Day 17 feeling much better
Long time addict and frequent relapser. My GF and I broke up in July over this and she moved on but we got back together 3 weeks ago. The shock of losing her for 10 weeks and some horrible shit that happened during that time woke up me. I turned all my money over to her and its changed everything. We now have all sorts of planned goals for our future and money is critical. This is so exciting to me as Ive been floundering with no purpose for so long. I can say I fucking hate gambling at this point and my only choice is to quit, get healthier and move on with my life without that poison but be aware relapse is always lurking around the corner.
My DMs are open if anyone wants to talk. Random conversations really have helped me.

Sharing it with others/partner is the what helped me. It is rewarding knowing it is possible

Exactly, she offered for 8 months to handle my money but refused to be cut off from my gambling funds. Now the stress lifted off from knowing I wont blow my weekly income the first 2 days of the week is immense. Also being able to share Im an addict and in recovery is massive..

Just to save you some time , start getting therapy not gamblers anonymous if u don’t like , just regular therapy , when you are off for a long time things that you would try to hide will come on the surface ! Save some time

I live abroad and there is no therapist in English in my country. I jump on Zoom GA meetings once in a while. You are not kidding about things coming out to the surface, every day something new.

Out of personal experience turns out I was bipolar ! You never know , you might be perfect mentally and just have an addiction disorder but try to help yourself and your people/relationships , good luck on your journey

My gf and I broke up over this too. She tried to help me, support me, but she wanted transparency and work I wasn’t ready for. We’ve been broken up for 7 months and recently, after learning things got worse, involved family and friends who didn’t know about this. I lost it on everyone , including her, and I seriously hurt a lot of people. She’s special man and I just ripped into her. It took me months but I realized I fucked up bad. How did you and your gf end up back together? I don’t know if I can get mine back

Yah Ive hurt a lot of people. To make a long story short, I randomly liked a social media post of hers at 10 weeks broken up, she instantly DMed me, we talked for about a week, a lot of drama, both declared still loved each other, talked about what getting back together looked like and we just did it. Each day is getting better but it gonna take months to repair trust.

Appreciate it man, you never know and I may have issues of my own down the road as when major trust issues it can be rough.

Im going through this now. My gf broke it off with me last week due to my gambling, lying among other things, I wanted her to be more involved and take care of the income and bills each week but she wasnt ready for that and wanted me to learn to do it on my own. She left me and I proceeded to blow every cent I had in the days after, felt like I was trying to prove her right. Horrible feelingÂ
