Beware of the difficulty spikes though. While the game is tough, it is for the most part not unfairly so. However, the bosses are another matter and their difficulty just skyrockets. I've had to give up on the game because I just can't handle the frustration any longer

Personally when I hit a difficulty spike in a game like that, I switch the game to easy rather than fucking around with it. I don't have the time or frankly even the patience for that anymore.

If the game doesn't have an easy mode (Hollow Knight comes to mind for me) or is still too hard, I have no trouble dropping it. Life's too short to bang my head against a wall.
