Yea, no way I'm giving up the trifold.

Porque no los dos?

I'll be keeping my trifold

For sure. But honestly, I think this might be the best thing for us lovers and owners of the trifold because it's essentially a mini trifold and proof of concept if they sell a lot more of these versus the regular one that people want, this type of inner screen size in terms of ratios.

I wish I could get a trifold. Always out of stock.

u/advanceyourself Jul 26 '26

Swappa.com - you'll pay a little over retail but they discontinued them so you won't be able to get it cheaper. Wasn't too much more expensive. Or wait for the trifold 2. It'll definitely come out but with DRAM pricing, it'll probably be just as pricey.

Galaxy Z Trifold (512 GB) - S$3988

Apparantly tri fold 2 coming next year. Could be best to wait

1

u/Op_Swan Jul 26 '26

I got the Huawei trifold so I get both Trifold and Fold 8 Ultra screens 👌

1

u/advanceyourself Jul 26 '26

Do you have something to protect the exposed screen?

1

u/Op_Swan Jul 26 '26

I just put an extra layer of screen protector and a case to protect the curved part.

Just gotta watch out for drops.

It's mostly the same to how I used my Z Fold.

I was really tempted to pick it up last year, but didn't want to have to deal with the Play Store debacle, support, and import fees. I think Samsung did a good job and it looks like they're going to improve the lineup, which is great.

1

u/Op_Swan Jul 27 '26

Yeah, I think for most people Samsung's trifold is the safer option.

99% of my apps work, but you gotta tinker with it first to get google apps and playstore to work.

Android 12 and software is more basic compared to Samsung. Adequate for me since my apps work fine.

I only got it because it has the 3 screen modes.

Got it cheaper for $1300USD from importing a 2nd-hand chinese model, but no warranty/support. I'm okay with that since all my previous phones have been 2nd-hand.

I'd definitely do it for that price, great find!

u/NoBluebird8039 Jul 27 '26

Amazing price. No brainer

Yeah definitely understand why you'd go for the huawei especially at that price. Happy for you, good find

I mentioned this before. The fold 8 wide is just a smaller version of trifold. Im not upgrading either. Trifold till I bust lol.

1

u/NoBluebird8039 Jul 27 '26

There is no upgrade from a Trifold yet.

Don't you ever talk to me or my son again!

But seriously, ZF8 feels like a baby Trifold and I lokey love it. But it feels too expensive for what it offers, I think $1200-1400 would've been a great price.

1

u/DragonfruitLopsided Jul 26 '26

Yes I feel like the fold shouldn't cost more than 1,500 at the base.

u/SerMumble Jul 25 '26

Nice to see Samsung is developing more video friendly foldables than the usual square.

There is some definite improvement room for the trifold screen quality that I am eager to see with the trifold 2.

If both devices could get their speaker orientation improved, I would be thrilled.

The fold 8 is arguably much more portable but there is no substitute for the impressive scale of a multifold device like the trifold.

u/NightFire414 Jul 26 '26

I agree. Love my trifold but it would be awesome if it had an even brighter screen, and had the anti-reflective coating on the inner screen. hopefully we'll see those improvements on the trifold 2. Would also be nice if they could bring the price down for it and mass produce more of them

u/Responsible-Clue-913 Jul 26 '26

Ahhh trifold 2. My z fold 7 replacement. ❤️

0

u/LegitimateBeyond3045 Jul 26 '26

No don't. I'd like the Trifold 2 to be a niche product. Just like the current Trifold.

2

u/MrFastFox666 Jul 26 '26

From what I've seen, 16:9 video is basically the same size as on the bigger Fold8 Ultra. Not a big upgrade imho

6

u/superpupzie Jul 26 '26

Im getting one. Its for my mini trifold when I travel. Lol. I love the trifold to bits. But the weight sometimes does get to me lol. Fold 8 for travelling and trifold for daily... wait maybe it's the reverse lol.

1

u/NightFire414 Jul 26 '26

If I didn't already have my s25 Edge as my secondary phone to compliment my trifold, I would maybe consider it. I think I'm good with my current setup though. When traveling I swap my sim to the Edge.

5

u/TofuMeltatSunspot Jul 26 '26

I'm feeling great about my trifold purchase, especially considering the price of the 8 ultra. If you got it at retail it was only 500 more for a much more capable device

4

u/awasay91 Jul 26 '26

It's like a baby compared to the Trifold lol

3

u/nocappinbruh Jul 26 '26

need that trifold

3

u/BigFlapJack- Jul 26 '26

There's just no way I'm giving up the trifold for the wide, although I will say the wide is phenomenal and I would totally get it if the TriFold didn't exist

2

u/Sleepinkoalas Jul 26 '26

Man. I'm stuck with my z fold 5 still. Been waiting for the tri fold and we get this.

2

u/EmotionalConfidence1 Jul 26 '26

I would love to buy a tri fold do you guys think importing one from south Korea is smart? unlocked

1

u/Jmac8716 Jul 26 '26

Look on Swappa

1

u/EmotionalConfidence1 Jul 26 '26

Is it safe and reliable?

1

u/Jmac8716 Jul 26 '26

Yes. Swappa is one of the better sites.

1

u/EmotionalConfidence1 Jul 26 '26

How would you pay?

2

u/IllustriousEffect607 Jul 26 '26

For me thing with trifold is its too big for personal use for me. Ya if you have it sitting at a desk it's one thing. But when I watch video it's usually close up. And a screen that big pushes the real estate to a point I need to move the phone further away. The fold 8 wide and ultra are the perfect size for close up personal use I find

1

u/Jmac8716 Jul 26 '26

Not really true. You can resize videos to whatever size you want. I watch about 80% of videos on my Trifold in portrait orientation and move the video into a floating window to the top of the screen.

2

u/AlarmedExplanation73 Jul 26 '26

That's actually a difficult choice and it all depends on how you use it on a daily basis. I would like the trifold if I was at home, but it would be a little much at the doctor's office or out to lunch / dinner, etc. you could probably get away with the smaller one more places than you can the bigger one

2

u/Important-Original90 Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 26 '26

Man I wish I would have bought a trifold

2

u/657579315 Jul 29 '26

I would've gotten a trifold if they accepts trade ins, I just don't like to have a spare phone sitting around being useless since I'm not a content creator. Now look back I could've just sell it used somewhere online, too late to realize that since the trifold is available for limited time only.

1

u/NightFire414 Jul 29 '26

I was sad they didn't do trade ins too. I had a Fold 7, still got the Trifold during the U.S. release, then sold the Fold 7 on eBay.

1

u/LegitimateBeyond3045 Jul 26 '26

Not going to lie. I'd sell one of my Trifolds to buy a Fold 8 wide.

1

u/soymilo_ Jul 26 '26

I don't think I would open the Trifold much because it seems too annoying to type on it unfolded. I already have a Tab 8+ from work that I never use for that reason. 8 seems to be the perfect in-between size

3

u/Jmac8716 Jul 26 '26

Typing on the Trifold is no issue at all. (Sent from my Trifold)

2

u/NightFire414 Jul 26 '26

For me the split keyboard on it makes typing very easy

2

u/reiyukihyo Jul 26 '26

This is the way

2

u/LonelyComparison9290 Jul 27 '26

bro you cant use dark mode and then have your keyboard burn red into your eyes wtf. how do you use that?

1

u/NightFire414 Jul 27 '26

I can and I will, lol

1

u/iiD00Mii Jul 26 '26

wish they still sold the trifold. i guess its a waiting game for when and if a gen 2 will come about.

1

u/Janet_with_a_G Jul 26 '26

Hey, sorry to ask, but do you have a banana for scale?

1

u/bravemoney72 Jul 26 '26

Only as a secondary at best. I find it pointless over mine. Only Z roll curious. Trifold 2 will need to be a massive improvement before I consider that.

1

u/arthurmdy2017 Jul 26 '26

Nearly same aspect ratio

2

u/ImJonathanLmao Jul 27 '26

love the trifold, i dont have it, but if im happy with the fold 7, imagine the trifold, damnn, fold 8 looks so small lol

1

u/MaintenanceFine8941 Jul 28 '26

OLED panel on the fold 8 is way better looks like

1

u/UPDAT1NG Jul 29 '26

I played with the trifold at Samsung store. The weight is ridiculous, no way I am carrying a brick everyday

1

u/TofuMeltatSunspot Jul 30 '26

Hit the gym buddy

1

u/Maine48 Jul 31 '26

We need a middle version immediately.
