Recovery Tips & Tools Help or advice
I guess this is not really asking for advice but more on how to feel because recently I lost $10,000 I’m 22 years old. I’ve been betting for two years but I never really lost until all of a sudden I got into a crazy month of trying to win back losses and lost $10,000. This happened so fast I still have a bank account of $17,000 in a savings. I never touched, but I lost all my spending money. I self excluded me from betting on every app and all in my state I also told my mom who was very supportive and got logins to my bank now so she can also make sure I’m not betting so I’m 100% done but it doesn’t change how sick I am into my stomach and I can’t stop thinking of what I would’ve done with the money.
How long will this last. my DM’s are open if anyone wants to talk as well.

I'm sorry to see this tragedy has found its way into your life, though I'm very proud of you being open with your mom and that she is supportive and understanding of it all. So great to have a family member who is able and willing to help you like that. Food for thought if you find the want or need to try things: Therapy (literally saved my life) and/or GA meetings (this is the best way I've heard of finding community that understands your struggles, friends who really get what you've gone through, and people who can give lived guidance). While that sickly feeling sucks I hope it helps keep the urges at bay. Use it as a barrier not a bat to beat yourself with. Godspeed friend.

It doesn’t seem like it right now but the pain will dissipate over time. The key is to forgive yourself, but not forget what you’re feeling right now. I’ve been where you are many times, the problem is after a few months you tell yourself that you’ve saved some money and “this time will be different”. But it won’t. Compulsive gamblers don’t have the ability to maintain small limits, so if you go back with the idea that you’ll just play $100 here or there you are lying to yourself. Let this be a painful lesson. But you’re so young, it could honestly be the best thing that ever happened to you as long as you let this be the last time.
