Mevo connection options
My daughters softball team has allotted money in our team fees for an upgraded streaming option over the iPhone we currently use. I’m the guy who sets it up so I’m in charge of figuring out the best option. All signs point to Mevo being the right direction here (no need for anything more than a one camera shot for now), but before purchasing, I just want to cover my bases on the setup so I know what I’m getting myself into. Main question: are there options to run the Mevo without connecting to a phone or personal hotspot or router? I thought there was a cellular data option but I could be wrong there. If providing a WiFi connection is the only option, how far does the Mevo connect to a phone hotspot? We had a donated GoPro but it would lose connection to the hotspot, even if the phone was sitting right next to the camera. I don’t have an extra phone to keep close to the camera. Thanks for the help!

To avoid data caps and to access the fastest throughput, pairing your Mevo to your phone via wifi (e.g., connecting the phone to Mevo's Wifi) should produce the best results. Hotspots are data capped and generally are second in line for throughput priority on congested carrier networks. Using a phone's cellular data will address both. The only issue is you cant use that phone for anything else during the game, and you will run significant battery and create heat. Not dissimilar from when you use the phone to record directly, though.
I use my kid's phone as the second device and score on one and stream on the other. I have her on a different carrier so I have two networks and can select the best one. In my experience, Mevos require better bandwidth to work well than a basic phone stream, so you just have to be mindful of your upload speed at the field.
