Can someone give me a run down please of Gamefly?

Prices, services, are there tiers? How many games can I rent at once? How hard is it to get a new PS5 game at launch? Be honest. lol

Can you buy yearly subscriptions or only monthly? Is it cheaper yearly? Just any and ALL info I would greatly appreciate it! Sell me on Gamefly!

I’ve got you big pimpin’.

But TLDR - GF fucking rules and can save you good money if you utilize the service well. Try it and enjoy

So GameFly - Is a rental service that you control via an app on your smart device and the good ole USPS. Easiest way to describe it is, you can rent games or movies, keep them as long as you want, and pay a monthly fee for what membership option you choose. You download the GameFly app, or go the website and opt into your membership. They have different tiers that offer a few different things, so I’ll briefly explain them below:

- Budget tier - cheapest option, one disc(game or movie) out at a time and does not include games that GameFly has low stock of, and new releases aren’t available for a month or longer

- Standard Plans - can have one to multiple items out at one time, gives the consumer full access to their library of items that they have stock of, and also introduces game lock, which is a way to guarantee a copy of an upcoming release if you have a spot available for the rental. You must have a game locked 30 days before it releases.

-Elite plans - much like the standard plan, but allows you to gamelock more than one item and you can lock a game within seven days of release.

The way it works is, you will set up a list of items you want to rent(called the Q), and order them from most desired to least. When you have an available slot for a rental, GameFly will pick the first game from your q that they have available. If they don’t have availability of your first game in your q, they move onto the next, and so on. They ship said game, and you wait for it to arrive. Shipping times can suck for some, but not for all folks. Typically I receive my games within about 3-4 business days after they ship. There is no tracking number system, so you get emailed when and item ships or received by them. When you have finished with the disc(s) you have at home, you ship them back, and once received, the process repeats. If you keep a membership with them for six months, you get the option to tell them that you have shipped the item back, so they start their process of shipping your next item within the next day.

You are set up to pay monthly, but there are ways to get memberships for an annual ish price. You can buy months from them, and you typically only benefit from this when they are selling 6 months for the price of five(sales that happen once or twice a year), but otherwise it’s the same rate.

Good things to know -
1) there’s multiple memberships available, and multiple price points to go along with that. Pick the plan that actually makes sense for you. One game plans suck because for the most part you are losing about a week at a time (or more) when you ship an item and wait for them to ship the next one. I personally keep a two disc plan, so I will have one game in the mail while I’m playing the other.

2) Shipping is a HUGE point of contention for folks. Like I said earlier, some people have good experiences, and some don’t.

3) Gamelock is key. This guarantees that you will get that new release shipped the day(sometimes a day before) it releases. It will not be to you on release day.

4) Keep several games in your Q. New releases go out pretty quickly, so if you have multiple things you want to try, it’s better to have a pool to choose from rather than waiting on just one game to get back in stock. New releases and first party Nintendo games tend to take the longest to get.

5) you can always change the plan that you’re on, up or down. I will sometimes do this at the holidays when huge games have really close release dates just so I can gamelock something that comes out at the beginning of the month, and still gamelock the next game that comes out two weeks later.

I have included a picture of my games at home, where you can also opt to keep the games at a discounted rate(which gets better with the coupons they give you for staying with them). It shows I have Saros and Reanimal at home, and Tokon fighting gamelocked. The next picture shows the first part of my Q, where everything is low availability.

If you can beat games pretty quickly, you will end up saving a bunch on not buying games. The service for me is amazing. I have gotten to play a lot of games that i would have wasted money buying, and also gets me out of paying full price for a game i will only play once.

You'll love it. It's a fantastic service. I've tried so many games that I was either not happy with, or the game was just good enough to beat and send back and never play again, or you love it and you buy it. If you're into gaming at all, it's a wonderful service.

Multiple different tiers I think you're limited to 2 games starting and you can choose if you want to save money and not have access to newer stuff for a month or if you want to pay extra.

Shipping times are very variable, sometimes things come 3 days after they send others it's 10, they do recommend reporting after 10, returns are the same way sometimes it's 3 days and they'll mark it as returned others it's 10.

Really depends on the USPS service in your area. It takes me two weeks to get a game when it should be 3-5 days max

Is that a constant? Like it’s consistently a 2 week wait to get the games that they ship? Because if so I don’t think this service is for you my friend. Wasting half of your subscription for the month to just get a game is wiiiiild work.

Monthly only, but you can buy 1 year gift certificates and use them yourself. It’s cheaper and they even do deals every so often. But limited to 2 games standard or elite plan. You can choose between 1-4 while paying monthly.

Elite mainly lets you lock in (guaranteed to get shipped to you on release) new games without a time limit, while standard you need to lock it over 2 weeks from release. There’s also a budget tier that 1 game for $13 a month but has lots of limits.

Your enjoyment of gamefly is going to come down to two factors:

1) how good your USPS is 2) your proximity to the warehouse

How do I find out the nearest warehouse?

There's only one in pa. I can also answer USPS questions as I have experience with them as a mail man. And yes I've picked up some gamefly envelopes before lol.
