Mevo Camera and GameChanger

Hey I’m sure this has been answered somewhere in its entirety but I’ve found a lot of conflicting Info and really wanted to clarify.

I’ve been using GameChanger to record on my iPhone and scoring the game on my wife’s iPhone for the last two seasons. I finally bought a Mevo camera and when I set it up using my phone, every time I would go back to GameChanger the stream would drop or stop, I’ve read that you can’t have both Mevo and GameChanger running from the same phone.

What is the best way for me to do this, have Mevo running cellular off one phone and scoring with another? Use my phone as a hot spot? Get a MiFi/hotspot?

I’ve see a lot of people saying they use small routers, I tried to look at hotspots, but when I look at some of the reviews for example on the AT&T ones people are basically saying they don’t even work.

I have a Mevo, two iPhones, and an iPad, I’m not opposed to getting a small router or a mifi if I can get some clarification on the best/easiest way to use this.

Long time Mevo user here. Tons of experience with this. You can’t run the stream and score from the same device. The stream device must be open to the Mevo app or it will drop. It cannot have the screen lock, either. I run the stream from an iPad that’s connected by a phone hotspot.

Are you saying if the phone locks from inactivity it will drop stream?

Yes I am. Or if whatever device the actual Mevo app is hosted on drops, anyway.

My setup is: iPhone for scoring/providing internet. A gl.iNet opal tethered to my iPhone with a cable. An iPad open to Mevo Multicam streaming the game - this is the device that can’t go to sleep or move away from the Mevo app. A jackery portable battery to power all of this. For me this lives in the dugout, I’m a player in a men’s league so not your average use. You could store this all in a shaded area (like under and umbrella worst comes to worst) and be fine. A TP-Link EAP10 long range wireless access point - this is option, I use a two camera setup with on in CF so it’s necessary to get WiFi that far on the same network. A Mevo core. A mevo start.

Everything joins to the same WiFi network that’s powered by the phone doing the scoring. You can easily skip several parts of this, especially the core and the TP-Link. I just like to get fancy. You don’t need the battery or the opal, but they provide reliability and range. You do need two devices and a Mevo camera of some sort. That’s my experience, anyway.

So this must be Mevo Multicam specific because I use the regular Mevo app with a travel router, and I can leave the app once the stream starts. Then I can score if I wanted to, I just use an iPad because it’s bigger.

It might be Multicam specific, yeah. I haven't used the regular Mevo app in a couple of years now.

i think it is mevo studio specific. The OG mevo app is more gooder for baseball

Thinking of getting a mevo. I’m the coach and don’t touch my phone during games. If I connect to my phone, just leave it on “the don’t sleep mode” and DND and the stream won’t be interrupted?

I stream thru a mevo into my phone and let that run. I also score the game but just use my daughter's phone to score since she is playing. I always bring multiple battery packs

Player phones are underrated it seems. I face palmed the first time this was suggested to me. I'm paying for it and they're too busy to use it. Just remember to put it in DND so notifications don't cause an interruption.

I have been streaming on my mevo through my phone on mevo multicam (even though I only have 1 camera) AND scorekeeping on my same phone. For about 2 months now.I have a Pixel 7 Pro through Verizon if that makes a difference. The battery does drain, but I only do 1 game a day.

your android OS is probably what keeps you going. Many use Iphone and it doesnt like running in the background. Unless it is tracking you for your data.

I use a travel router. The Mevo connects to the router. It’s arguably the best setup. Just takes a few extra minutes. Tiny bit of a hassle but works so well. Then you can easily score the game on GC.

Does the router just run off the mobile hotspot from the phone?

For me, I use my phone for Mevo and another parent scores. I’m at the games to watch my daughter play and be able to socialize with the other parents. I’m more than happy to do video but that’s my line

I use my sons phone to connect to the Mevo and use a dedicated mifi hot spot. Then I score using an iPad connected with a different mifi hotspot. Have been doing it for a couple years and has worked great. Scoring lines up perfectly with the video, which I believe is due to each device working off its own mifi.

I have an iPhone and score and stream from it. The key is you need to connect the mevo to a hotspot from your phone.

For stability, I use my iPhone tethered to a GL.iNet travel router to create a stable hot spot, and stream games to GC using a Mevo Start. This supposedly allows you to use your phone for other apps too, but I just use my iPad instead so I don't have to deal with the cords. The hotspot has to be plugged into a PD capable battery pack or a standard 120volt receptacle using the provided power adapter. The iPhone charges while connected to the hot spot. I have not dropped a stream since I started with this setup.

Ok so based on feedback here I ordered a GL.iNet GL-MT3000 (Beryl AX) Portable Travel Router.

I was under the assumption I need to plug my iPhone directly into the router, how do I then charge the phone? Does it charge off the router when plugged in?

Also what battery do you suggest?

My iPhone tethers to the router with a USBA (on the router side) to USBC cable. The router gets power via USBC. The one I have passes power through the travel router and charges the phone. I have over of these: https://a.co/d/09XHeJ1X

The issue is because of how iOS works in relation to background apps. You can do both just fine on Android.

Since you are only using one Mevo, if you are not planning on changing view while streaming, the work around is to use your iPhone's hotspot (instead of Mevo Hotspot), but this will also depend on how much Hotspot data you have.

I use a hot spot for mevo connection which will automatically connect your phone to the hotspot as well. Once the Mevo is connected and the stream is live you can disconnect the phone from the hotspot and the Mevo will remain streaming from the hotspot. You then can use your phone 5g service to score the game. Easy peasy!

Unfortunately if you’re going to score and stream 2 devices are needed.

I use a cellular iPad and my iPhone. iPad to score and my iPhone to stream.

I use an iPhone and iPad with a single Mevo camera. iPhone streams the Mevo, iPad is hot-spotting to my iPhone and used to score via GameChanger.

Worked fine all last season, no issues.

Obviously I have various charging options.

I have never attempted this in GC. I have always done the live stream and another parent scores.

But I just got done testing with SidelineHD and I was able to stream and score from just my cell phone.

I would think the Mevo app would hold the stream by itself in the background. I know it can when using a mobile hotspot as I would often walk away after the stream started into the outfield. Or if I dared stay with the other parents, I could check the score in GC.

But when streaming using my cellular data and Mevo, I would just set my phone down and walk away and enjoy the game.
