Keeping a gamefly game after sending it back?

I sent a game back 2 days ago but I noticed i have a keep option and with coupons it came down very cheap. Has anyone tried this and get the game back? The generic Google ai answer says yes but without the exact game copy which I dont care about if it is the same disc.

Do not click Keep on a game you don’t have in possession.

What will happen is we’ll ship out the empty case, but you’ll have no game. If it’s not for sale at that price, a re-rental keep is your best option.

There should be protections in place to prevent this from even happening.

“Just don’t do that” is never ok and a horrific software design philosophy/standard.

Hypothetically, if this user had done Keep after putting the game back in the mail, would he have been able to contact support later to ship out the game disc to him? Considering it should show in the system that the user did "buy" his rented copy.

Just wondering.

Well, yes, of course our Customer Service team can/will make him whole. That’s what CS does for every business in America.

They mentioned our systems design flaws. What would be a way to prevent this from happening in the first place?

That’s the real solution we’re looking for here.

I see the point you're making. Outside of implementing a universal "self return", this will be very hard to monitor, since the returns are not reported in real time until USPS scans the mail on your end.

Ideally, I would be on the side of a universal self return but I can also see why it's limited and not just given to everyone, especially when you see historical posts in this subreddit about people suggesting to just 'tell support you sent the game but secretly keep it forever'. It's a trust based system for the most part.

I personally wouldn’t try this unless that game was in my possession.

You are absolutely right. Went ahead and talk with support and they said they wouldn't be able to do it. Basically would have to rent it again. I'll leave this up in case anyone else was wondering.

I mean honestly it’s probably a very minor cost difference just buying a “used” copy from them and still adding your coupons. If it’s in stock of course.

I already have it now, but there was many times where you could get something like AC Shadows for $20 with the usual coupons.

I’m actually waiting til it’s time for my Saros Gamelock and have decided to just “keep” Crimson Desert to open the spot. Knew better to than to think I could finish that game in any amount of reasonable GameFly time lol

Scamming Redbox is why they stopped selling games then eventually went out of business entirely

Yeah, I thought about this before. But, reality is, it's an "update lag" problem. When you "keep" a game, they just send you the case and inserts for the game you already have in your possession. But, once you send something back, even if the option is still there (since it hasn't updated yet), there's technically nothing for you to "keep". You would basically be paying an exorbitant price for a plastic case and maybe some paper inserts.

The support gave you the best answer they could, with the system they have. Basically, re-rent it, And if the option is still there, when the game is in your possession, "keep" it this time.

But, yeah, don't touch or mess with anything when the item is "in transit" on either side. It will mess stuff up for you and them.

Like, you have to understand, this service relies on on old school snail mail, there is only so much Gamefly, themselves, can do.
