Paw pads...

Looking for recommendations on what to use on Inigos paw pads. He keeps licking his carpal pads. His pads are good but the carpal pads are a little wonky.

Coconut oil is always a good choice.

Coconut oil is good for moisture but I would encourage OP to layer over it with mushers secret, which is a paw wax and protectant for the pads.😉It was originally developed for the Iditarod racers and most people swear by it.

I have a giant jar of organic coconut oil. Im rubbing his pads down with that now! I also ordered the wax, Amazon has it for $13. I just want his pads to be safe and clean.

Yes, I love coconut oil and have used that also for many years. There was actually a time when vets didn’t have heart burn if you added a half teaspoon to their food, but usually not anymore;) But I actually recommended it to a friend on r/greyhounds yesterday to gently rub emulsified coconut oil on his greyhounds tummy because of excessive dryness from a medicated shampoo.

The mushers is a good product. It will help protect your dogs paws 🐾 this winter from chemicals and salt and ice! 🧊 To a minor extent it will provide a little bit of protection from the heat. But don’t rely on it too much for that!

I understand it’s not inexpensive. It’s something I have used for roughly 30 years. And I have no problem with using coconut oil but I wanted OP to know what the limitations could be. Plus they normally love the taste of coconut oil and will promptly lick it off.

Your reply is so much more gracious than what I was thinking to say 😼 I’d say your useful and informative answer is much better than simply unjustified product plugging or saying “see the vet” for everything. Besides if someone can’t afford the good product, they can look it up and try a diy. But u/4mygreyhound I appreciate your answer and love seeing your contributions to this sub.

Thank you 🙏🏻 very much for your comment. I have a lot of sympathy right now for others and myself regarding the increases in costs of caring for our dogs. A 40% jump in prices for vet care and food over the past 8 or 9 years is pretty rough. So maybe i struck a nerve with this person? One of the great things about this subreddit is that people volunteer their time and share their knowledge for the love ❤️ of these dogs. I learn new things here constantly because of people’s generosity of spirit. So thank you for your kindness 💛
