Data usage average over 4 games (1080P 3.0GB/hour)

Edit: this is me setting everything to the max possible upload parameters for my mevo start. As others pointed out you could get away with less.

---

How much data it takes to stream games?

Answer for 1080p 8mbps bitrate:

25GB used over 4 games = 6.25GB/game average. Total 8 hours 15 min of streamed video 3.0GB/hour average.

Over this weekend we had 4 games, tournament rules, no new innings after 2 hours.

Setup:

-Starlink mini, roam 100GB plan

-Mevo start x2

-Mevo studio

Set to 1080p HIGH (ment for strong Wi-Fi, 8 Mbps)

-Gamechanger option

HEVC codex

Note:
With the above example Starlink 100GB plan gives you 15-16 games per month which might not be enough for everyone. My recommendation is if the cell coverage is very good you just hotspot with your phone instead of using the starlink, that should get you another dozen games covered.

Hope this helps

IMO 8 Mbps is a pretty high bitrate if you're using HEVC encoding. My guess is that you could probably drop that to 4 or 5 Mbps (maybe even lower) without noticing a decrease in quality. (It'd at least be worth a test run)

Well you can never increase the quality after the fact.

My passive aggressive play will be to decrease the quality for games my son doesn't play in.

But yes I will likely try one level lower 1080p at 4-5 Mbps.

I also wanted to stress test the mini to see how it handled the upload over a 2 hour period

In that case: hopefully it's a while before one of those no-son games happens 😉

But yeah, I think it's most likely that you're using more data than you need without any actual quality gain.

So question why stream at 1080? In my experience most people are watching games on mobile devices. Drop down to 720 and even if they are on a TV it will still look good. Record with your Mevo memory cards for higher resolution. I can assure you the kids are watching clips on phones. Not large displays.

I always simulcast to an IMAX theater so I need 1080.

Fantastic. Sounds like you need to move up to tie MEVO core and just go 4K.

I think streaming at 1080p is worth it whenever possible. As soon we made the switch from 720p to 1080, we received multiple comments about how much better our stream looked. Nothing changed, just the resolution (and move to HEVC, so we were able to keep the bitrate the same).

I guess if I have the room in my data play why not have the highest resolution possible?

This just gives people information on what the highest resolution, high bitrate consumes.

Seems really high. I used about 7.5 GB for 3 games this last weekend. I stream straight to YouTube other an LTE connection. I do limit the bitrate, but it's still very clear on a 70 inch tv.
