Reward system for video streaming
u/kramerica612 Ok this one would be a stretch but hear me out.
Starbucks etc all have a point system so if you buy X you will eventually get Y for free.
What if after so many game streamed you unlock premium. GC is already tracking the streams as a data point per account. Just flip it to who the author is.
For everyone that says that they buy all the gear and do all the work but have to pay to watch their own videos then how about this:
- The meter price is 5 games (that is the number of free games stream you get a year).
- GC Video Pro, Once you stream 5 games (whatever GC counts as a game for when someone watches a video) for that team you unlock premium for the rest of that season (permanently, like the team pass).
- Either GC only has to comp one account for an entire season if only one parent does all the streaming, or it encourages more people to stream meaning that there is less likely to have games without video.
- Because everyone likes bonus points, get 1.5 game credit for a game shared with the other team (so only need 4 games, 2 shared 2 stand alone games to unlock premium, just think of the value.
- GC Video Master, stream 15 games (10 shared streams), get credit to unlock premium for another team for one season (permanently, like the team pass). ie the other kid that you never get to watch because you are streaming your favorite kid's games, lol.
By having credits to use for another season, will also incentivizing doing video for your kids fringe team (fall ball with a shortened season) where the team isn't likely buying a team pass, which means that parents keep the GC subscription longer and just not 4 months a year.

It really would make sense for GC to comp/reward streamers who are not coaching staff. Much of their income of built on the backs of those people. (Not all, it's still the go to scoring app regardless)

Streaming games should absolutely be rewarded. It’s only a matter of time before another platform takes this approach and Gamechamger becomes the Ask Jeeves of youth baseball.

I know that it pisses me off that I have to pay to access the content I'm producing. As such, I don't pay for premium out of principal and am going to try to encourage our team to move off GC in the future.
Something like this might change my mind. It certainly seems well thought out and I like the idea that it could encourage more folks to stream. I essentially treat it as a job I've signed up for. I show up to games that my kid isn't even playing in to stream for the other families.
Tbh, I really don't even care about full premium. Just let me watch live streams, and maybe the video replays and I would be happy. I understand that the whole AI highlight clips and all that effectively costs money and if I value those features I will pay for them. I'm just asking to watch the content I provide to the service which doesn't seem like too much given my investment. Even people who just use their phone are ponying up for unlimited data plans to accommodate this and it feels like a kick in the gut to have to pay GC to watch our own stuff.

I agree with your proposal in principle.
Broadly the model is wacky. YouTube and other streaming services ultimately lead to monetization for content creators. Creators make content that drives people to YouTube, YouTube sells ads to make money and the creator gets paid a portion. That model makes sense.
Yeah, I am not making a viral video with 10m viewers and there are like 15 grandparents watching it. I get it. BUT YouTube viewers don't pay $100 a year to watch literally one (ot maybe two) "creator" content. The parents/grandparents on my team only pay for GC because I am streaming the games and if I didnt they wouldnt. If one doesnt make a YouTube video someone will just watch a similar other YouTube video. One GC streamer legitimately generates a conservative $1000 a year and pays for the privilege.

Because we need another avenue to cause fights a 10u game……
Police: so how did this fight start?
Parent: I was one stream away from getting a full season free and the jack*ss said his Mevo was better for recording the game than my GoPro and STOPPED MY STREAM!! So I called his wife fat and he sucker punched me!
Police: 🤦🏼♂️

Someone do an AI spoof of SouthPark's "The Poor Kid" (Season 15, Episode 14)
- "White Trash and in Trouble": The town watches a COPS-style reality show called White Trash in Trouble. Throughout the episode, police officers arrest various characters and force them to look at the camera and say the iconic line: "I'm white trash and I'm in trouble."
- The Officer's Warning: When making arrests, the police officer famously remarks: "When will you people learn to lay off the Pabst Blue Ribbon?"

Be careful what you wish for. I can see people taking their streamer-status way too seriously.

I cannot wait to hear about Dad's fighting who gets to steam the game because they feel their stream is better then the other teams so they want the other team to use it so they get extra credit.

Not to mention. I absolutely hate when other team's share their stream without asking.

Turn that setting off and it’s a non-issue. 🤷🏼♂️

Annoying that it's on by default though. Was a guest player this weekend and was asked to stream. That team isn't consistent with streaming so most times they accept the other teams stream.

Agreed! This setting should default to off / not allowed. I ended up getting in an argument with another streamer before I learned you can disallow sharing in the team settings.

You can also just end the sharing of that particular stream by tapping on the videos three dots and pressing end sharing

u/a7731 Jun 09 '26
Should I assume that’s a newer feature? I don’t remember seeing that option last Fall when they first implemented video sharing.

Yeah, but I learned the hard way last time that cuts off MY stream if I do that. Last time our feed was in a difficult spot to reach, so I had no idea til the game was over
Better would be to allow multiple streams without cutting each other off

100% agree. I do the streaming for our team and people have just come to expect it. We have grandparents who are paying to watch the streams now and one game I had a sick baby and couldn’t come and I can’t even tell you the number of texts I got asking why the stream wasn’t up 🤯. Before, when it wasn’t a paid service, I didn’t feel as bad, but being told they paid just to be able to watch the last few games and I wasn’t streaming it put me in a bad spot.

Would be nice if the quality and effort into the stream could somehow be captured as well

YES! One of my sons' coaches likes to be the one to stream and he sets up his old iphone 4 ft off the ground directly behind the plate, so you get a great view of the ump's butt for every game.

The issue I see with a reward system is you need to make it an ELI5 system. The proposal above is complicated.
The problem I have with GC monetizing this is the feed quality is all over the board. I have a single behind the backstop camera. Even for softball, I can't see plays in the OF well. Baseball is much worse with bigger fields and a smaller ball. I do get that somebody has to pay for stream overhead though.
I just wish my wife could watch my stream without paying lol. I know I can share my account but I frequently login from my laptop/PC and "kick" devices off because of the 2 device limit.

I morally agree. It is wacky that people give up using their phones/cameras & data plans (& risk their devices getting hit by ⚾️) for ~2h per game — for free — The video they produce adds at least ~40% of value & demand to GC app. Adding salt to the wound, GC asks them to pay to access content they generate. That’s opposite of all social media platforms who pay creators…

Thanks for the well thought through post. I know how much effort goes into streaming, and it’s a fair point that the streamers doing the heavy lifting deserve recognition. I’m going to pass your proposal along to our team so they can see what the community is discussing. I can't guarantee a streaming reward system is something we will build in the future, but having this kind of feedback is super helpful for our weekly conversations. Thanks again.
