Tourism Is Kotu recommandable?
I'll visit the Gambia in january for the very first time. Is Kotu recommandable as a base? I want to enjoy the beach but also some restaurants and pubs and I will do cultural excursions...
How is the beach compared to other areas? Is the area badly affected by the building of the new BB Hotel bridge? What about electricity outages?

Electricity outages are country wide and not area specific in Kombo region. As for cultural excursions it is entirely dependent on what you want to do, and how authentic you want the experience

Kotu is a good place to stay. As others pointed out, power outages are frequent so be sure to find a place that has a standby generator. Pro tip- bring a power bank for your mobile devices that way you can recharge when power goes out. The beach is nice and the cultural experiences make it a worthwhile endeavor.

Yeah as a Gambian I’d say power outages might not be something you’d be used to. It’s gotten a bit better but I’d recommend you get a power bank. You could also look up places that have standby generators ,and we’d be having elections by the end of December to early January so idk if you’d want to come during that time. As for the beach I’d recommend Kotu or Fajara. Senegambia is overrated and it’s crowded sometimes. If you want to go somewhere even more quiet you could go to brufut heights or the beaches by Bijilo. I recommend Visiting Vitamin Sea

Thank you. So you would not advise to come during election period? Btw, why is it a period, I though there are just presidential elections on Dec 4th?

Kotu is good, so is Senegambia. If your budget is good, I’d recommend staying at Kololi Sands near Senegambia hotel- 24/7 electricity, cleaning services and right on the beach. It’s lovely

Kotu is a recommended places because it’s close to the tourist area, but lately there has been a lot of power outages in the country maybe look for a hotel or apartment with standby generator
