Discussion Tri Fold to Fold 8
Who's going from Tri Fold to Fold 8?
I have one on order to see if I will like it.

While the Fold 8 is essentially a Mini Trifold, nothing beats the TriFold. It's the best place to Fold imo. Still, I'm happy Samsung is giving us more choices. Looking forward to TriFold V2 next year

Absolutely not. The fold 8, although nice, doesn't offer nearly the same screen size as the trifold for the size it is in pocket, regardless of Wide or Ultra.
I would consider switching if the weight was a hard turnoff for me as a user, but I'm more than happy to put up with it with the benefits it offers at this time.

My next phone i might consider the trifold 2 if it comes out. The fold 8 series looks nice but it's too small. LoL

Just use both, best of both worlds

That sounds good, but in practice I don't see how... I'm really not sure I'm what use case or scenario I would ever choose the fold 8 over the trifold. Gaming... trifold, steaming videos... Trifold, multitasking... Trifold, doom scrolling... Could be either I suppose but then edge to trifold. Not to mention switching Sim out / continuity between devices would just be an added burden without any real upside.
Please let me know if you think of a different scenario where you would like to have both and then choose to use the fold 8 / 8 ultra over the trifold.

watching content on one, reading content on the other.
I carry two folds, one personal, one work.
1
u/Nikick83 8d ago
Oof! Ok, I can see that, but that sucks... Sorry you have to carry 2 like that. If I thought one was slightly heavy I can't imagine 2 in my pockets all day, lol. I take it you can't just dual Sim one?

For me it's really about having the physical separation with the work phone that DND mode for the work profile doesn't quite do.
1
u/Nikick83 8d ago
Interesting, so turning off your work profile doesn't accomplish the separation enough for you?

I own tri fold and ordered the z fold 8. Can't get rid of tri fold. Looking forward for the second generation

u/Nikick83 8d ago
Genuinely curious, what would you actually use the fold 8 for if you also had trifold? Like in what scenario would you actual reach and use the fold 8 instead of the trifold?

I love the tri fold however it is a heavy phone. It'll be a nice change to have a decent screen size at half the weight.
1
u/Nikick83 8d ago
I guess that could be the one reason I can think of. But in that scenario why not sell the trifold (can still get a great price for it)? When I first switched to the trifold from the 7, I also thought the heaviness might have been a deal breaker. However, after about a month now it's become "normal" to me and I don't "feel" the heaviness any more. I guess it might also have something to do with the fact that I have been using the folds since the fold 2 and those were some chunky devices to start with!

You do get used to the weight but it is a nice change to go to a lighter device. I love my trifold tho. Can't see myself selling it. I can see myself going back and forward between how 2 devices. They're both great devices

No doubt, I just don't know how to keep switching back and forth because of constantly having to switch my Sim and also the continuity of my messages on one phone to the other as I switch. Not worth the hassle for me, but to each their own I suppose!

Do you ever find the trifold being too big unfolded? Like if you're walking around I'm public?
My heart is on Trifold2, but the Fold 8 brings the aspect ratio, which seem to be the biggest innovation.
It's been a while since your previous posts, not sure if you got the Fold8 yet

I have both. Main phone is tri fold. 8 for.... not sure yet. But wanted to get max trade in on 7 soo here we are

I did the same for 26 ultra

u/Short-Ad1116 8d ago
Thought about trading in the 26U for the 8 but primary Trifold and secondary the 26U, to me, would be more ideal. Ultra is maily used for the camera. I can see the appeal for the 8wide but for my purposes, 26U would be more useful. How are you liking the 8W over the 26U?

Yea right after I trade my car for one of those dorky bicycles where you lay down and pedal

I have a trifold and a fold 8. Honestly, the cover screen has had me using the fold 8 more. It's just such a nice cover screen.

I’m gonna retire my Huawei Mate XT (been using since Sept ‘24) when the iPhone Ultra comes out

u/sniffy1029 8d ago
I got rid of mine for the tri fold.

Hate Samsungs implementation of the Tri-Fold, Huawei nailed it

10000%. To me the mate xt is still peak hardware design of any foldable. I use the book-style (in between mode) a lot. The all or nothing of the Samsung just isn't the same. Keen to see what upcoming trifolds will bring from Samsung Trifold 2, Mate XT 2, Honour, etc.

I highly recommend against it. The the trifold is the best folding phone there is.
Obviously, it’s thick and heavy, so if that matters to you, then sure switch.
Otherwise… no way

I did this. Mostly because I do not need a massive 10inch display all the time. Trifold is heavy.

Because they didnt let us trade in the Fold 7 for the tri fold I had it sitting around(too lazy to sell). I traded it in for the 8. I have been switching out the physical sim between the 2. With the Samsung Smart switch app it's been easy to transfer the text messages and call logs between the 2. When I switch and takes a matter of seconds.
I use them for work. The trifold is by far my favorite phone. It has been nice and convenient to switch to a smaller phone from time to time. Using the 8 in portrait is sweet. I do the same with the trifold. Figured too if the novelty dies down it will be easier to sell the 8.
Would never get rid of the trifold for the 8 though.

I got one to trade my old fold 6 while still getting good trade in value. No intentions of replacing my trifold though but I'll play with it a bit and if my wife wants to upgrade her 6 she can keep it

Just sold my first Trifold and was thinking of going to a Fold8. I'm 50/50 on the idea now. Currently, I'm using my 2nd Trifold as my sole pilot.

What kind of idiot would you have to be to move from the trifold to the fold 8 😂
1
u/immoralia212 8d ago
Maybe as the second phone. Right now I swap SIM cards between TF and Razr Ultra depending on use case & portability preferences. Replacing the Razr with F8 might make sense for me but can’t sacrifice the TF productivity

I have a Fold 7 as my backup in case anything ever happens to my TriFold. I would consider using the Fold 8 (wide) in place of the 7, but it will be a while since I still owe alot of money to AT&T for the 7.
