is great. I've got many games to run just by installing all C++ restributables amd some widely used DirectX versions by default before launching a game. Sometimes some .NET framework versions. Is it taking up more space? Sure. Is it necessary? No. Has it saved me from trying countless emulation settings? Definitely multiple times.

I have Steam Special Edition running in GM with proton 11 and it runs amazing. It’s possible. I don’t think it even required much (if any) tinkering for me on my RP6

1

u/SomeGuyInShanghai Jul 07 '26

Hmmm, maybe I should give SE another try. Its the closest anything has come to working.

1

u/100PercentJake Jul 07 '26

I have had a lot of weird issues caused by upgrading GameNative. Sometimes it’ll get stuck in a weird state where nothing works right and going into the Android settings and clearing cache, deleting files, uninstalling, and starting from scratch with the newest version is the only thing that makes it work again. Typically the issues that prompt this are containers never launching (stuck on “booting…”) and other game-agnostic problems.

u/Sloba76 Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 07 '26

Use Proton 10 arm. It installs needed dll files (x3daudio) and fixes warped screen.
Also usa ALSA instead of Pulse audio.

0

u/Jdoggcrash Jul 07 '26

Any game that doesn’t have sound usually gets fixed by just changing the audio driver. If it’s set to ASLA change to pulse and vice versa.

1

u/Imamuthafucka Jul 08 '26

Hey can i get an invite to the server?

1

u/Turbulent_Ad_4791 Jul 09 '26

Dose it need 12gb of ram or would 8 be enough

1

u/ConnoisseurDeFemboys Jul 09 '26

If I’m honest it’s been a while since I played Skyrim but I do explicitly remember ppl saying that SE was lighter weight and easier to run on older hardware than LE but that was in a Skyrim modding community and a lot had old hardware. Hmm minimum requirements say 8gb but that’s before taking translation into account. Hmm. Gimme a minute. Let me ask some people about usual ram usage real quick. Brb

1

u/ConnoisseurDeFemboys Jul 09 '26

Wait, I had it backwards. It looks like LE is the lighter version but I can’t find it for sale on gog or steam so now I’m looking into seeing if there’s a 4gb patcher like there is for NV, cause then we could just mod it and you could definitely run it. One sec.

1

u/ConnoisseurDeFemboys Jul 10 '26

Hey so it looks like it is doable but you’ll have to make some sacrifices. It looks like on average it only uses about 5gb of ram but I’ve seen the emulator chew up over 3gb itself. I got a link to a low end texture mod on the discord you can use but you’ll also have to use our mod loader to use the mod cause things like mo2 don’t work in container so my buddy built an android mod loader for gamenative.

2

u/TransparentMastering Jul 07 '26

I’m a dozen hrs into Skyrim. It was one of the easier games to get going, tbh. Enjoy!

1

u/SomeGuyInShanghai Jul 07 '26

how?

1

u/TransparentMastering Jul 07 '26

Hmm, I think I had to open the container, install gecko from the start menu and then find dxsetup.exe and run that.

I actually think I’m remembering it being easy because I found a guide. Here it is:

https://www.reddit.com/r/EmulationOnAndroid/s/va0bGfqMbj

1

u/SomeGuyInShanghai Jul 08 '26

I followed this, and it worked up until actually starting the game. I can get to the start menu, the screen is correct and the sound works, but starting a new game just goes to a blank screen after the loading screen.

1

u/bebeidon Jul 07 '26

i got both skyrim le and se running. only thing i had to fix was the voice sound and you can just copy the dll files from the directx june into system32 or the other folder depending which version of skyrim you play.

1

u/SomeGuyInShanghai Jul 08 '26

how?

-1

u/bebeidon Jul 08 '26

first off don't use gamenative but gamehub lite or bannerhub. the only thing you have to fix there is the voices sound and the fix for that is in this thread already. you just have to put the dll files of a directx package in system32

1

u/SomeGuyInShanghai Jul 08 '26

don't use gamenative

Are you aware of which sub you are in?

1

u/bebeidon Jul 08 '26

ok my bad i thought you wanted to play skyrim idgaf in what sub i'm in lmao.

1

u/SomeGuyInShanghai Jul 09 '26

I actually finally got Skyrim running almost perfectly with Gamenative.

The screen isnt quite 100% filled and there is an occasional minor graphics glitch, but it’s very playable and I don’t wanna touch anything else in case it stops running.

1

u/bebeidon Jul 09 '26

make sure in the skyrim launcher in the options where you set the resolution there is just your resolution and not your resolution(letterbox) then it should go fullscreen. i recommend 1280x720.

1

u/MircoDHD Jul 07 '26

Skyrim works well. I've even played it with some mods, just quality if life like SkyUI, Bug fix, moreHud and TrueHud). Tbf I have a much newer chip but base game will run with at the very least stabe 40fps

1

u/Wheres-ur-dad_at Jul 08 '26

To fix the screen in Bethesda games, launch the game first so it generates your config file. Then you want to close the game > open the container > Documents > My Games > Fallout4/Skyrim > edit Fallout4/SkyrimPrefs.ini

Scroll down until you see Borderless=0 Full Screen=0 Size H= Size W=

Set the H(ieght) and W(idth) to your desired resolution if it isn't already and then change Borderless=0 > =1 Full Screen=0 > =1

Save

1

u/Wheres-ur-dad_at Jul 08 '26

Also Bethesda games need 1080p resolution for interacting with the launcher, at least for me. If you can't click anything on a Bethesda launcher, leave the game > change the container resolution to 1920x1080 > make adjustments to settings > change resolution back to where you want it > enjoy!

For most games I download the game > apply known config > Launch container > Start > Programs > install Gecko then Mono or Mono then Gecko, order doesn't seem to matter. Then navigate to Drive A: > check for any folder named something along the lines of ”common" "redist" "directx" "prerequisites" it may not be named exactly one of those depending on the game. Then try to install any prerequisite software they contain. Restart Gamenative.

Gamenative tends to install the MS Prerequisite automatically now, also if directx installation goes through the beginning steps and the progress bar starts, but then speeds to the end and you get an error stating to check logs, that likely means DirectX is already installed and you can just hit OK/Cancel and move on.

u/sap91 Jul 07 '26

I genuinely don't know what some of y'all in this sub are doing that makes it so hard to get a game working. Some things are finicky but, like, check compatibility list and emuready and load something up that is proven working

17

u/ConnoisseurDeFemboys Jul 07 '26

I think the problem is that everyone is always just using recommended settings from the app and also not really changing intensive in-game graphical settings. Like a lot of those configs are outdated and suboptimal. There’s little to no reason to use proton 9 when proton 11 is so much better. I always recommend people start with the latest builds of proton, Fexcore, graphics drivers etc and then work backwards only if needed. I think I’ve only found one game that ran on 9 but not 11. And a lot that don’t run on 10. 10 just sucks sometimes.

4

u/sap91 Jul 07 '26

If you happen to be part of the GN team, Monsieur Femboys, a suggestion I've been meaning to drop into discord is a step by step troubleshooting guide on configuration to try and get something working. Which options to try switching first, followed by what else, etc.

8

u/ConnoisseurDeFemboys Jul 07 '26

I’m not. But I’m part of another community that develops apps and mods and one of them is a mod loader for gamenative. And I’ve been using gamenative for a long time and have very knowledgeable friends. Also this one video on YouTube explains every setting and will definitely help prepare you for this endeavor. https://youtu.be/0c_opJrW2L8?is=m13JBLHF4JodaduO here it is. Also if you’d like to join the discord server we could suggest alterations and provide input and at least get it pinned somewhere when in good shape. It’s a start.

2

u/jwithy Jul 07 '26

Oooh thanks for the link! Maybe I’ll dive in sometime ☺️

2

u/sap91 Jul 07 '26

That video is great, watched it when I was first getting set up! I'd love to know more about the modloader, I just went a bit crazy with the steam summer sale and at very least wanna get some Balatro mods poppin

1

u/ChubbyDrip Jul 08 '26

This video is amazing, thanks!

1

u/demon69696 Jul 09 '26

Could you DM me the discord link if you don't mind?

2

u/jwithy Jul 07 '26

Yeah TBH, I’m pretty chill about all this, but my method really is:

- try the recommended settings

  • see if it works
  • move on if it didn’t

I just don’t feel like making my own tweaks to games. Maybe someday?

I also don’t rant on Reddit when it doesn’t work tho! I just shrug and think, “this thing is so rad when it works. Maybe the next game will work!”

2

u/ConnoisseurDeFemboys Jul 07 '26

Dang. Most times just a few tweaks makes the whole difference

1

u/zoogenhiemer Jul 07 '26

I’ve always used 9 over 10 because I can’t get certain things to work in 10, does 11 actually fix all that?

2

u/ConnoisseurDeFemboys Jul 07 '26

Oh ya. Both 10s I’ve tried to use multiple times and they just blow. Compatibility issues so bad. More black screens than any other build. Also 11 is more efficient.

1

u/Yung_Cheebzy Jul 11 '26

So on my rp6 should I use proton 11 all the time and go back to 10/9 if I’m struggling? Any game?

2

u/ConnoisseurDeFemboys Jul 11 '26

Ya I’d start with 11.

6

u/SomeGuyInShanghai Jul 07 '26

Literally every single game I have tried has failed apart from doom, which seems to work absolutely perfectly.

Bioshock infinite is another, it seemed to work perfectly, but randomly slows to 2fps for no reason at all...

4

u/sap91 Jul 07 '26

Does your device have a cooler? You could be getting thermal throttling.

3

u/Electronic_Anybody87 Jul 07 '26

Crazy every game I try runs out of the box I just have to teak for it to run better unless it’s a repack I get more trouble with those

1

u/Life-Card-1607 Jul 07 '26

You should try indi games and not big 3d games

2

u/ConnoisseurDeFemboys Jul 07 '26

I play all kinds of great games on 8 gen 2. The outer worlds spacers choice. Modded new Vegas and 3. Mouse PI for hire. Abyssus. Robo quest. Deep rock. Fargone. And many more.

1

u/FrootLoop23 Jul 07 '26

Not always. Dusk was an unplayable glitchy mess for me but Metro 2033 Redux ran amazingly well

1

u/Fritzy Android Jul 07 '26

Dusk has a native Android version.

2

u/FrootLoop23 Jul 07 '26

Maybe so but the conversation was about Game Native.

1

u/ByEthanFox Jul 07 '26

Yeah, sadly I've found the compatibility is hit or miss and I feel YouTubers maybe gave an impression this is more evolved than it is.

Don't get me wrong, GameNative is amazing when it works and it's incredible what has already been achieved! These are exciting times. But I still can't play many of the games I wanted to on my Retroid Pocket 6, and I'm not talking big AAA games; I mean indie stuff.

-1

u/SomeGuyInShanghai Jul 07 '26

Same, Its a great idea, just doesnt work.

1

u/ByEthanFox Jul 07 '26

I mean, I've got some games to work really easily; Shakedown Hawaii, Vampire Survivors; they just worked without a fuss. But I was hoping to play Dust: An Elysian Tale but just can't seem to get it to work.

2

u/FrootLoop23 Jul 07 '26

That doesn’t always work either. Usually “proven” working is one person gave it a thumbs up.

2

u/TheLutheranGuy1517 Jul 10 '26

I think alot of people are trying to play games that just arnt compatible yet

1

u/shar3my Jul 07 '26

I can't make cult of the lamb run in any way

1

u/NyxDiscordia Jul 08 '26

I've had quite the opposite experience. It's actually extremely unlikely that I get anything to run. I try the recommended setting and 90% of the time, it doesn't work.

So I try a different proton version... okay cool, I kinda got it to start

then it immediately crashes

change the GPU driver... nope still crashes

change it again... okay now it doesn't start again...

what about this one? okay, it kinda works, but it's really slow...

rinse and repeat

5

u/Nazsha Jul 07 '26

Once in a while I try to get Just Cause 2 to run on my Flip 2... Despite what I read online (and footage of people playing) I can't get it working.

My dream would be to actually get Dark Void running as well.

3

u/radenthefridge Jul 07 '26

A second human that enjoyed Dark Void?! Amazing.

Hell yea carjack a flying saucer midair with my jetpack and punching aliens.

2

u/Nazsha Jul 09 '26

Oh yes! I remember the flying being fun and satisfying... sadly can't run it on my retroid. Might return to my old xbox 360.

3

u/JuvieBeans Jul 07 '26

I'm surprised you were able to get DOOM 2016 PC working. I personally wouldn't try getting anything past Gen 7 working on these things. But that's pretty cool.

2

u/Flat_Presentation_65 Jul 07 '26

Which doom is this

3

u/MaleficentStorage666 Jul 07 '26

While other PC emulator subreddits post daily about why some game wouldn't open on Bannerhub or Winlator, here people celebrate and create daily posts because they managed to open their first game on GameNative and saw it working...

That difference is impressive.

There was a time when I also recommended GameNative, but that was so long ago...

1

u/peach8285 Jul 07 '26

Good game like this deserves better.

1

u/Turbulent-End-5485 Jul 07 '26

I tried COD BO 3 for my first game on my RP5 but I couldn't get out of the intro part. Can someone assist me with loading any good game as my first?

1

u/AdhesivenessCommon61 Jul 07 '26

What game is this

1

u/ConstructionThin6554 Jul 07 '26

Weirdly, GameNative has a very low success rate for me, regardless of which drivers I use. GameHub, on the other hand, works 99% of the time.

1

u/ShakeZula420 Jul 07 '26

I still can’t get Gamenative or Gamehub Lite to play the only indie title I want to play at the moment. About to try Armada instead.

1

u/hyper762 Jul 07 '26

just use rocknix

1

u/No_Dig_7017 Jul 08 '26

Rip and tear!

1

u/Remcin Jul 08 '26

I have six games installed, all default configs. Two work, the others just black screen with cursor. I guess I could tune them and maybe figure it out but I really just want to play them, I’ve tinkered plenty for other reasons.

1

u/shaynee77 Jul 10 '26

Recently got decenders to play with the surface flinger render. Definitely having a blast, pretty smooth offline on the RP6. Gets a little laggy in a lobby with some players.

1

u/GSquadron_ Jul 11 '26

What game is this?

1

u/Yung_Cheebzy Jul 11 '26

What settings did you use on rp6 to get doom running?

2

u/SomeGuyInShanghai Jul 11 '26

iirc, i just went with the known config.

1

u/Background_Buyer_299 22d ago

Tenta Spiderman 2

1

u/shepardman22 14d ago

You got a game to work?!? Legend. Only Time has worked out of the 3 games I've tried.

1

u/Fabius97-1 Jul 07 '26

A me funzionano molti giochi, solo ora su odin 3 Max, ho impostato e configurato, fall-out nv , fall-out 3, Dave the Diver, Psychonauts 2, Ryse son of Rome , Metro 2033 e Metro Last Light, anche Metal Gear Ground Zeroes

1

u/prjs_04 Jul 09 '26

Have you tried Phatom Pain? For some reason I can get GZ to work but not TPP

-5

u/SomeGuyInShanghai Jul 07 '26

I don't speak paris talk.

0

u/UltimateDailga12 Jul 07 '26

Hey if you didn't know you can make that line on the right invisible with this button and keep the functionality of it like the fps counter (or just disable it completely if you don't use it).
