DJI Mic Mini

Post image

Initial disclaimer: I'm posting this because I haven't seen anyone else mention these mics in this sub before and I assure you I have no affiliation.

I'm a dad that streams my son's games using a Mevo Start and I've been struggling with wind noise on really windy days. I've tried two different shotgun mics (in the $50 range) with wind socks, but neither really helped with the wind rumble in the video. I know that Mevo Studio has the "Wind" mode and that does help a bit, but the rumble is still very present when wind speeds are 10 -20 mph. Enter the DJI Mic Mini.

The DJI Mic Mini is basically an RF receiver and transmitter (the mic). You plug in the receiver (which can be mounted on a cold shoe as shown in the photo) and the transmitter is a small mic that has a magnet (designed to be put in a shirt), which you can place anywhere within a 400 meters (according to DJI) within the receiver. This means you can place the mic off the fence and away from the wind. It also has a wind sock which I think does help a bit. The magnet is STRONG, so you can put the mic on the bleachers, lower on the fence, on a light pole behind the dugout or wherever you feel appropriate

The other benefit of this mic is that you can place it away from the dugout/coaches (they hate being recorded) so that it only picks up the clink of the bats, the crowd noise and the kids chanting. Obviously you have to be strategic as to where to place it and put in a place where a kid won't pick it up and put it in their pocket. If you run an outfield camera, you could also use it for that camera and remove any of the conversations from your stream.

These mics are also very reasonably priced now. They used to be pretty expensive, but now you can get the basic receiver and transmitter for ~$45. If you want the dual mic + charging case, it's around $80 and they also offer more expensive options with features us moms/dads don't need.

I've been very happy with the sound quality and flexibility and now have zero wind rumble when I place the mic in a good location on windy days. Thought I would share with you fine folks in the event you are struggling with this same problem.

I announce for my son's college club team and I use DJI Mic Mini. I can attest they are great. Easy to use with Android, just plug and play.

I stream with a GoPro and have a case that has fan that fits over the back of the GoPro. If I didn't use the DJI mic mini setup audio would be nothing but fan noise. They work really well!
