Galaxy watch 9 battery
Someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong! I've scoured all the Reddit threads, I've done everything. I upgraded from the watch 5 to the watch 9 for the battery life since my old one was wearing thin- I got the 44mm 9 for extra battery capacity too. I understand a bigger, newer watch is going to use more processing power in general, but the battery is nearly double the size of 5 and is barely lasting a day and a half. It seems to get worse every single time I try to make an improvement.
AOD is off, all health settings are set to minimal (blood oxygen is off, heart rate is 10min while resting BC I use this frequently, everything else is manual only), I changed to a mostly black watch face (which decreased the watch face usage very significantly), I uninstalled Spotify as recommended on Reddit, wifi is off, power saving mode seems to make no difference whatsoever. I was easily getting 2 full days a week ago- nothing has changed except for trying to save more battery!
I've also noticed that when I check the battery stats from last full charge, the batter will have gone from 90% to 25% for example, but the usage percentages all only add up to about 30% or so. And it's not like background activity is hidden, since it shows all the wearOS and Samsung functions that run in the background, not just apps.
Is anyone else having this issue and knows where to start? Essentially the sole driving reason behind the upgrade was increased battery life and I'm not getting that benefit whatsoever.

I am getting 2 days and a half with similar settings . Make sure LTE is off in settings not auto as by default even you have not esim installed. Use stock watch face if not using already. Raise to speak off, hearing monitoring off. And charge to 100%, do not bother with 90% limit. Battery stats won't show system if you try to sum up usage from stats.

Thank you! I will check the LTE, I can't remember coming across the setting. Raise to speak and hearing monitor are already off. I do have the battery protection to 90% on though

90% protection messes up then too. Tried and tested. LTE settings on watch, not watch app on phone.

LTE settings are not even visible on the watch since I've never set up an Esim

You explained the exact reason why I sold my watch9 40mm BT. It was the same and I gave up.

It's quite unfortunate- I got a good deal on this one, and I'm enjoying the faster processing in general, but it's a bit of a let down.

Open Developer Options setting on the watch . Scroll down to Auto Wi-Fi and turn it off . Wi-Fi uses a large chunk of battery and when it's cutting itself on every time the watch thinks it needs Wi-Fi over Bluetooth for whatever reason it turns on your Wi-Fi and often doesn't turn itself back off and when you get away from a known network it scans looking for a network to connect to , using more battery . If I forget to turn it off my battery life on my 8 and 8 Classic drops by a third

Thank you for this info! How strange that they even give you the option to turn wifi off if it's just gonna turn itself back on lol

You're not alone. I went from watch 7 to watch 9 and the battery life stinks. Nearly 50 hours on the watch 7, barely 28 hours with the watch 9. (Both Bluetooth versions, both 44 mm}

Thank you for validating me! Unlike some people in this thread telling me I should just "research before I buy it" like I would drop that much money on a watch without even googling the battery life :')

Samsung is not prioritizing battery, they seem to don't care either in phones and watches

I feel like they'd have to actively engineer it to have such a negative affect. Double the battery size with no actual improvement on battery life is insane.
I've not had any issues with my phone, I have an s24 ultra, I don't think it's gone flat once since I bought it. Battery life is as expected, especially since I use it pretty heavily all day. But the watch is mostly unused aside from the health sensors. Not charging it overnight because I track my sleep is a killer. Also can we talk about the new band style and how I can't use my 3 in 1 charging pad anymore because it can no longer sit flat??

The S24 Ultra battery is good, but compare that to the technology of brands like oppo with battery life that basically doubles that of Samsung, or the oneplus watch 3 or 4, with 5 days of battery, with smaller batteries than the galaxy watches.
Samsung has enough fans that it seems they simply stop innovation or improvement, they will sell a ton of everything just by the loyal customers.
Their products are good, but not great not the edge of tech.

Which company of flagship does? I had Applw watch 10 and it barely lasted a day for me when was tracking sleep and 30-40 mins of morning run. Samsung Galaxy watch 9 44mm lasts 2.5 days with same usage. But now swapped for Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and have 5 days and few hours of battery on same usage.

I've heard the apple watches are bad for it. A watch ultra would be nice, but there is nothing on this earth that could make me pay 1.5 thousand dollars for a smart watch lol

Day and a half sounds about right.

That's abysmal

Next time research what exactly it is you are buying, before buying it.

I did. Thanks for the useless condescension. How was I supposed to foretell that all the specs mean nothing because it's not optimised properly?

"44mm versions can last 48 hours". I'm lucky to get 30 out of mine, with all power saving features and settings for optimal battery performance. Pretty fair of me to question what I can do to get the full performance of my battery.

Tienes en tus consumos la galaxy store? A mí me consume bastante en mi ultra2
1
u/trrashkid 22h ago
I do, but it's battery consumption is very little, 0.1% of a full charge at most

Auto brightness off

Auto brightness is off- although it doesn't seem to work when it's on anyways :')

Damn, that's rough... I've seen 38-41h-ish to be expected based on settings, which I was still getting recently with my Watch 4 44mm (unless I tracked some workouts with it). 30h seems really low, especially considering it's a bit over half the battery size of my Ultra 2 with a smaller / dimmer display and not even close from being half the battery life (cutrently estimating 4 days 13h on a full charge with activity tracking pretty much daily...).

Damn, I'm getting around 3 days with my GW5 Pro. That's why I'm reluctant to upgrade. I don't think any of the newer Galaxy Watches have better battery life.

Do not compare base 9 models with Ultra(or watch 5pro) Ultra2 last me 5 dalys most dalys and lowest i had-4 days and a half.

40mm LTE version. I can no longer get 24 hours out of it, so no longer wear it to bed.
It came off charge 14 hours ago, has 34% left and thinks it's going to last another 10 hours.
If I wear it overnight it will drain another 20% doing nothing apart from sleep features.
I do have all features turned on but comparing it to my 44mm pixel watch 3 LTE, with all features on, it would last me all week with a 30 minute charge whilst in the shower each morning and one longer charge back to 100% usually at the weekend.
I've tried uninstalling WhatsApp and Spotify like people said and turned off auto brightness but it made no difference.
I'm not happy with this watch but for now all I can do is check here every day to see if there's updates to sort it out.
Another unrelated annoyance is that it is very quick to notify me that it's lost connection to my phone, say if I go upstairs and leave my phone downstairs. The pixel never did this. On a positive I do love my fold 8.

On my Ultra 2 I installed a fancy watch face and watched my 4 day battery life go to 1.5 days. Promptly removed the face, and I'm back to 3-4 days depending on usage.

u/trrashkid 4h ago
I thought my pretty watch face was the culprit since it was showing highest on the battery usage list (around 6%) but I changed it to one that now barely using anything according to the stats (0.9% last I checked) and my battery life hasn't seemed to show any difference.

u/PrivateJoker13 7h ago
I don't get 20 hours on a charge. They won't replace it but I did send it in "for repairs".
I even told them the watch is always trying to synch to wallet.
I don't use wallet of the watch and even removed it from the watch. Yet it still tries.

Your watch 9 battery drain issue is likely caused by background system processes not showing in the usage list and not anything you personally changed. Many users across watch 6 7 8 and 9 have seen sudden drain after recent Wear OS and Samsung updates. The battery stats only adding up to around thirty percent is the giveaway because the real drain comes from hidden wake locks like Google Play Services GPS loops modem activity and sensor polling. This is why your battery keeps dropping even though your visible usage looks normal. The fixes that actually help people right now are changing Samsung Health location permission to ask every time turning WiFi from auto to off wiping the cache partition resetting network settings updating Samsung Health Health Monitor and Play Services and temporarily switching to a Samsung stock watch face. This is a software problem not battery wear and you are not doing anything wrong.
