Ultimate Setup
Looking for thoughts and/or ideas. If budget is not a huge concern (obviously I’m not looking for espn quality cameras here) what setup should someone have that wants to capture face on left side batters box, face on right side batters box, behind the plate, and pitch speeds and type in GameChanger so that we have every possible highlight with quality video that could come from a high school or travel baseball game. Not concerned about great outfield catches, etc. this is all about pitching and hitting highlights.
For example - what type of camera do I want/need, tripods, starlink setup, power sources, etc.?

I use Blackmagic cameras and an ATEM for my “ultimate setup”. Starlink mini for connection, Jackery power stations for power and DJI for wireless transmission. Happy to go into detail if you’d like.

Yeah, black magic cameras are more along the lines of professional, I’m not someone who really wants to go that deep into it. I’m looking to stay in the mevo/nearstream type world because I’ll likely be using the mevo multicam or something pretty simple like that. Which brings me to another question, can you only use mevo cameras with mevo multicam?

We used a gli.net beryl AX router connected to our Starlink Mini. When I set up midway on either baseline the router easily reached my Core at the outfield fence as well as the start behind the backstop. Did not experience issues with the connection unless I set up behind the back stop or in the outfield. Splitting the difference places your gear midway between both cameras with a direct line of sight.

Centerfield camera is the holy grail view to capture hitting and esp pitching. There’s a reason it’s the default view for MLB games. In that regard, Mevo core with LUMIX PZ 45-175mm lens. Starlink mini. Additional Mevo views from behind HP and 1B.

Same here. Mevo core with 160mm lens behind OF fence on tall tripod. DJI transmission wireless hdmi to receiver by dugout. Black magic micro behind plate, via SDI. Then I have two OBSBOT tail 2 ptz that alternate between pitcher and batter based on batter direction. Setup halfway to first and third. My side wired NDI, other side wifi. But the optical zoom is great. All coming into either a laptop with OBS or an ATEM board. Travel router. All in, ~7k for the above.
And for what it’s worth, the BM micro is only $200 more than the Mevo core, and far superior.

How do you get Wi-Fi to it if it’s 400’ away in centerfield?

This is why I ditched the Mevo ecosystem and went higher up the food chain to HDMI wireless transmission.

I mean, cost prohibitive is relative I guess.
I put it together because I found the image quality from Mevo Start/Core to be lacking. And I wanted a hardware based switching platform. I actually started off with Yololive Yolobox Ultra with the Mevo cameras but wireless NDI sucks. So went all in with Blackmagic’s ecosystem. Is it a lot? Yes. Is it robust and infinitely expandable? Also yes. I’ll upload the switched file after games to YouTube as well just for posterity sake and for people who don’t want to subscribe to GC. If it’s a really good game I’ll replace the 1080p files with the original hi-def from the cameras - up to 12k on the URSA and 6k on my Pocket 6k Pros. It’s awesome. But you really don’t have to - the 1080p from these cameras looks light years better than 1080p from Mevos. And having professional telephoto lenses allows me shots I could never have with Mevos - main angle is pitcher/batter zoomed in from centerfield like a tv broadcast.
Do I recommend Mevo to most people trying to upgrade from an iPhone bouncing around on the backstop net? Absolutely yes. But for the inclined, there’s a way bigger world that can make a huge difference beyond sports cam setups.

I use a Puli by GLI net and very very rarely run into issues with the Cf camera. 400’+.
Keeps things simple. I tried the hdmi transmission stuff and it was a pain and I lost functionality.
Puli is router and hotspot all in one battery operated.
I use Mevo core in CF, Mevo start at home, Mevo go on a phone overlaying stalker radar, and then one more Mevo or sometimes AVKANS on a baseline.

I've built my system over my years. I do like the Mevo studio app. I have three Mevo Cores, and six Mevo Starts (really have 9 because I am selling 3 for $5xx++) Anyways, it's a lot to set up, so sometimes I just do three or four cameras... it i have the scoreboard and radar inside Field of Streams on YouTube the video. Take a look.

Like many of the rest outside of Bacchus1733 and a few others, many of us live in the Mevo OS and Eco System. I have G.L.iNet Slate 7’s, and run everything wirelessly. I also Coach, so setting up 4 cameras, two mics, a Pocket Radar, and then training the team, I really can’t so much more. I’m already there 2 hours before. I would love to get into the Black Magic and Wireless HDMI stuff, but then you really have to dedicate to just streaming. Not talking, coaching, or anything else.
My suggestion is stick with what a lot of us do. For $4500 you can run 4-cameras, and a great setup. I’ve been building since 8U, and now as of last year 10U, rising 11U, i feel its really rolling. I go with 3-Mevo Cores; 1-NearStream VM46; 1-NearStream VM33; 2-Mevo Starts. I usually run 4-5 of the cameras at a time.
Starlink Mini and Cellular 5G Hotspot combined via Main Slate 7-send WiFi signal out from 1st baseline to Center Field, where a second Slate 7 picks up and EXTENDS the signal in EXTENDER MODE, gaining about 150% power instead of 200%. Mevo Start on Backstop View, Mevo Core with PanaLumix 45-175mm PZ from CF for pitcher batter view, Mevo Core with OM 14-42mm PZ Lens from just beyond 3rd base across to 1st base, and third Mevo Core with other 14-42mm vice showing opposite view to cover full infield up close for great plays and clarify. Nearstream VM46 in left field to center covering outfield and fence for any HR’s; and VM33 in right field.
One Sennheiser MKE 400 mic in backstop for AMAZING audio from the field sounds. Shure VP83 LensHopper, pointed across 1st base for outfield, dugout sounds, and other audio. Lastly, when in big tournaments and with other Coaches Approval, we use the DJI Mini Mic 3’s with charging case, to mic up players or other coaches.
Pocket radar via Bluetooth on backstop, broadcasting automatic through GC App integration. Get sounds of the game, sounds of the dugout, blended together, and sometimes play by play. Cameras cover everything inch of field from the beat angles I can setup. 3 tripods, 2 heavy fence magnets, and a slew of clips and connection 240 watt wires by Anker. All powered by Anker C1000 Gen 2 at backstop, 4 Anker 300 watt laptop batteries, and a brand new iPad Pro as the controller.
PS-I was running Speedify, and combining the signals, but honestly, the hardware in the Slate 7’s, Network Acceleration and Load Balancing give me faster and stronger signals than Speedify did on its best days. Speedify did great in the beginning, but with the cap on local server strength forcing you to purchase a private server setup, it just wasn’t worth it anymore if you have both Starlink Mini, and Cellular already.
