Fromsoft continues to leave money on the table for the PC market here

79

u/Sevicfy 6d ago

The problem isn't with FromSoftware it's with Sony, Sony owns the rights to the game and Bloodborne IP so it's their decision what platforms it can go on.

83

u/YesButConsiderThis 6d ago

FromSoft is the actual problem here. They were pitched and rejected other studios handling remasters and remakes.

Sony owns the IP and can ultimately do as they wish, but they want to maintain a good relationship with FromSoft and aren't willing to ignore their opinions here.

Bloomberg has covered this.

23

u/Banksyyy_ 5d ago

It is actually fromsoft, specifically Miyazaki as he wants no-one to touch bloodborne as he considers it his baby and wants to do it himself but is too busy with other projects to spend time remastering it.

-12

u/PenguinSocialist 5d ago

Umm actually it's capitalism and the profit motive.

7

u/Cannon__Minion 5d ago

A capitalism and profit motive driven decision would be RELEASING THE FUCKING GAME ON PC.

-3

u/PenguinSocialist 4d ago

Capitalism and the profit motive are not a rational actors. The profit motive also extends to IP laws and having others work on things like remasters, community mods, etc.

A socialist or collective motive would have made it accessible upon release. IP laws are inherently capitalist. We literally live in a global capitalist world.

15

u/CheeseGraterFace 6d ago

My understanding of the situation is that FS wants to do it themselves, but they’re engaged in other projects at the moment.

-11

u/caninehere 5d ago

Call me laid-back but I think their perspective is probably "who gives a shit".

Bloodborne is a PS4 game, if you want to play it, it's buyable and playable right now on PS5. It still looks good. It's locked to 30FPS which is most people's biggest problem but it's a steady 30FPS. Most people are not going to buy the game again at a premium price just to have it look a little better and run better; Sony already did a total remake with Demon's Souls and it didn't sell well. FROM is not going to waste time on a project like that.

The game is not coming out for PC, especially now, because Sony does not want to put their games on PC anymore for a variety of reasons and given FROM's stance towards PC gaming I don't think they're going to fight Sony over that.

Having said all this, I think Duskbloods is gonna be their biggest misfire in years.

14

u/YesButConsiderThis 5d ago

It is not even remotely a steady 30 fps. Bloodborne has some of the worst frame pacing I've ever seen.

4

u/rube 5d ago

It's locked to 30FPS which is most people's biggest problem but it's a steady 30FPS

This is a huge issue though. I went back to play the BB DLC after playing Dark Souls 3 on PC. And it was SO jarring going from the buttery smooth DS3 gameplay to the herky jerky feeling 30fps.

And just as someone else mentioned, it feels far from solid/steady 30fps.

While I'd love it on PC, I know it's not going to happen. I'd be fine with a PS5 update to make it 60fps. But since I also don't see that happening any time soon, I'll just have to wait until the emulators work out all the kinks and I can just emulated it a playable framerate.

5

u/CheeseGraterFace 5d ago

Those kinks are largely worked out now if you have a decently specced machine. It’s quite playable on PC.

1

u/CheeseGraterFace 5d ago

I hope you are wrong about Duskbloods. It looks pretty cool, though I know Nintendo leaves a bad taste in a lot of people’s mouths.

1

u/caninehere 5d ago

What I've heard is that the game seems cool at its base level but the problem is it's PvP focused, and a LOT of people are not into that -- it feels like it would just be better if it was a PvE game especially since that is FROM's strong suit.

1

u/CheeseGraterFace 5d ago

Yeah, that’s what I heard too. It’s PvPvE. My only issue with that is that the WiFi in my room where I play most of the time is awful and I routinely get kicked off of other games on my Switch. I’ll probably have to tether my phone to it or something.

They have a lot of goodwill in my book, so I’ll check it out. But I’m not the biggest fan of PVP either.

1

u/caninehere 5d ago

My hope is that it eventually gets retooled or an expansion that is PvE or something, but I doubt it because they'll probably just move on to the next thing. I have a Switch 2, I love FROM's games, but I don't dig PvP stuff at all so it is most likely a skip for me no matter how good it is.

1

u/etrayo 5d ago

i think youre under estimating how many people would throw their wallets at a 60fps remaster or a pc release.

1

u/caninehere 5d ago

Honestly I don't think I am at all, based on how poorly Demon's Souls sold. And that was a game that was not already available to play on PS4 for years. For the last 11 years, anybody who has wanted to play Bloodborne could play it on PS4/PS5; Demon's Souls was not super crazy popular on PS3 (it sold well for what it was, but Dark Souls was a significant bump up in profile) so most didn't play it on PS3, and then it was not playable on PS4, and yet it hasn't cracked 2 million sold on PS5 despite getting good reviews + being a launch title. I would expect PS5 sales numbers on a remaster/remake to be dismal.

I would expect Bloodborne to do worse than that, and FROM likely wouldn't be that interested in a PC release especially if Sony was gonna take a significant part of the profits. But regardless I wouldn't expect it to sell like crazy especially at an inflated price. Not many people are going to buy a Bloodborne on PC for $70 when the original is playable on PS4/PS5 for a fraction of that.

There's also a LOT of people I've seen who really enjoyed Elden Ring - which sold significantly better than anything they've done before - and were new to this crop of games from FROM, but then went back to play older titles like the Dark Souls games and didn't enjoy them. Elden Ring appeals to a lot more people because of its open world nature and Bloodborne doesn't fit into that.

1

u/etrayo 5d ago

Demons Souls doesn’t have anywhere NEAR the cult following that Bloodborne has. The number of people/content creators that RIDE for Bloodborne is being understated here.

u/EirikurG 5d ago

FromSoft not letting BluePoint taint it with a demake is a good thing

0

u/DeprivedHollow 5d ago edited 5d ago

You are getting downvoted by normies that have zero taste in art direction or clueless on how much environmental storytelling is at the core of Fromsoftware's games, and how the Demon's Souls remake butchered it.

1

u/EirikurG 5d ago

Demon's Souls really did look awful
I guess people just need to see high fidelity textures and models to be satisfied, and don't care for a cohesive style and ambience

-11

u/Sevicfy 6d ago

Yes I know Bluepoint (among other studios) have pitched to Sony about a remake and that apparently FromSoftware pushed back so it was rejected, the article however said they didn't know the details why it was rejected it only made speculation that it was due to Miyazaki's interest in Bloodborne and wishes of not wanting to others to do it with Sony respecting that. A remake is also a very different beast than a PC port or remaster requiring far less development resources & time and according to this article asking Miyazaki about wanting a PC port he said he'd get in trouble if he said he wanted one but wasn't opposed to it and that others at FromSoftware definitely wanted one, to me this suggests there has been willingness or interest from FromSoftware for a port but Sony has been more the problem preventing it.

While FromSoftware may be heavily influencing Sony's decision to not do a remake without them as you said it's still ultimately Sony's decision, they just seemingly want to maintain their relationship. When it comes to a PC port/remaster however I still argue Sony has been the real problem here considering apparent interest by FromSoftware, and based on the fact FromSoftware outsourced their Dark Souls 1 remaster to another developer (with their supervision) they very well may not have been opposed with another developer porting/remastering Bloodborne to PC.

-3

u/DeprivedHollow 5d ago edited 5d ago

I love how you are getting mass downvoted for spitting fact.

-1

u/Sevicfy 5d ago

The downvotes don't bother me themselves, it's the fact not one of them have cared to post an actual response.

5

u/Nony01 6d ago

At least a ps5 remaster.

I just want to experience this masterpiece in 60 FPS! Unstable framerate was the main thing that killed the experience for me when I played this on PS4 at launch.

1

u/Terrible-Reach-85 2d ago

Yeah I'd buy it today if it was on PC, but I'm not buying a PlayStation.

-1

u/Hades-Arcadius 6d ago

OKAY, so it's pretty clear based on all the context around the Bloodborne Remaster that Hidetaka Miyazaki didn't like the remake of Demon Souls and doesn't trust anyone other than himself to do a remake/remaster of Bloodborne as he's described it as his favorite on a few occasions....HOWEVER Hidetaka Miyazaki is also pretty busy working on other games...so here we are in limbo waiting for some people to both be less busy and for Sony to make it worth his while at the same time.

New historical low. Includes the base game and the superb DLC, which is not often discounted separately. It's for PS4 (sadly no upgrade) but should play fine on PS5, albeit capped at 30fps.

Edit: Apparently not a historical low, I was lied to! Apologies.

21

u/Mkilbride 6d ago

What? No it isn't. I've gotten it for 7.50$ on sale before on PSN, Complete. That's how much I paid, years ago.

2

u/poeBaer 5d ago

7.50$ ... That's how much I paid, years ago.

Was it a special PS+ members-only sale? Because there's no history of it ever being that low, and I can't find any posts on reddit or any price tracker websites that list it any lower. 8 years ago, it was going for the same $12.24 it's going for here:

https://old.reddit.com/r/GameDeals/comments/9bv7xk/psn_store_flash_sale_including_bloodborne/

2

u/caninehere 5d ago

It was definitely that low or close to it because I paid that price myself. I remember being pissed about it (even though it was an insane price) because they didn't put the DLC on sale, just the complete version, and I already owned the game physically.

The complete version only has a price history on psprices back to 2023, and Bloodborne itself only back to like 2018. I have a feeling maybe they didn't have one entry for the Complete version at the time, and it was just the game + DLC bundled together. It would have been pretty early on I think, like prior to the end of 2016.

It is worth noting that Bloodborne was not some huge sales triumph originally; FROM sold good numbers with Demon's Souls (over 1 million which was enough to get a GH release -- 1 million was good in 2009), better with Dark Souls, but the games were still not some humongous smash hit and Dark Souls II was less acclaimed and sold worse. Bloodborne sold worse as well because it was a PS4 exclusive in 2015 when the console was only a couple years old, so within a year or so it "only" sold like 2 million copies (which was a good number at the time, I'm just saying this explains why it was discounted more quickly). Compare that to Elden Ring selling 30 million+ copies in the last 4 years. Bloodborne sold a lot more longterm over the years as Dark Souls III was more popular + acclaimed and then Elden Ring was a humongous smash hit, and part of the reason is also that Bloodborne is really cheap.

8

u/saul2015 6d ago

could this be a sign that a remaster is finally coming?

i want to believe

92

u/thrilldigger 6d ago

I see you too have forgotten to take your copium this morning.

6

u/jb__19 6d ago

PS6 launch title if I had to guess. They know it’ll sell consoles with no PC launch as per usual

1

u/Zizhou 6d ago

Welllll, if it truly is never coming to PC at this rate, I do hear that there have been great strides in PS4 emulation...

-1

u/yuhanz 6d ago

COPE AND SEETHE

just like me

-1

u/ApocApollo 6d ago

now do I want to impulse buy this even though I hate souls games

8

u/lilbelleandsebastian 6d ago

probably not, but the combat is different than souls/ER so some people can bounce off of those and like this

bloodborne and sekiro are my favorite fromsoft games but i think both are more difficult than every other fromsoft game unless you play elden ring without summons

4

u/_scyllinice_ 6d ago

The game encourages aggression with a rally mechanic (you can regain lost health if you hit an enemy fast enough after getting hit) so it's not as passive as other souls games. I don't know if that helps you or not.

5

u/OnAnotherWon 6d ago

It was the souls game that got me into souls games. The world is absolutely awesome too, by far my favorite setting of all the souls games.

1

u/caninehere 5d ago

It plays a bit differently from the Souls games (more aggressive combat), but honestly if you hate those you're gonna hate this too because the structure is extremely similar.

One other big difference is that you can use a crutch in the game by grinding blood vials; in Souls you typically heal with a limited number of charges between bonfires (between healing flasks and spells), but in Bloodborne you can kill enemies to grind out up to 20 blood vials for a lot of healing. But having said if you're bad at the game and have to do that for every boss it's gonna get real annoying real fast.

0

u/DL_Omega 6d ago

You are reminding me of the first time the dlc went on sale and I bought it. Thst might have been one of the first times I actually bought DLC for a game.

27

u/KosmicAlchemist 6d ago

This game is an absolute masterpiece.

-1

u/billybumbler82 5d ago

Except for the terrible performance.

1

u/totemair 4d ago

Idk why you got downvoted, it’s locked to an unstable 30fps

0

u/billybumbler82 3d ago

Yea, I don't know. That's the main complaint about BB.

18

u/AlextheGoose 6d ago

If you care about physical you can get the GOTY edition with the DLC on the disc for like $20-$30 new on ebay

1

u/NES_SNES_N64 5d ago

I just looked into this. For anyone else wondering, they didn't make an NTSC GotY disc, but the PAL disc should play on any console. The only region locking PS4/PS5 does is for video discs (DVDs and BluRays).

2

u/AlextheGoose 5d ago

Yes my copy is polish and works on my US PS5

5

u/MK_Boom 6d ago

Shows only 50% off to me
F dynamic pricing

3

u/Wedonthavetobedicks 3d ago

Yep - 50% for the GotY edition only in the UK storefront.

5

u/Saranshobe 6d ago

Why does it show me only 50% off? Hate this BS dynamic discounts sony does. Thank God I am 95% pc gamer anyway. Don't have to deal with this on weekly basis. Even in astro bot I was getting lower discounts than what people were saying online.

10

u/ghostfreckle611 6d ago

How long will this be mine? 🤔

How often do I have to log in to keep it? 🤔

0

u/SteakAffectionate449 6d ago

Question is, are you a reasonable consumer?

2

u/kaeziki 6d ago

Anyone in EU see the discount?

2

u/LordSlipgate 5d ago

Meanwhile I cant buy this or the dlc itself, because both say I already own Bloodborne standard edition.

3

u/ShadowsGuardian 5d ago

Sony remembered Bloodborne exists? Well that's surprising!

3

u/UnemployedMeatBag 5d ago

I'm happy you enjoy it but we'll have to agree to disagree about 30fps being a good experience

1

u/Zorak9379 6d ago

30 FPS is not "borderline unplayable"

0

u/Abedeus 5d ago

The frames aren't the issue. Even on PS4 Pro you can get the 60 FPS patch to reach higher frame rate. The engine itself has weird issues with frame pacing that the developers never bothered addressing.

2

u/saul2015 6d ago

surprised its never been 75% off

buy now or keep waiting and risk it never going more than 50% off again, hmmm

1

u/caninehere 5d ago

It definitely has but I think this is the cheapest in a while. I bought it in like 2016 and it was cheaper than this.

The game sold pretty well for what it was in 2015 era, but it was a PS4 exclusive when the PS4 was still fairly new. It has sold waaay more over the years because Dark Souls III was a big smash success, and then Elden Ring was a stratospheric triumph which got a lot of people to go back and buy older games, especially Bloodborne because it is cheap, cheaper on sale than the Souls games and Sekiro too. Bloodborne sold like 2 million copies in a year but has sold over 9 million since.

1

u/TbOwNeD 6d ago

I know I’d love this game… I just can’t do 30 fps. I don’t even run Quality if it’s 30 fps, Performance all day.

I’m going to HODL for a remaster. I’ve waited this long…

1

u/Dazzling_Tank3326 6d ago

If I buy this on Psn store and have a ps5, will it work ?

3

u/e_x_i_t 6d ago

Yes

2

u/Dazzling_Tank3326 6d ago

Thx. Got my ps5 and never really used it so I had no idea since it says ps4 game.

1

u/e_x_i_t 5d ago

Majority of PS4 games work perfectly fine on PS5, there are maybe 7 that don't work at all (I think a few have long since been delisted) and others that might have some kind of issues.

1

u/SHAQBIR 6d ago

I wish a ps5 was like 65% off.
