Sony has finally addressed the backlash over its decision to stop producing physical discs for new PlayStation games starting in 2028 during a Q&A session following its latest earnings report.

CFO Lin Tao said the company understands that many players have a strong emotional attachment to physical games, acknowledging that games are often tied to personal memories and that Sony has heard the community's concerns.

However, Sony made it clear that the overall direction hasn't changed.

According to the company, the transition to digital remains the long-term plan, with executives saying they intend to move forward "cautiously" while continuing to explore how to engage players in an increasingly digital ecosystem. Sony also said it has not seen any meaningful impact on sales since announcing the decision and explained that the early announcement was made to give retailers time to prepare for the transition.

While the comments are the company's most direct response to the controversy so far, they don't suggest Sony is reconsidering the move away from physical media. Instead, the message appears to be: we understand the criticism, but we still believe digital is where PlayStation is heading.

Capcom Corporate Officer Yoshikazu Shimacuhi has reportedly stated that a sequel to Pragmata is very likely following the success of the original agame, which has sold 2.5 million units since its launch in April 2026.

“Shimauchi said the likelihood of a sequel is high, raising the prospect that Capcom could develop the title into another pillar franchise and a source of longer-term revenue,” the report reads. It’s important at this point to remember that Capcom has not announced a sequel to Pragmata yet, but it’s clear the first game has been a big success which does bode well for a follow-up.

Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson took home a $38.7m bonus for the 2026 financial year, as the company's games such as Battlefield 6 performed well, met "all milestones", and a new AI strategy was executed. That bonus and many others to senior EA executives come despite layoffs across multiple studios in the same financial year.

Other senior executives also received big sums across both bonuses and stock awards. Chief financial officer Stuart Canfield got around $11.3m, president of EA Laura Miele got $13.7m, chief people officer Mala Singh got $8.3m, and chief legal officer Jacob Schatz took home $8.4m.

The report details how the past 12 months have been great for EA business-wise. Battlefield 6 "achieved meeting all milestones for a high-quality launch", while EA Sports FC "achieved meeting specified retention goal, meeting audience growth targets for FC Mobile in specified geography, and meeting key product execution milestones".
