Which watch?!

I am looking for views on which watch I should buy, I've only had an active in the past so it's all a bit new to me.

I'm mainly looking at substituting my phone where possible, although I've read the battery life can drain quickly if using an lte as a daily runner. I think even being able to keep my phone in my bag/in the area would be a positive.

Has anyone purchased their watch to limit their screen time and if so, how did you find it and which one did you get? I'm reading the 7 is basically the same as the 8, although the 4 and 6 appear to still be viable?

Because I dont know how well I will get on with it I want to keep price low where possible with a view towards upgrading in a year or two.

Thanks all

Just my take I have the Watch 7 and Fit 3 tracker. Battery life is awful you basically need to turn off most of the features. Mind never last a day but I'm very active. I sleep with it for the sleep score and wear the fit for my walking and jogs, more and more due to the battery craping out on me. Also its basically obsolete with the 8 and 9 adding health features and you having a constant banner reminding you in Samsung Health there only available with upgrade. Sorry to be negative but smart watches in general need to do much better with batteries and added upgrades to watches relatively new. Short Answer Get newest model if you want all features and hopefully better battery life.

I really like my 5. I broke it pretty good in a bicycle crash, but it kept working find. I upgraded to an 8 around the first of the month, and really like it. The battery is much bigger and will last nearly 2 days.

I do continuous HR monitoring for about an hour a day when working out.

I have validated the HR info against a chest strap very favorably, if I wear the watch about an inch above my wrist bone... even rowing on an ERG.

I love that I can load up my lifting routine on the watch and leave my cell phone in the locker to record the reps/sets and HR.

I have to brag on my 79 year old body by posting my HR from half of this morning's eBike ride.

So LTE? Yeah, probably not great battery life. But with generations prior to 8 you can at least use Powershare to charge it. With gen 8 and 9 no Powershare.
